Unjust Justice: An Exploration of the Case of Rizana Nafeeq with Reference to Kalaivaathy Kaleel’s Rizana
An innocent young girl of seventeen, named Rizana Nafeek, was mercilessly executed in Saudi Arabia on charges of having killed a baby boy. Rizana Nafeek’s name has become synonymous with migrant women domestic worker’s rights, miserable condition in homeland and inhumane treatment in foreign land. Her fatal fate drew worldwide denunciation and a deluge of sympathy globally - beyond nationality, race and religion. The loss of a cherished blameless life and the lack of respect for migrant women stirs the humanity of the author, Kalaivathy Kaleel from Sri Lanka to vent his feelings through the short story Rizana, published in Words Without Borders to voice against human trafficking, the failure of Sri Lankan government to secure the legal rights of its nationals abroad and against the general exploitation of women. The work has been translated to English by Kailayar Sellanainar Sivakumaran in order to prevent another incident such as Rizana’s to occur due to ignorance or inactivity. The author stresses the need to uphold the rights of any woman and ensure her safety in her own land as well as in foreign lands through the words of a character named Raazik.

Fathumma Rizana Shiraz: Food Safety through "Green Fungicide"
Food safety has been intensively challenged by plant fungal pathogens worldwide and Botrytis cinerea which causes ‘Botrytis Bunch Rot’ (Gray mould rot) in fresh horticultural crops, has impacted economically on more than 1400 cultivated plant species1. It has caused crop yield losses 100 billion globally2. New Zealand wine industry has been threatened highly by Botrytis pathogen and direct crop losses are around NZ1500/ha3. As concerns on food safety and emerging resistant types due to chemical fungicides, safer alternatives have been tried by industry and researchers. But they do not effectively control the pathogen as same as chemical fungicides. In this research antimicrobial peptide which is a natural defence mechanism of some living cells, has been evaluated against Botrytis. Antimicrobial peptide analogues were synthesised using Solid Phase Peptide Synthesis and purified. Bioassay was conducted for Battacin analogue-7 Octapeptide as well as PAF34 hexapeptide on mycelial growth and spore germination of the pathogen. One copy and three copies of Battacin analogues were totally effective at 3µM/mL while two copies of PAF34 were effective at 6µM/mL. Battacin analogues antimicrobial peptides can be utilized to control Botrytis pathogen effectively and to protect harvest of grapes. This poster was uploaded for the SGS Research Showcase 2021.Choose your favourite poster to win the People's Choice Award at the 2021 SGS Research Showcase: https://auckland.au1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9Fw8Omf43pstYU

Fathumma Rizana Shiraz: Green fungidide to combat wine pathogen
Grey mould disease by Botrytis cinerea causes extensive yield losses in 1400 crop plants and yield, results in huge economic loss in agricultural and horticultural industry worldwide. As chemical fungicides have threatened food safety and caused escalation of resistance of pathogen, this research is on evaluation of peptides against Botrytis. This poster was uploaded for the SGS Research Showcase 2022.

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
