The Institutionalisation of a Creative Practice: Changing Roles of Regional Design in Dutch National Planning
No full textThis chapter discusses the organisational setting of regional design in the realms of spatial planning and territorial governance. As a starting point, it argues that rules on how imagined design solutions function in an abstract, simplified ‘planning world’ are an important regional design product. When focusing on these rules, regional design practice resembles discretionary action. As such, it aims to improve planning decisions by judging the implications of planning frameworks when applied to particular situations. This implies that the involvement of actors in design practice requires careful consideration. As in any form of legitimate rule-building, a critical distance between those who initiate practices and conduct design, and those who judge the quality and relevance of design outcomes is essential. On the basis of these considerations the chapter investigates regional design practices that occurred between the 1980s and 2010s in the context of Dutch national planning. It shows how they transformed from being a form of professional advocacy, criticising planning, into a practice that was pragmatically used to implement a national planning agenda. A semiotic and philosophical-psychological perspective on concept formation in teaching geometry
No full textAusgehend von einem semiotischen Dreieck sowie den darin vorzufindenden Relationen werden Triangulationsbrüche im semiotischen Dreieck dargelegt. Diese konstituieren das Modell des Begriffsfeldes, das in Form eines semiotischen Dreiecksprismas dargestellt werden kann. Das Modell des Begriffsfeldes wird für den Begriff des Würfels exemplifiziert, und die Möglichkeit der Übertragung des Begriffsfeldes auf andere Begriffe wird begründet. Vor dem Hintergrund des Begriffsfeldes werden mit Rückgriff auf Concept Image und Concept Definition von TALL und VINNER sowie auf Arbeiten aus Philosophie, Psychologie und von aus der Fachmathematik stammenden Autoren die Begriffe Begriffsbild und Begriffskonvention erarbeitet. Schließlich wird, wiederum exemplarisch für den Begriff Würfel, mittels einer Umfrage erhoben, welche Aspekte eines allgemeinen, theoretischen Begriffsfeldes Teil des Begriffsbildes von Schülerinnen und Schülern sind.
Darüber hinaus werden Grundvorstellungen, welche die Rolle eines Verbindungsgliedes von Begriffsbild und Begriffskonvention einnehmen, thematisiert. Nachdem auf die Grundvorstellungsdiskussion in der deutschsprachigen Mathematikdidaktik eingegangen wurde, wird ein Modell entwickelt, das als Werkzeug zur Gestaltung von einem auf Grundvorstellungen zielenden Unterricht dienen kann. Letztlich wird ein Blick in Schulbücher geworfen und damit gezeigt, wie die entwickelte Theorie praxisrelevant angewendet werden kann.Starting from a semiotic triangle as well as the relations it comprises, several possible violations of the triangulation in said triangle are being presented. These constitute the model of the conceptual field, which may be depicted in the form of a semiotic triangular prism. The model of the conceptual field is being exemplified for the concept of cube, and the transfer of the conceptual field to other concepts is being substantiated. Against the background of the conceptual field and going back to Concept Image and Concept Definition by TALL and VINNER as well as works from philosophy, psychology and by authors from mathematics the concepts of Concept Image and Concept Convention are being established. Finally, the concept of cube serves as an example for a survey which is being conducted to find out which aspects of a general, theoretical conceptual field are part of the Concept Image of pupils.
Furthermore, “Grundvorstellungen”, which take the role of a connecting link between Concept Image and Concept Convention, are being discussed. After the discourse on “Grundvorstellungen” in German mathematics education has been related, a model which may serve as an instrument to compose lessons aiming for “Grundvorstellungen” is being developed. Eventually, some schoolbooks are being viewed to demonstrate how the theory, which has been developed, may be applied in practice
