Line zonotopes: A tool for state estimation and fault diagnosis of unbounded and descriptor systems
This paper proposes new methods for set-based state estimation and active fault diagnosis (AFD) of linear descriptor systems (LDS). Unlike intervals, ellipsoids, and zonotopes, constrained zonotopes (CZs) can directly incorporate linear static constraints on state variables – typical of descriptor systems – into their mathematical representation, leading to less conservative enclosures. However, for LDS that are unstable or not fully observable, a bounded representation cannot ensure a valid enclosure of the states over time. To address this limitation, we introduce line zonotopes, a new representation for unbounded sets that retains key properties of CZs, including polynomial time complexity reduction methods, while enabling the description of strips, hyperplanes, and the entire n-dimensional Euclidean space. This extension not only generalizes the use of CZs to unbounded settings but can also enhance set-based estimation and AFD in both stable and unstable scenarios. Additionally, we extend the AFD method for LDS from Rego et al. (2020) to operate over reachable tubes rather than solely on the reachable set at the final time of the considered horizon. This reduces conservatism in input separation and enables more accurate fault diagnosis based on the entire output sequence. The advantages of the proposed methods over existing CZ-based approaches are demonstrated through numerical examples

Natural history. Centroctenus varzea sp. n. is one of the most abundant spiders in the flooded forests (várzea) of the Amazon River (Rego et al. 2009). Eighty-nine specimens were collected in samples scattered approximately 3,000 km along the river, at both margins and at the end of the flood season (from September to early November/2003). C. varzea sp. n. is a nocturnal wandering spider, found foraging at the leaf litter near rivers, lakes and streams. Few specimens were collected at night on beaches and ravines, and three individuals (less than 4% of the total) were caught during the daylight on shrubs and bare soil in non-flooded forest (terra-firme). The high abundance of juveniles and adults even in wet soil after flooding suggests that C. varzea sp. n. returns to flooded forests as the water descends into the Amazon River and its tributaries. The organization (Ângkar) as a state of exception: The case of the S-21 extermination camp, Phnom Penh
Organization theory, Clegg pointed out, has failed to address the role of organizations in some of the crimes of/against humanity, suggesting that more attention should be given to the case of total institutions. With this paper we respond to Clegg's invitation and study the S-21 extermination camp, in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. We do so by engaging with the work of the Italian philosopher Giorgio Agamben, with the aim of investigating the organizational patterns that constitute the camp as a 'State of Exception'. Doing so shows us how organizations can become malign forces for evil. We explore the implications of this case for more general 'Kafkaesque organization', that sometimes reproduce, in more benign forms, many of the practices found at S-21. © 2012 Copyright Taylor and Francis Group, LLC
The lexicon of horse pathologies in Instruçam da Cavallaria de Brida by Antonio Pereyra Rego confronted with the lexicon of its sources
The aim of this work consists in the comparison between the lexicon of horse pathologies
which is present in the treatise of veterinary medicine, Instruçam da Cavallaria de Brida: tratado
unico, dedicada ao invicto martyr S. Jorge, by Antonio Pereyra Rego, published in 1679, and the
lexicon which is present in the sources of this book. The author mentions many foreign treatises in
which he had based the redaction of this work. The comparison between the lexicon of horse diseases
in Portuguese, in French and in Spanish, which emerges in the several sources that are mentioned by
Rego, allows us to investigate if the influence of those treatises on Rego is only observable in a conceptual
domain or if it also produced results in the terminological field
Jose Lins do Rego - from learner to writer: the didactic communication as edition phenomena
Discuto assim,
o fazer do livro, a relação editor autor.
encontrei a Cartilha Literária José Lins do Rego.
Ferreira, Paul Zumthor, Maurice Halbwachs e Iuri Lotman. Para trabalhar com a
narrativa e os diferentes gêneros do discurso, utilizei Mikhail Bakhtin e os trabalhos
F. Bittencourt e Roger
ChartierThe study consists in the analysis of the learning course of the author José Lins
do Rego, from the moment of his first contact with literature to making himself a
writer, turning [himself] into an edition phenomenon. Hence I analyzed the
different reading practices registered by the author, comprehending, at first, the
reading of what I denominated lived texts, that is, the remembrance of listening
the speeches and oral literature heard by José Lins do Rego in his childhood. I
analyze, here, the intrinsic relationship among the orally poetics, memory and
writing. In second, I examined the reading of the written verbal registered by the
author, in Doidinho. The narrator remembers the utilization he made of the
school manuals (highlight to Livros de Leitura by Felisberto Rodrigues Pereira de
Carvalho and Cuore by Edmond D Amici) and of other texts as the Carlos
Magno and the 12 pairs from French at the time he attended the INSC in
Itabaiana. I investigated the diverse uses and the different interpretations of the
school - manual as a disseminator of political projects and of the users and those
surrounding them lifestyles constituting ideologies. Those readings, as the
listening pointed by the narrator, establish the place of the memory. I also aim at
accompany the voice in the writing, that is, I seek by that the memory place that
became writing: it s the turning itself into writer of José Lins do Rego.
Investigating in the same direction I bring the production of José Lins do Rego in
multiple media. I therefore discuss the making of the book, the relationship editor
- author. To finish, I return to the school universe to investigate the author s text
being applied in school, and as example I found the Cartilha Literária José Lins
do Rego. As theoretical underpinning to the discussion about memory, writing
and orally I have called forth to authors as Jerusa Pires Ferreira, Paul Zumthor,
Maurice Halbwachs e Iuri Lotman. To deal with the narrative and the different
genres of discourse, I made use of Mikhail Bakhtin and the works of Jacques
Migozzi, Jean-Yves Mollier, and Jean-Claude Vareille. And, to study the author -
editor relationship, I employed authors as Circe M. F. Bittencourt e Roger

Diffusive author(s), cohesive author: Analysis of S/N (1994)
This study indicates the ways in which various aspects of the author(s) are brought forth in Dumb type’s performance art, the S/N production. Previous research has suggested a non-hierarchical organization of Dumb type and the absence of a “privileged author” in Dumb type’s collaborative work, S/N. However, the results that I have investigated from member’s interviews on the creative process of S/N along with my analysis of the recorded images of S/N, indicate a different aspect of the author(s). First, S/N was created through, so to speak, the collective ideas of the members of Dumb type. Further, S/N has at least nine quotations from previous performances, installations, and printed writings, besides the work-in-progress technique. Explicating one of the “author functions” as given by Michel Foucault, each text has plural subjects of the author. However, it has been revealed from members’ interviews that Teiji Furuhashi had a decision-making role in selecting the members’ ideas within the performance. Since then, S/N has had plural subjects of creation; however, Furuhashi is one of the subjects of creation along with the “privileged author.” S/N has plural authors (diffusive authors) yet at the same time, it has a “privileged author,” Teiji Furuhashi (cohesive author)
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
