    Kajian ini bertujuan untuk melihat pendidikan yang diberikan kepada kanak-kanak cacat pendengaran di Sekolah Orang-Orang Pekak Selangor (SSD). Pendidikan penting dalam membina dan memajukan seseorang individu. Ia perlu diterima oleh setiap kanak-kanak tidak kira normal atau cacat. Pendidikan kanak-kanak cacat walaupun serupa dengan pendidikan kanak-kanak lain tetapi masih terdapat perbezaan yang memerlukan perhatian kepada masalah kekurangan mereka. Dalam kajian ini, pengkaji hanya melihat pendidikan yang diberikan tanpa mendalami proses pendidikan itu dijalankan. Bab I menerangkan langkah-langkah yang dilakuka dalam membuat penyelidikan. Bab II pula menerangkan keadaan kanak-kanak pekak serta sebab-sebab kecacatan ini. Di sini juga dilihat sedikit sejarah SSD yang menjadi lokasi kajian serta menerangkan peringkat persekolahan yang disediakan di sini. Bab III, kurikulum dan kegiatan ko-kurikulum dihuraikan. Seperti juga sekolah biasa, SSD memberikan bidang pelajaran KBSR dan KBSM. Untuk memenuhi keperluan kanak-kanak ini, satu kurikulum khas disediakan. Sebagai perlaksanaan pendidikan, bab ini menulis tentang kaedah dan teknik dalam proses pengajaran-pembelajaran. Di samping itu, disentuh juga tentang peperiksaan sebagai proses penilaian terhadap apa yang telah dipelajari dari kurikulum tersebut. Bab IV menerangkan faktor-faktor sosial yang mempengaruhi pencapaian persekolahan kanak-kanak. Tidak dinafikan, untuk mencapai sesuatu, kita perlu ada usaha dan sokongan. Oleh itu, keadaan sosial yang dibincangkan boleh menentukan ke atah mana pencapaian itu. Bab V pula menyentuh mengenai masalah yang dihadapi oleh kanak-kanak dan pihak sekolah. Masalah-masalah ini sekiranya tidak di atasi akan menjejaskan prestasi kanak-kanak dan sekolah. Cara-cara mengatasi masalah juga disertakan. Bab VI merupakan bab akhir. Seluruh penulisan ditamatkan dalam bab ini. Di samping itu, beberapa cadangan dikemukakan kepada oihak ibu bapa, sekolah dan masyarakat supaya dapat meninggikan tahap pencapaian kanak-kanak dalam pendidikan

    Akademi Pengajian Bahasa, UiTM Shah Alam telah mengadakan Program Jelajah Akademik ke kampus-kampus cawangan. Program Jelajah Akademik ini melibatkan semua negeri di seluruh Malaysia termasuk Sabah & Sarawak. Pihak APB telah mengadakan lawatan ke UiTM Cawangan Negeri Sembilan bagi mencapai beberapa objektif penting yang melibatkan pengurusan akademik, pengajaran dan pembelajaran serta perancangan di antara APB Negeri Sembilan dan APB Shah Alam

    Metacognition serves as an indicator of successful learning. Various researches have proven the association between academic success and also metacognition. This quantitative study attempted to investigate the Novice ESL Instructors Metacognitive Awareness in Teaching English. Besides that, this study aimed to identify the preferred aspect in both metacognitive knowledge and metacognitive regulation used by the instructors in teaching. Lastly, this study aimed to find if the significant relationship between the novice ESL instructors’ years of teaching with their metacognitive awareness in knowledge and regulation in teaching English. Novice instructors that are able to measure their awareness in teaching will have better control in the learning process. It will help them to know their strengths and weaknesses in teaching. It is found that novice ESL Instructors faced problems in teaching English due to lack of experience. Thus, it demotivates them and somehow affects their teaching performance. The Metacognitive Awareness Inventory for Teachers (MAIT) measures two aspects in metacognition; metacognitive knowledge and metacognitive regulation were administered to 100 novice ESL instructors from different types of educational institution in Malaysia. The data was then processed using the Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS) for Window version 20.0. The results supported the objective of this study that English instructors who are aware of their teaching process will have a better control in the learning process. Besides that, the result also found that there is no significant relationship between the respondents’ teaching experience and their metacognitive awareness in teaching. It is hoped that this study will provide better understanding in the study of metacognition that will improve the instructors’ belief in teaching and their also their teaching skills. In conclusion, English instructors with high metacognition in teaching can help to provide a better English learning environment to the students as well as improving their own pedagogical development

    Childhood obesity among primary school students in Shah Alam / Noor Rodhiah Abd Rahman

    Childhood obesity is a growing health problem among children, locally and internationally. This study was done to determine the prevalence of overweight and obesity among children in Shah Alam and to identify the risk factors probably associated with childhood obesity. A study instrument consisting of questionnaires was constructed based on previous literature done by the San Jose Mercury News/Kaiser Family Foundation and was modified to suit the situation in Shah Alam. 1062 questionnaires were distributed to the students of two primary schools in Shah Alam, Sekolah Kebangsaan Seksyen 7 and Sekolah Kebangsaan Seksyen 9, to be answered by their parents. These questionnaires contained questions regarding the lifestyle of the children in terms of their dietary intake and physical activity, their parents' perceptions on childhood obesity and height and weight of the children to determine their Body Mass Index (BMI). The prevalence of overweight and obesity among children is 13.02% and 14.05%, respectively. Risk factors associated with overweight and obesity in children are found to be non-significant. As a conclusion, the high prevalence of both overweight and obesity among children in Shah Alam prompt further and more accurate study to be done to identify the risk factors truly associated with childhood obesity

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
