No full textTranscript (42 pages) of an interview by Winston Erickson with Roland D. Mower on June 28, 2002. From tape numbers 458 and 459 in the "Saving the Legacy" Oral History ProjectMower (b. 1928) recalls his childhood in rural Utah. He received his initial military training from the Utah State Guard, which he joined at the age of fourteen. In 1994, at the age of sixteen, he joined the U.S. Navy, with his parents\u27 permission. He served in the North Pacific and the Aleutian Islands before being sent to Japan. He participated in "Operation Magic Carpet," in which his ship picked up Marines from Iwo Jima and took them back to the states. His ship was also involved in "Operation Crossroads," a test of the nuclear bomb in the Bikini Islands. He was discharged in 1948 at the age of nineteen. He later joined the Air Force and served in Vietnam. Interviewed by Winston Ericson. 42 pages

He speaks highly of his former professor and Appalachian author, that "he's not whipped 26 he'll go on to the end-fighting all the way." Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
