Democracia, comunicação e negócio : o crescimento desmesurado da concentração económica

    No full text
In the present article, the author reviews the evolution of cultural and communication industries’ concentration. Such industries have reinforced their protagonism in the political, cultural and economic life of societies, particularly the most developed. The connection between democratic regimes and the media, established mainly since the 19th century in liberal countries (boasting, nevertheless, a more restricted democracy than current trends), is in crisis. Generally speaking, the growing commercialization of cultural, communicative and entertaining activities confront us, in actuality, with the issue of a possibly excessive protagonism on the part of macro or mega communicative and multimedia corporations which should somehow be controlled by democratic States. Although from a generalist perspective, the author draws on multiple examples from the Spanish situation as cases-in-point

This research examines the influence of Enuma Elish, a Babylonian creation myth, on the interpretation of Daniel 7:2-14. Enuma Elish, as an ancient mythological literary work, contains cosmological elements and symbolism that may have influenced the understanding of the symbols found in the Book of Daniel. Through textual and contextual analysis, this study explores the possible relationship between the narratives of Enuma Elish and Daniel 7:2-14. The purpose of this research is to understand the meaning of the symbol of the 'Son of Man' (a similarity between the two texts). This Son of Man has a similar vision in both Enuma Elish and Daniel 7:1-14, namely to destroy evil and restore the earth to its original state. The author uses the literature review method to determine the similarities and the extent of the influence of the Enuma Elish text on Daniel 7:1-14. Finally, the author explains the meaning of these similarities and differences, namely the hope in the Son of Man and Anshar.

Ethnic identity, political identity and ethnic conflict: simulating the effect of congruence between the two identities on ethnic violence and conflict

    No full text
This thesis outlines and presents an alternative hypothetical process to the emergence of ethnic conflict. Ethnic conflicts, rather than being dependent upon pre-existing 'ancient hatreds', are instead the result of a congruence between ethnic and political identity which grants individuals the ability to use ethnicity to identify and eliminate political threats. This hypothesis is formed by the examination of three case studies of ethnic conflict: Lebanon, Northern Ireland and Croatia. This hypothesis is then formalised and tested using an agent based simulation in which agent interactions are dependent upon ethnic and political identity and the congruence between the two. As predicted there was a strong positive correlation between how accurately ethnic identity reflected political identity and the level of ethnically motivated violence in the simulation, although the relationship was not linear. Furthermore the effect of a shift in congruence was found to be roughly comparable to the effect of initialising agents with a moderate level of pre-existing ethnic antagonism

    No full text
Indonesia faces multidimensional crises rooted in moral, mental, and spiritual degradation, as evidenced by high corruption levels (CPI 37/100), persistent poverty (8.57%), and significant social inequality (Gini ratio 0.379). This research examines the strategic role of theological education in achieving Indonesia\u27s 2045 vision through qualitative approaches that employ theological-critical analysis methods. Findings indicate that theological education can contribute to five main strategies: memorializing digital space as a constructive arena for social transformation, developing theological education as an integral laboratory for character formation, implementing development theology as an antithesis to oligarchy, institutionalizing transformation through sustainable educational ecosystems, and building strategic multi-stakeholder synergy. The research concludes that theological education has significant potential as an incubator for the next generation of leaders capable of driving social transformation toward a just, dignified, and sustainable Indonesia by 2045.

    The resurrection of the author

    No full text
81 leaves ; 29 cmIncludes abstract.Includes bibliographical references (leaves 76-81).In The Resurrection of the Author, Daniel Trainor-McKinnon supports a form of intentionalism by arguing that intentions and meaning are metaphysically separate from artworks. This form of intentionalism is what he calls externalist intentionalism, which is the theory of art interpretation that holds that intentions are often relevant (though not always necessary) to understanding artworks. Because it holds this, externalist intentionalism is an adequate response to both the anti-intentionalist objection that artists' intentions are inadmissible in critical examinations of artworks because they are external to those artworks, and the neo-Wittgensteinian intentionalist claim that intentions are internal properties of artworks. A consequent study of allusion shows that some features of art are dependent on intentions for their existence and correct interpretation, while a concluding section examines externalist intentionalism's compatibility with evaluative criticism
