Abstract : Intending to delineate the way the Italian writer Alessandro Baricco has been inserted in the Brazilian literary system and the paths his translated books have followed, this thesis gives voice to the translating experiences of his translators. Baricco's insertion in Brazil began in 1997, through a personal project of Dr. Roberta Barni, with her translation of Oceano Mare. Since then, seven other of his works have been published in Brazil, three of which were translated by Roberta Barni and the other four by four different translators. On the one hand, the translator is considered as the main figure in mediation betweencultures and, on the other, this figure's reality is analyzed within theliterary system: its invisibility, its limits and its professional practice. Criticisms and reviews of this Italian author published in well established Brazilian newspapers are also considered, with the understanding that they are part of Baricco's image reflected here

Can 3D Exoscopy-Assisted Surgery Replace the Traditional Endoscopy in Septoplasty? Analysis of Our Two-Year Experience

    No full text
Background/Objectives: Septoplasty is a commonly performed surgical procedure aimed at correcting nasal septal deviations, to improve nasal airflow and respiratory function. Traditional approaches to septal correction rely on either direct visualization or endoscopic guidance. Recently, a novel technology known as exoscopy has been introduced into surgical practice. Exoscopy is an “advanced magnification system” that provides an enlarged, three-dimensional view of the operating field. In this article, we present our experience with exoscope-assisted septoplasty, developed over the last two years, and compare it with our extensive experience using the endoscopic approach. Methods: Our case series includes 26 patients, predominantly males and young adults, who underwent exoscope-assisted septoplasty. We discuss the primary advantages of this technique and, most importantly, provide an analysis of its learning curve. The cohort of patients treated using the exoscopic approach was compared with a control group of 26 patients who underwent endoscope-guided septoplasty, randomly selected from our broader clinical database. Finally, we present a representative surgical case that details all phases of the exoscope-assisted procedure. Results: Our surgical experience has demonstrated that exoscopy is a safe and effective tool for performing septoplasty. Moreover, the learning curve associated with this technique exhibits a rapid and progressive improvement. Notably, exoscopy provides a substantial educational benefit for trainees and medical students, as it enables them to share the same visual perspective as the lead surgeon. Conclusions: Although further studies are required to validate this approach, we believe that exoscopy represents a promising advancement for a wide range of head and neck procedures, and certainly for septoplasty

Abstract: The work Occhiale was published in Italy, in 1625, questioning the poetic assumptions made by Giambattista Marino in his epic poem Adone. Its publication led to the creation of numerous other works that, on the one hand, firmly defend the writings of the great Neapolitan poet and, on the other, focus their critical analyses - at times laden with irony - on Tommaso Stigliani’s epopee, Mondo Nuovo, the very same author of the controversial Occhiale. Our study specifically analyses the works of Alessandro Tassoni and Angelico Aprosio, which are probably the most scholarly writings on the critical examination of Stigliani’s poem

Objective: Compare the risks of cholecystectomy between patients with and without kidney transplant. Method: This is a retrospective observational study through the collection of data from patients’ medical records submitted to cholecystectomy from January 2004 to December 2018, at Hospital do Rim / UNIFESP. Results: 230 kidney transplanted recipients (57,2%) and 172 controls (42,8%) were included in the study for a total of 402 cholelithiasis patients. The transplanted group presented higher rates of surgical conversion (5,7% x 1,2%), drainage (7,8% x 2,3%), postoperative complications (10,0% x 4,7%) and longer hospitalizations stay (p<0,05). When the analysis was performed according to surgery’s type (urgent x elective), the urgently transplanted group had higher rates of postoperative complications (27,8% x 5,9%), deaths (11,1% x 0%), conversion (13,9% x 5,9%), drainage (33,3% x 23,5%) and length of hospital stay (p<0,05). Multiple logistic regression revealed that the renal transplant patients presented an increased risk of choledococholithiasis (OR: 5,89) and pancreatitis (OR: 6,89). The presence of diabetes mellitus was an isolated factor for postoperative complications (OR: 3,80), and there was an 82% increase in the risk of presenting postoperative complications at each point of increased creatinine levels. Conclusion: Renal transplant patients on elective surgery were similar to the control group with the same rates of postoperative complications. However, when operated urgently, they had longer surgery time and hospitalization as well as increase in complications. Renal transplant patients had a higher risk of developing pancreatitis and choledocholitiasis.

The construction of the tragedy in Italy, has been in Vittorio Alfieri one of its greatest representatives, while Alfieri had in the tragedy one of its greatest imitators: Alessandro Pepoli, who watched the literary corpus of the author of Asti as a model to follow, ever including the creation of a new genre. The historical novel has been in vogue for several decades in Mexico and a number of authors have studied the origins of the genre. However, the scope of this article is far more vast than most analysis and can properly be called paneuropean because it includes Great Britain, France, Italy and Spain. The author is in the process of writing a book on the subject and displays a wide knowledge of Walter Scott’s invention. The approach is both historical and literary and therefore very rich; the result is a canvas of great dimensions and, at the same time, an account of particular biographical details and passages of notable significance. Lukács is generally regarded as a classic author on the subject of the historical novel; this article invites the reader to consider his limitations.</p

Unstable sustention: intertextuality in Alessandro Baricco

This thesis proposes a survey of the main forces determining the constitution of the Poetics that guide the trajectory of the contemporary Italian writer Alessandro Baricco, as a novelist, an essayist and a sagacious intellectual in our century. We note that, from the corpus of novels and essays chosen to analyze here, the author emphasizes the instability of narrating and perceiving, reflected clearly in the various intertextual dialogues that he creates. Therefore the intertextuality, as one of his fictional procedures conceived and transfigured by the author, is closely linked to a conception of the world that promotes the removal of certainties, the praise of orality and narrative (inexhaustible sources of life) the multiplicity of points of view, the exaltation of the marginalized characters, the heroism of defeat, the emphasis of the fall and the resignation. In order to demonstrate how it works, our study guides are basically from the following topics: a) the genesis of intertextuality in Baricco b) the intertextual relations and possible approaches between some of his works as well as dialogues with other authors (such as Herman Melville, Joseph Conrad, Rainer Maria Rilke, José Saramago and Paul Auster), c) the post-modern tendency, emphasized mainly on his essays
