Art and Utopia in Herbert Marcuse
This thesis intends to follow the development of the relationship between art and utopia in the work of Herbert Marcuse. Therefore, it is necessary to understand how the author develops the relationship between sensibility and social change in his aesthetic-political writings. It is also important to dialogue with the traditional and contemporary authors of the philosophy, such as Schiller, Mannheim, Bloch and the circle of critical theory of which Marcuse was a part. Considering that Marcuse does not treat the theme of utopia in a consistent manner across his work, but that it is always related to the role of art of negating the status quo, and based on the historical context in which his texts were written, the contributions and limitations of the marcusean aesthetic theory to the contemporary philosophical debate are discussed, as well as the possibility of calling it utopian. Marcuse, as a critic of orthodox Marxism, revisits proposals debated by utopian socialists such as Fourier and, like Bloch, he is responsible for recovering the importance of the issue of sensibility in the socialist discourse. Bringing the debate of sensibility into the political discourse is one of Marcuse\'s great legacies
Crisis and freedom: a study on the forms of political representation in Hegel's philosophy
In order to do so, we will first investigate the critiques that the author undertakes of two misguided models of freedom, on which, respectively, two models of representation are built, and which he diagnoses as problematic: the first, associated with the indeterminate character of the will and embodied by the absolute freedom of the Jacobins; the second, rooted in the determined character of the will, selfishly oriented and materialized in the individual, secret and periodic vote. The analysis of these critiques should show us that when these models are absolutized by the actors of social life as guides for political action, they lead to crises caused by a strong contradiction between freedom and institutions. Having accomplished the first goal, we will then investigate, still measured by the criterion of political representation, the way in which a rational model of freedom can work at the center of the Hegelian political architecture, conjugating, at the same time, social and political freedom, or if we wish, particular and universal interests. The conceptual analysis of this model, based on the corporative institutions of civil society, will constitute our second goal, in which we will examine its assumptions, justifications and diagnoses. At this stage, therefore, we will analyze the Hegelian conception of a representative structure of interests implemented through corporation
Rahel Jaeggi\'s immanent critique: between a pragmatic ontology and the dialectics of history
This research is motivated by the interest in understanding the foundation of the new model of normative critique elaborated by Rahel Jaeggi in her book Critique of Life Forms [Kritik von Lebensformen]. Since Jürgen Habermas, thinkers in the field of critical theory have been concerned with identifying normative criteria for the realisation of social critique, and they have all sought to take up the philosophies of their predecessors and deepen, unfold or refute their ideas. Thus, according to these criteria, Jaeggi takes up the concept of immanent critique widely used since the beginning of the so-called Frankfurt School and develops it in her own way, this time making use of a social ontology based on the concept of life forms. In order to delineate the conceptual structure of her concept of immanent critique, we seek to make explicit what the author\'s aim is in developing a new kind of critique and with what tools she approaches it. In the beginning, we turn to the object of social criticism for Jaeggi: the forms of life. Thus, we seek to show how this object is configured ontologically and how it can be said that it is an instance of normativity. After this first delimitation of the object of critique, we justify our reading of the concept of immanent critique from the idea of crisis, which we believe is essential for understanding Jaeggi\'s immanent critique. After this step, we seek to understand how that social ontology owes its structure and development to a dialectical movement and, finally, we explain how the identification of this dialectical movement gives rise to a model of critique aimed at social crisis. Thus, we believe it is possible to identify in that way the main elements of Jaeggi\'s concept of immanent criticism

MAKNA DAN INTERAKSIONALISME SIMBOLIK DALAM TRADISI GENDUREN DI BLITAR JAWA TIMUR: (STUDI LIVING HADIS)
Currently, more and more people believe in the power of the environment and nature, including the sun, the mountain atmosphere, and ancestral spirits. The purpose of this study is to examine the values, symbolic meanings, history, and implementation process of the Genduren tradition. Examining the relationship between the concept of living traditions and the social and spiritual benefits felt by the community from customs is also another objective of this study. This research uses qualitative and ethnographic methodologies.
George Herbert Mead refers to symbolic interactionism as social interaction facilitated by symbols. The meaning of symbols can shape social interaction. An example of symbolic interactionism theory in everyday life is when a waiter sells various items in a store. Blitar, East Java, illustrates how symbols represent certain values that are highly valued by the community. In addition, this interaction leads to new habits or habits that are carried out regularly with the same purpose. The author concludes the research problem formulation by observing passive participation and asking for opinions from several informants who deeply understand the genduren tradition.

From Feast to Famine: A Tale of Satiety and Hunger Hormones
The general metadata -- e.g., title, author, abstract, subject headings, etc. -- is publicly available, but access to the submitted files is restricted to UT Southwestern campus access and/or authorized UT Southwestern users.Ghrelin is a peptide hormone secreted mainly from the stomach. It has a unique octanoylation on Ser-3 by Ghrelin-O-Acyltransferase (GOAT). We have previously shown that Goat−/− mice developed severe hypoglycemia under 60% calorie restriction. Liver autophagy has been reported to play a crucial role in maintaining blood glucose during fasting. The present work was carried out to explore whether autophagy plays a role in the onset of hypoglycemia in Goat−/− mice. We observed a deficiency in autophagy in livers of calorie-restricted Goat−/− mice by showing lower expression level of LC3-II, an autophagy marker. This was further demonstrated by showing 10-fold fewer autolysosomes in livers of calorie-restricted Goat−/− mice as compared to the control mice (20 electron microscopic images analyzed for each group). We then went on to show that the deficiency in autophagy in Goat−/− mice can be restored by infusion of growth hormone. It can also be restored by injections of lactate, a gluconeogenic precursor, or octanoate, a fatty acid that spares the usage of glucose. Protein expression of p- STAT 5, a downstream target of growth hormone action, was significantly lower in livers of calorie-restricted Goat−/− mice, and was restored by infusion of growth hormone and by injections of lactate or octanoate. Protein expression levels of LC3-II and p-STAT 5 showed a strong correlation (r2=0.87, p<10-6) through the time course of calorie-restriction. Considered together, these data suggest that the onset of autophagy during calorie restriction is strongly correlated with the ghrelin-growth hormone axis, and that autophagy plays an important role in maintaining blood glucose homeostasis during chronic starvation
Subjectivity & domination: the Max Stirmer\' s criticism to the alienation as a element of the process of constitution of modern subjectivity
This paper intends to examine the texts of Max Stirner - specially those related to the first part of his major work, The Ego and its Own - by assuming the perspective that through these texts, the author articulates a diagnosis of how the modern subjectivity, in the process of its constitution, forms itself compromised with domination. For this, we will need to remake with the philosopher the dialectical path of the self, from Antiquity to its modern manifestation, identifying in this way the reasons that made this ego to alienate from itself - without obliterating the role of art and religion in the creation, rejuvenation and maintenance of this alienation. Moreover, it will also be found in this paper a discussion about the forms of modern rationality, moral and education - important elements of the subjectivity, that compose with it a systematic whole where nothing but the claims of the \"spirit\" find place, in despite of everything that originates from individuality. Therefore, for an appropriate approach of these questions, one must comprehend the constitution of Modernity and its correlated subjectivity, identifying the way by which, within this process, domination engraves itself immanently in the self. In other words, this means that in the interpretation we are offering of Stirner\'s philosophy, the process of constitution of modern subjectivity and the domination are not independent phenomena, but rather are both resultants of one and the same process of engendering of Modernity
