    No full text
In this article we want to offer a distinct panorama, including the Panamanian philosopher Ricaurte Soler and understanding the philosophy of liberation as a broad and heterogeneous movement; but also as a school of philosophical thought with a transformative political commitment. Throughout its own historical development it becomes immanent. It is a timely philosophical movement because it has something to say in these times of war and pandemic, where the affirmation of life becomes the articulating principle for liberating praxis.

A Retrospective Analysis of 10-Year Authorship Trends in Biomedical Engineering Journals

    No full text
Studies have indicated that academic research has become increasingly complex and multidisciplinary. There seems to be an increasing trend of multiple author articles published across most journals. As the field of biomedical engineering also encompasses multidisciplinary-based knowledge, it is interesting to understand the authorship trend over time. In this study, six journals were carefully chosen from the Journal Citation Report of the Thomson Scientific based on predefined criteria (year 1999 to 2008). The data pertaining to authorships for the articles published in these journals were then acquired from the PubMed database. The results show that there is a general upward trend for the number of author per article, but it is not significant (p > .01) despite a 64.5% increase in the total number of article published in the six chosen journals. Thus, the expected increase is not observed in this field, and it may be due to the stringent guidelines by journals in defining the contributions of an author. Particularly, contributing factors like the impact of authorship irregularities is discussed herein

Analysis of the behavior of three digital elevation model correction methods on critical natural scenarios

AbstractStudy regionThe methods explored in this study were tested in two study areas: Italy and Cuba.Study focusVirtually all Digital Elevation Models (DEM) contain flat areas or depression pixels that may be artifacts or actual landscape representations. These features must be removed before any further hydrological application can proceed. Diverse algorithms have been developed for the purpose of correcting these aspects, differing in how they handle the nature of the depressions, as well as the adopted mathematical procedures. In the present work, the behavior of a standard (Fill) and two advanced (TOPAZ and PEM4PIT) DEM correction methods on three critical natural scenarios is analyzed. Extensive flat areas, abrupt slope changes and large depressions − expressed in terms of: (1) geomorphological changes (elevation, affected area and slope); (2) flow velocity; (3) river network and width functions (WF) − are affected.New hydrological insights for the regionResults confirm improved performance of the advanced methods over the standard method for each case study in Italy and Cuba. The analyzed parameters also show that correction processes are strongly influenced by the relief, the size of the predominating depressions and the neighbouring depressions. There is no one method among those compared which works optimally for every type of correction, and given that the majority of basins have diverse topographical conditions, a different approach to the corrections process and its computational procedures is likely needed

This paper is about to criticize the Pentecostal theology about the healing. The theology believe that the miracle of healing can happen because Jesus died on the cross. He was able to heal all sicknesses and to free people from the shackles of the devil. Furthermore, the concept of God is a good God also used to refer to the belief that God has a strong desire to heal. But in reality, many Christians experience sickness is not healed. So the doctrine of the Pentecostal healing actually makes conflicted for people who have never experienced the healing of sickness, although he has been obedient and trust in the Lord. The author tries to reconstruct the Pentecostal theology of healing that could accommodate such a struggle. At the end of writing the author makes a conclusion that in sickness and suffering severe, the work of the Holy Spirit as the agent of transformative Suffering can not be separated from his work as the agent of the transformative life. The Holy Spirit as the agent of transformative Suffering can wear sickness and suffering experienced by believers to proclaim the work of his reform, which is a new birth. The new birth here interpreted as the transformation of the Holy Spirit in their lives so that their lives can sincerely declare lives according to the values of the Kingdom of God which contains joy, faithfulness, patience, love, truth, peace. These values are stronger than mere physical healing function experienced by a person

Allah sebagai Parsonduk: Perempuan Pemimpin dalam Konteks Gereja Kristen Protestan Simalungun dan Masyarakat Simalungun

This paper discusses a constructive theology by exploring the theme of Parsonduk in the context of Gereja Kristen Protestan Simalungun and its culture. The author uses feminist perspective to give a new meaning of Parsonduk. The original meaning of Parsonduk is a woman who feeds or spoonfeeds her family. The women in Simalungun‟s culture prepare the need of food for their families daily. Actually, this task is judged as the domestic work in the patriachal society. The task as Parsonduk is to serve the members of family such as husband and children. This paper recontructs theologically the meaning of Parsonduk by comparing the work fo God as the helper of Israel. The aim is to emphasize the important task of women at Simalungun‟s culture and to appreciate their role in the light of egaliterian perspective. Both men and women deserve to have the same opportunity to be leader in the church and society
