Innovazione nell’analisi urbana per l’emergenza sismica - Innovation in analysing urban seismic emergency” (capitolo 4)
After a seismic event, every installation undergoes physical and functional damage, threatening many urban functions present, yet it retains certain features that becomes fundamental in confronting the emergency.
These strategic functions may have been provided by a program of targeted measures, but sometimes they are inherent in the urban fabric that, over time, has become characterized by open spaces (squares, parks, gardens, car parks, etc.), wide streets, even buildings (historical or new) that are structurally capable of withstanding earthquakes and that can become strategic points of service in the emergency.
In analysing free spaces, connections or the structures created for emergency management, one also generally accounts for the system interconnection among emergency facilities and the accessibility to the local context.
The goal of planning an intervention system in anticipation of seismic events or the reconstruction process in the event of disasters must concern the reorganization of urban systems and the referred building, which should be considered in restoring both access systems to urban areas as well as those linked within the urban fabric, while the other side has to take care of reassembling functional, formal, infrastructural and structural buildings damaged and the possible interference with public spaces, in accordance with the urban system and construction and with the close relationship between the environment and urban landscape

On this basis, we decided to test in vitro whether a set of rescuing/reparative events previously observed by us in subjects treated with radioelectric asymmetric conveyor (REAC) technology may also involve antagonism of a marker of aging-related degenerative processes, as assessed by a reduction in beta-galactosidase at the cellular level. Methods: Human adipose-derived stem cells were cultured at different passages, ranging from 5 to 20, with or without REAC exposure for 12 hours. The cells were then processed for biochemical beta-galactosidase staining and morphological microscopy analysis. Results: We observed a significant reduction in expression of senescence associated-beta-galactosidase, and a persistence of fibroblast-like morphology typical of human adipose-derived stem cells, even at late passages. Conclusion: Our results indicate the ability of REAC technology to counteract in vitro senescence of human adipose-derived stem cells, and prompt the hypothesis that such technology may be exploited to antagonize in vivo senescence of tissue-resident or transplanted stem cells playing an important role in clinical treatment of age-related processes. Keywords: aging, adipose-derived stem cells, neurodegenerative disease
A scientific approach to the characterisation of the painting technique of an author : the case of Raffaele Rinaldi
During the last restoration of the six paintings by Raffaele Rinaldi (1851-1916), located in the church of Maria SS. Annunziata (Marano Principato, Cosenza, Italy), made between 1890 and 1903, several scientific investigations were carried out on them. The present work aims at classifying the painting in terms of its materials and technical particularities. The goal of this study was to characterise the painting technique of the painter, its evolution and possible additions made during previous restorations. Pigments, binder media and raw materials used for the application of the ground and the paint layers were studied using electronic microscopy equipped with energy dispersive spectroscopy qualitative microanalysis (SEM-EDS), infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Furthermore, a complete analysis of the state of preservation of these paintings represents a scientific aid and guide for its restoration, taking into account the severe damage not exclusively due to natural decay processes. Our data can provide information about historical and stylistic background as well as advise for correct planning of the cleaning procedures. The identification of materials allowed a correct restoration
Mario Zaffagnini Architetto e Docente
G.Trippa, A. Acocella, G. Giallocosta, C. C. Buccolieri, A. Manfredini, N. Marzot, P. Davoli, M. Toni, A. Gaiani e M. Balzani.

Offline INP measurements at Ny-Ålesund (Svalbard) in 2018
This dataset reports atmospheric ice nucleating particle (INP) concentrations, measured offline on samples collected at ground level in Ny-Ålesund (Svalbard; 78°55’ N, 11°56’ E), in spring and summer 2018. The ice nucleation properties of the samples were characterized by means of two offline instruments: the Dynamic Filter Processing Chamber (DFPC), detecting condensation freezing INPs, and the West Texas Cryogenic Refrigerator Applied to Freezing Test system (WT-CRAFT), measuring INPs by immersion freezing. Sampling for DFPC occurred on a campaign basis (one in spring and one in summer) with daily resolution and sampling time of about four hours, while filters for WT-CRAFT were collected continuously from April to August, with four days sampling intervals. Meteorological data from 15 April to 15 August 2018 are also reported. Meteorological parameters were taken from the Amundsen-Nobile Climate Change Tower, positioned less than 1 Km N-E of the sampling point.
This dataset is discussed in a manuscript titled “Condensation and immersion freezing Ice Nucleating Particle measurements at Ny-Ålesund (Svalbard) during 2018: evidence of multiple source contribution” by M. Rinaldi et al., which is currently under review for Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics
Industrial Policy and Artisan Firms (1930s-1970s)
This essay shows that after WW2 the Italian state carried out a policy for artisanship (that is, for the smallest firms) of an extent that was unparalleled in Europe. This policy was based on the provision, on the one hand, of lower taxes and and employers' contributions as well as welfare benefits at reduced premiums and, on the other hand, of 'substitutive factors': soft loans, srevices and promotional initiative by state agencies. Such a policy for artisanship played a twofold role: partly 'defensive', protecting a segment of marginal firms, and partly 'proactive', prompting modernisation and innovation of more promising firms. The latter were clustered especially in the industrial districts of the centre and north-east of the country, whose development turned out to be boosted to a significant extent by state intervention
M&A vs Organic Growth: Growth Strategies in the Eyewear Sector
This paper examines growth strategies in the eyewear sector, focusing on the comparison between organic growth and M&A strategies. After a description of the company Safilo Spa and an analysis of the competitive context using the 5 forces model by Michael Porter, the internship experience at this organization, in the Finance & Accounting area, is presented. Subsequently, the theoretical and empirical debate on the benefits and risks associated with different growth paths is analyzed. Organic growth offers greater stability and control, but can limit the speed of expansion and innovation; on the contrary, M&A allows rapid access to new skills and markets, although it involves high integration risks. Through the cases of two acquisitions of brands, such as Blenders Eyewear and Privè Revaux by Safilo, the opportunities and critical issues of extraordinary operations are highlighted. The paper shows how Safilo, adopting a free approach, has tried to balance the solidity deriving from its brands with the innovation offered by targeted acquisitions. Furthermore, the comparison with other cases in the sector, such as the merger between Essilor and Luxottica, in addition to the acquisitions of Kering Eyewear, confirms that there is no single effective strategy, but that the choice depends on the resources that an organization has at its disposal
