Subgenus Cacoplistes s. str. Type species: Cachoplistus brunnerianus Saussure, 1877 As per literature, the nominotypic subgenus reportedly comprises three species including: Cacoplistes (Cacoplistes) brunneranius Saussure, 1877, Cacoplistes (Cacoplistes) indicus (Chopard, 1935), and Cacoplistes (Cacoplistes) proximus Gorochov, 2003. The type species was described on the basis of a single female being quite similar to the other two species. The morphological variations and differences in genitalic structure between the species Cacoplistes (Cacoplistes) indicus and Cacoplistes (Cacoplistes) proximus and likewise, the phenotypic plasticity notable with Cacoplistes (Cacoplistes) brunneranius have been described by Gorochov (2003).Published as part of Meena, Ashok Kumar, Swaminathan, Rajamani & Nagar, Rajendra, 2019, A new species of the cricket genus, Cacoplistes from Rajasthan, India (Orthoptera: Phalangopsidae: Cachoplistinae: Cachoplistini), pp. 479-486 in Zootaxa 4700 (4) on page 480, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.4700.4.6, http://zenodo.org/record/355761

    Meena Krishnamurthy and Political Emotions

    No full text
What are the roles that emotions play in politics and civic life? Do feelings like rage, happiness or tension get in the way of political progress, or are they important tools in the fight for social justice? On this episode of Examining Ethics, Christiane interviews Meena Krishnamurthy, a philosopher whose recent work explores the value of political emotions in Martin Luther King Jr.’s writing and activism

The case of Meena Raju Manch:A school-based gender intervention program in Maharashtra, India

    No full text
Abstract. The focus of this master’s thesis is a school-based gender intervention called Meena Raju Manch implemented from 2012 to 2015 in Maharashtra, Western India. Through the lens of gender theory from India as well as multiple approaches to gender norm change, this research aimed to find answers to two questions: How does the curriculum of Meena Raju Manch address traditional gender norms in the context of Maharashtra? How do the gender facilitators describe their experience(s) of using the Meena Raju Manch curriculum? The study followed a retrospective, single-case instrumental design as this intervention ended in 2015. The curriculum of Meena Raju Manch is the case which is being used as a medium to understand how the curriculum itself aims to address gender norms and what were the experiences of the gender facilitators who worked with the curriculum. The primary data sources comprised of document sources (curriculum of Meena Raju Manch in Marathi and English) as well as interviews with four gender facilitators. The data was analysed using Creswell and Poth’s (2017) data analysis spiral. The findings of the study suggest that Meena Raju Manch aims to challenge gender norms using a critical gender lens, but it lacks content related to intersectionality, sexuality and abuse. Gender facilitators who worked with Meena Raju Manch curriculum recalled using the curriculum to tackle certain gender norms. However, gender facilitators were faced with difficulties while trying to address deep-rooted patriarchal norms. Based on the analysis of curriculum and interview data from gender facilitators, Meena Raju Manch shows potential to challenge and change unequal gender norms in the Indian context. This research has broader implications such as how Sustainable Development Goal 5 is interpreted and implemented at the grassroots level, cultural sensitivity while addressing gender issues, sex education in India and finding intersectionality in even the seemingly homogeneous populations. In addition, this research aims to contribute to the research on gender done by the scholars in the Global South which is underrepresented in the field of gender and education

Use of simulation models to aid soil and water conservation actions for sustainable agro-forested systems

    No full text
Adequate planning of soil and water conservation requires understanding and prediction of the interactions between soil, climate and management scenarios. These interactions have been investigated over the last decades by means of modelling tools. Some of the most widely used models, namely KINEROS, WEPP, SWAT, and AnnAGNPS have been compared in terms of interfaces, processes, data and parameter requirements, to describe their application domain. Some applicative cases are also added to evidence the importance of rainfall regimes, processes scale, land typologies and management for soil and water conservation modelling, to support the needs of farmers, researchers, extension services and land planners. In general, there is evidence of a large number of parameters to satisfy common users' perception of reliability on simulation results, while they are all good teaching and research tools.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

This proceedings volume has the papers presented at the 30th annual conference on Foundations of Software Technology and Theoretical Computer Science (FSTTCS 2010), held at the Institute of Mathematical Sciences (IMSc), Chennai, during 15–18 December 2010. The conference attracted 128 submissions from 35 countries in 6 continents, most of them of very high quality. We thank the authors who submitted for making this such a competitive conference. The PC succeeded in obtaining the help of 216 external reviewers, in all producing 400 referee reports which were of immeasurable help in deciding the 38 contributed papers which have made it to this publication

Comparison of earthquake-triggered landslide inventories: A case study of the 2015 gorkha earthquake, Nepal

    No full text
Despite landslide inventories being compiled throughout the world every year at different scales, limited efforts have been made to critically compare them using various techniques or by different investigators. Event-based landslide inventories indicate the location, distribution, and detected boundaries of landslides caused by a single event, such as an earthquake or a rainstorm. Event-based landslide inventories are essential for landslide susceptibility mapping, hazard modeling, and further management of risk mitigation. In Nepal, there were several attempts to map landslides in detail after the Gorkha earthquake. Particularly after the main event on 25 April 2015, researchers around the world mapped the landslides induced by this earthquake. In this research, we compared four of these published inventories qualitatively and quantitatively using different techniques. Two principal methodologies, namely the cartographical degree of matching and frequency area distribution (FAD), were optimized and applied to evaluate inventory maps. We also showed the impact of using satellite imagery with different spatial resolutions on the landslide inventory generation by analyzing matches and mismatches between the inventories. The results of our work give an overview of the impact of methodology selection and outline the limitations and advantages of different remote sensing and mapping techniques for landslide inventorying

Escrituras que acorralan: Política, casta y religión en Touch, de Meena Kandasamy

    No full text
[EN]Meena Kandasamy‟s Touch (2006) subverts the limiting structures of power that control Indian public and private spheres through the political control and imposition of caste and religion. This chapter firstly describes the mechanisms of how power elites in India manipulate narra tions of the nation and it then presents counter discourses that denounce and aim at destabilising that control. Meena Kandasamy is afterwards presented as an Indian writer, poet and activist who challenges those interlocking systems of patriarchal, politi cal and religious control in India. How Kandasamy discovers and dismantles the patriarchal nature of these political and religious structures in her first poetry collection Touch becomes the subsequent subject matter
