Type status and taxonomic accounts for Ambiserrula jugosa (McCulloch 1914) and Inegocia harrisii (McCulloch 1914) (Scorpaeniformes: Platycephalidae)
Platycephalids Ambiserrula jugosa (McCulloch 1914) and Inegocia harrisii (McCulloch 1914) were described as new species based on 10 and 2 specimens, respectively, collected from the coast of Queensland, Australia by the F.I.S. Endeavour in 1910. McCulloch (1914) listed additional specimens at the end of the description, which he did not exclude from the type series. Previous authors considered the specimens, which McCulloch stated the species to have been described from, to be types of the two species, it was revealed that all 43 and 9 specimens included in these species by McCulloch are type specimens, according to the fourth edition of International Code of Zoological Nomenclature, stating "type series of a nominal taxon consists of all the specimens included by the author in the new nominal taxon" in Article 72.4.1. In I. harrisii, it was assumed that a specimen later designated as the lectotype was figured with the original description. Because its plate legend includes the words "sp. nov. Type", the specimen is regarded to be the holotype of the species and the designation of the lectotype was unnecessary. This study newly recognizes additional 12 paratypes of A. jugosa and 5 paratypes of I. harrisii, and gives taxonomic accounts of the two species to show range extensions of intraspecific variation and distribution newly found. Also comments are given about the type status of other species taken by the Endeavour described by McCulloch in a series of five papers

""Counting Your Customers" One by One: A Hierarchical Bayes Extension to the Pareto/NBD Model"
This research extends a Pareto/NBD model of customer-base analysis using a hierarchical Bayesian (HB) framework to suit today's customized marketing. The proposed HB model presumes three tried and tested assumptions of Pareto/NBD models: (1) a Poisson purchase process, (2) a memoryless dropout process (i.e., constant hazard rate), and (3) heterogeneity across customers, while relaxing the independence assumption of the purchase and dropout rates and incorporating customer characteristics as covariates. The model also provides useful output for CRM, such as a customer-specific lifetime and survival rate, as by-products of the MCMC estimation. Using three different types of databases --- music CD for e-commerce, FSP data for a department store and a music CD chain, the HB model is compared against the benchmark Pareto/NBD model. The study demonstrates that recency-frequency data, in conjunction with customer behavior and characteristics, can provide important insights into direct marketing issues, such as the demographic profile of best customers and whether long-life customers spend more.

The study looked at ways to support and enhance this revitalization by developing a vision for the Corridor that balances the City’s Main Street Uptown District goals with the need to accommodate future travel demand along each road in the Corridor
Taking stock of open access : progress and issues
Purpose - Aims at providing a broad overview of some of the issues emerging from the growth in open access publishing, with specific reference to the use of repositories and open access journals. Design/methodology/approach - A paper largely based on specific experience with institutional repositories and the internationally run E-library and information science (LIS) archive. Findings - The open access initiative is dramatically transforming the process of scholarly communication bringing great benefits to the academic world with an, as yet, uncertain outcome for commercial publishers. Practical implications - Outlines the benefits of the open access movement with reference to repositories and open access journals to authors and readers alike and gives some food for thought on potential barriers to the complete permeation of the open access model, such as copyright restrictions and version control issues. Some illustrative examples of country-specific initiatives and the international E-LIS venture are given. Originality/value - An attempt to introduce general theories and practical implications of the open access movement to those largely unfamiliar with the movement
Marine diterpene glycosides
Marine diterpene glycosides (MDGs) respresent a small but highly significant group of the much larger class of marine diterpenes. The three well-studied examples of MDGs are eleutherobins, pseudopterosins and fuscosides, all of which exhibit extremely promising biological activity. The eleutherobins are potent anti-mitotic agents, and the pseudopterosins and fuscosides are potent anti-inflammatory agents. "Customer Lifetime Value and RFM Data: Accounting Your Customers: One by One"
A customer behavior model that permits the estimation of customer lifetime value (CLV) from standard RFM data in "non-contractual" setting is developed by extending the hierarchical Bayes (HB) framework of the Pareto/NBD model (Abe 2008). The model relates customer characteristics to frequency, dropout and spending behavior, which, in turn, is linked to CLV to provide useful insight into acquisition. The proposed model (1) relaxes the assumption of independently distributed parameters for frequency, dropout and spending processes across customers, (2) accommodates the inclusion of covariates through hierarchical modeling, (3) allows easy estimation of latent variables at the individual level, which could be useful for CRM, and (4) provides the correct measure of errors. Using FSP data from a department store and a CD chain, the HB model is shown to perform well on calibration and holdout samples both at the aggregate and disaggregate levels in comparison with the benchmark Pareto/NBD-based model. Several substantive issues are uncovered. First, both of our datasets exhibit correlation between frequency and spending parameters, violating the assumption of the existing Pareto/NBD-based CLV models. Direction of the correlation is found to be data dependent. Second, useful insight into acquisition is gained by decomposing the effect of change in covariates on CLV into three components: frequency, dropout and spending. The three components can exert influences in opposite directions, thereby canceling each other to produce less effect as the total on CLV. Third, not accounting for uncertainty in parameter estimate can cause large bias in measures, such as CLV and elasticity. Its ignorance can potentially have a serious consequence on managerial decision making.
One-pot syntheses of pseudopteroxazoles from pseudopterosins : a rapid route to non-natural congeners with improved antimicrobial activity
Rapid one-pot methodologies to prepare pseudopteroxazole (1) and novel congeners from abundant natural pseudopterosins have been devised. This is highlighted here with the first synthesis of the marine natural product homopseudopteroxazole (2) utilizing a novel, silver(I)-mediated catechol to benzoxazole transformation. Pseudopteroxazoles and isopseudopteroxazoles exhibit potent activity against a range of important Gram-positive pathogens including Mycobacterium spp. and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium. Several non-natural pseudopteroxazoles exhibited strong activity against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, thereby displaying a broader spectrum of antibiotic activity compared to pseudopteroxazole
