More to Language than Picture Naming: Norms and Patient Data for a Verb Generation Task
Standardized confrontation naming is widely used to measure language impairment in persons with aphasia (PWAs). However, naming often does not reveal severity of language impairment in PWAs. We asked participants to generate verbs, given object picture stimuli. Phase 1 of this study investigates verb generation in 38 non-brain damaged participants (NCs) on 218 objects. Phase 2 examines verb generation performance of three PWAs, post-naming treatment on their subsets of objects (n=60). Preliminary data suggest that domain (i.e., living vs. artifact) affects agreement in NCs. The effects of training and practice on verb generation in PWAs are also discussed
La création des figures romanesques dans Le Doyen de Killerine de l'abbé Prévost
Le Doyen de Killerine (1730-1735), troisième roman de l abbé Prévost, malgré un succès notable au moment de sa parution figure actuellement parmi les œuvres les plus méconnues du public. Pourtant, à l image de Cleveland ou de Manon Lescaut, celui-ci fait partie des romans les plus représentatifs et significatifs de l auteur. Les personnages offrent une grille de lecture pertinente et remarquable quant au processus de la création romanesque : si Manon Lescaut et des Grieux forment l un des couples les plus populaires de la littérature du XVIIIe siècle, que dire des multiples personnages que l auteur crée au fil de ses écrits ? À ce titre, Le Doyen de Killerine offre une kyrielle de portraits riches et variés qui se révèlent être au cœur du roman ; afin d en dégager les enjeux et les effets romanesques propres à l univers du romancier, notre thèse se propose d étudier les aspects de la création des figures romanesques dans Le Doyen de Killerine dont nous pensons qu il témoigne du génie prévostien et qu il offre un éclairage non seulement sur la production littéraire du XVIIIe siècle, mais aussi sur la société d Ancien Régime dont il reflète les aspirations, les doutes et les attentes.Pour tenter de répondre à ces exigences, nous mettrons ce roman en relation avec l ensemble de l oeuvre de l abbé Prévost ainsi qu avec d autres œuvres contemporaines ou non tout en orientant notre démarche vers des aspects essentiels de la création des personnages à l instar de la manière dont l auteur les inscrit dans une vie fictive, dont il les plonge dans l aventure, dont il leur assigne une identité, des rôles ou encore dont il leur impose un destin.Le Doyen de Killerine (The Dean of Killerine, 1730-1735), Abbé Prévost s third novel remains among it s author s less known work, although it was a certain success when it came out. The characters provide a relevant and remarkable way to understand the process of fictional creation: if Manon Lescaut and des Grieux form one of the most popular couple in the 18th century literature, what can we say about the numerous characters the author invented through his writings?As such, Le Doyen de Killerine shows a myriad of different portraits that are actually in the heart of the novel. In order to identify the specific issues and the fictional effects of the author, this thesis is to study the different aspects in the creation of the fictional characters in Le Doyen de Killerine. Indeed, we believe this work reflects the genius of Prévost and provides a perspective on the 18th century writing production on the one hand, and on the Ancien Régime society on the other hand, as it reflects its aspirations, doubts and expectations.To try to complete these demands, this study will relate that novel to the entire work of Abbé Prévost as well as to other works, contemporary or not. O processo de digitação para violão da Ciaccona BWV 1004 de Johann Sebastin Bach
Este trabalho trata do processo de digitação para violão da Ciaccona BWV 1004 (original para violino) de Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750). O objetivo foi desenvolver uma digitação de mão esquerda capaz de refletir as intenções musicais do presente autor. Para tal, foi estabelecido um modelo de análise, onde a textura musical é dividida e classificada, com base em referenciais teóricos, como: melódica, harmônica, motívica e polifônica. Ao analisar as digitações usadas em transcrições, e compará-las às desta pesquisa, concluímos que se pode ter autonomia para contestar uma digitação grafada, pois ela reflete nada mais que as decisões do seu autor, sejam musicais ou técnicas. A partir disto, podemos deduzir que elas se alteram conforme as nossas próprias decisões.This work deals with the process of elaborating guitar fingerings for J. S. Bach’s Ciaccona BWV 1004 (original for violin). The aim was to develop a left hand fingering able to reflect the musical intentions of the present author. To this end, a model of analysis was established, in which the musical texture is divided and classified, based on theoretical references, into the following categories: melodic, harmonic, motivic and polyphonic. By analyzing the fingering used on transcriptions, and comparing it with the results of this research, we conclude that we can question a suggested fingering, because it reflects nothing more than the decisions of its author, whether musical or technical. From this we can deduce that they change according to our own decisions

Influencia del pensamiento de Simone de Beauvoir en la filosofía.
El pensamiento de la filósofa francesa, es un punto clave de partida para la teorización de diversos principios, que a día de hoy se estudian como problemáticas sociales vigentes, en especial ara las mujeres, la presente investigación se centra en el análisis de la influencia del pensamiento de Simone de Beauvoir en la filosofía, es decir, cómo las ideas de la autora han contribuido a redefinir la percepción de género y a su vez inspirado movimientos de mujeres en todo el mundo, que buscan la emancipación y equidad de género. El estudio sostuvo un enfoque cualitativo, aplicado con revisión bibliográfica y documental, además de técnicas de recolección de información como la entrevista y el grupo focal, que brindaron diversas perspectivas para complementar los datos obtenidos. Los resultados presentan la relevancia de esta pensadora tanto en la academia como fuera de ella, pues gracias a sus textos la filosofía toma forma de mujer, caracterizando las problemáticas colectivas que aplacan el desarrollo de las féminas, cabe destacar que la representación de la autora en el campo de la filosofía tuvo un papel fundamental en la apertura de espacios para que otras mujeres expresaran sus ideas y pensamientos en un entorno que, históricamente, se había mostrado opuesto a ello. Finalmente, las conclusiones agregan la realidad de la vigencia de las concepciones filosóficas e influencia de Beauvoir aun después de la segunda ola feminista.The thought of the French philosopher is a key starting point for the theorization of various principles, which today are studied as current social problems, especially for women. This research focuses on the analysis of the influence of the thought of Simone de Beauvoir in philosophy, in other words, how the ideas of the author have contributed to redefine the perception of gender and in turn inspired movements of women around the world, who seek emancipation and gender equality. This study was based on a qualitative approach, applied with bibliographic and documentary review, in addition to data collection techniques such as interviews and focus groups, which provided different perspectives to complement the data obtained. The results reveal the relevance of this thinker both in the academy and outside it, because thanks to her texts, philosophy takes the form of a woman, characterizing the collective problems that placate the development of women. It should be noted that the representation of the author in the field of philosophy played a fundamental role in opening spaces for other women to express their ideas and thoughts in an environment that, historically, had been opposed to it. O telefone celular como ferramenta pedagógica no processo de ensino-aprendizagem: produção textual do vídeo
The present work investigates the use of the mobile device as a pedagogical tool in the teaching-learning process in the textual production of the video, including it with a text that carries in its structure, diversity of languages and other texts. Approach on the socio-cognitive conception of textual production, by means of information and communication technologies in the digital age. Its field of research the Municipal School Professor Elizabeth Ferreira da Silva, in which are studied the pedagogical potential of the mobile device in the process of teaching and learning, and the production of video as challenging element in the way the production process in the textual construction are surveyed (video). Guided by the ethnographic study, methodological perspective that focuses on process, relying on the document analysis techniques, with the video the relevant document, and participant observation, with the instrument, the logbook commented. This observation involves contemporary technology within the school context, under the gaze of theoretical indications, which it is based. About the digital literacy and autonomy, we follow the view that autonomy depends on the individual's degree of literacy. In the case of collaborative learning, we observe the collective view of the diversity of individual intelligences, which cooperatively during the learning process build knowledge. As regards the production of meanings, we agree with the view that the many experiences over the life of the author and the reader infer the plurality of text senses. And finally, the conclusion of the research points to the considerations of the use of mobile phones for video production is effective as a tool for teaching-learning process, indicating us to opportunities consistent with the concepts of didactic and pedagogical practices in the contemporary context of cyber culture.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPESO presente trabalho investiga o uso do aparelho celular como ferramenta pedagógica no processo de ensino-aprendizagem na produção textual do vídeo, compreendendo este com um texto que comporta, na sua estrutura, uma diversidade de linguagens e de outros textos. Aborda sobre a concepção sóciocognitiva da produção textual, por meio das Tecnologias da Informação e Comunicação na era digital. Tem como campo de investigação a Escola Municipal Professora Elizabeth Ferreira da Silva, na qual são pesquisadas as potencialidades pedagógicas do aparelho celular no processo de ensino-aprendizagem, tendo a produção do vídeo como elemento desafiador no processo de produção de sentidos na construção textual (vídeo). Orienta-se pelo estudo tipo etnográfico, perspectiva metodológica que se concentra no processo, contando com as técnicas de análise de documentos, sendo o vídeo o documento de relevância, e a observação participante, tendo como instrumento, o diário de bordo comentado. Esta observação envolve as tecnologias contemporâneas dentro do contexto escolar, sob o olhar de indicações teóricas, as quais a fundamentam. Com relação ao letramento digital e à autonomia, seguimos a concepção de que a autonomia depende do grau de letramentos do indivíduo. Em se tratando da aprendizagem colaborativa, observamos a visão coletiva da diversidade de inteligências individuais, que, de forma cooperativa, durante o processo de aprendizagem, constroem conhecimento. No tocante a produção de sentidos, concordamos com a perspectiva de que as experiências múltiplas ao longo da vida do autor e do leitor inferem na pluralidade de sentidos do texto. E, por fim, a conclusão da pesquisa aponta para as considerações de que o uso do celular para produção de vídeo é efetivo, como ferramenta pedagógica no processo de ensino-aprendizagem, indiciando-nos para possibilidades compatíveis com as concepções de práticas didático-pedagógicas no contexto contemporâneo da cibercultura
Representação, memória e cultura : a composição do universo indígena em meu querido canibal, de Antônio Torres
A obra de Antônio Torres Meu Querido Canibal (2000) reescreve o indígena na literatura brasileira através de rastros históricos e literários. Primeiramente, explorou-se a forma como o autor usa o discurso dos viajantes colonizadores na construção de sua narrativa. A recordação é um instrumento utilizado pela obra, seguindo rastros históricos que questionam as lacunas deixadas na relação entre o passado e o presente. Recordar, no entanto, não é um ato nostálgico, mas sim um ato crítico em relação à representação da identidade. Demonstrou-se também de que forma as pedagogias e as performances (componentes apropriados da teoria pós-colonial) relacionam-se na construção da narrativa e, sobretudo, na relação ideológica entre identidade indígena e representação indígena. O esquecimento é, talvez, a questão central que permeia o projeto literário torreano, mote para a importância da observação dos aspectos da cultura. Através da análise interdisciplinar dos artefatos culturais (como monumentos, construções civis e nomes de placas) e do próprio propósito desSes mesmos objetos, tanto no mundo real como na obra literária de Antônio Torres, discutiu-se, pela via dos Estudos Culturais, como é retratada a identidade indígena na modernidade. As expressões da cultura contam uma história fatal e alienadora, cuja função é repetir os símbolos e as tradições ocidentais, elevando as narrativas estrangeiras e abafando as narrativas locais. Contudo, com as literaturas de representação indígena, percebe-se o caráter transformador, metamórfico e dialético: na contraposição entre o “eu” e o “outro”, sem perder de vista sua própria alteridade, o nativo sobreviveu aos invasores e superou as dificuldades de seu povo. O indígena atravessou as doenças trazidas por estrangeiros, os processos de extermínio de sua cultura e o sistema de exclusão social no qual negociou sua sobrevivência até então. O indígena é, talvez, a metamorfose simbólica do que há de mais verossímil do herói épico, como assim quer o próprio Antônio Torres, na atualidade.The literary work Meu Querido Canibal (2000) by Antônio Torres rewrites the indigenous representation in brazilian literature through historical and literary traces. First, it was researched how the author uses the colonial traveller’s discourse in the construction of his narrative. Memory is an instrument used on his creative writing, following historical traces questioning the gaps left in the relation between the past and the present. Remembering, however, is not a nostalgic act, but a critical insight in relation to the identity representation. On the other hand, it was understood how pedagogies and performances, components appropriated from post-colonial theory, are related in the construction of the narrative and, above all, in the ideological relation between indigenous identity and indigenous representation. Forgetfulness is perhaps the central question that permeates the literary project by Antônio Torres, motif for the observation of the aspects of the culture. Through the relation between the interdisciplinary culture circuit representation provided by Cultural Studies and the very purpose of these same objects both in Torre’s literature and at the real world (such as monuments, civil constructions and names in the address plate signs,) it was discussed how the indigenous identity is portrayed in the modernity. The objects of culture tell a fatal and alienating history whose function is to repeat Western symbols and tradition, elevating foreign narratives whereas stifling local narratives. However, with indigenous literatures, the transformative, metamorphic and dialectical character is perceived: in the contrast between the "self" and the "Other", without losing sight of its own Otherness, the native survived the invaders and overcame the difficulties of its people. In spite of the struggles, the natives defied the deseases, the genocides and the exclusion systems in which he still negociates his survival. The indigenous is perhaps the symbolic metamorphosis of the most plausible and closest figure to the epic hero, as the author himself Antônio Torres claims him to be
Ecologia do homem: método alternativo de dessensibilização da glande peniana para o controle ejaculatório
The body is the field of human nature, to know it, discover it, is paramount for self-knowledge and for its pres¬ervation as a micro-universe of individual ecology. This paper describes the procedures of an intimate massage technique, called by the author of “alternative method of desensitisation of the penile glans”, as a suggestion of recourse to self-control of ejaculation (precocious) and, above all, to promote the process of body self-con¬sciousness. The reflections and partial hypotheses of this research are based on theoretical references of hu¬man ecology, concepts of biology and Reichian psychology. If all hypotheses of severe physiological/patholog¬ical or psychic /neurotic conditions (including erectile dysfunction) are discarded, the method may in many cases offer users of active sexual activity significant advances in ejaculatory control, prolonging the penetra¬tion capacity during intercourse Sexual relations. Because it resembles a masturbatory maneuver, the tech-nique offers no risk to the user’s health and can easily be suggested during sexual orientation consultations, in psychology, sexology and urology clinics.O corpo é o palco da natureza humana, conhecê-lo, desbravá-lo é pri¬mordial para o autoconhecimento e para sua preservação enquanto microuniverso da ecologia individual. Esse trabalho descreve os pro¬cedimentos de uma técnica de massagem íntima, chamada pelo autor de “método alternativo de dessensibilização da glande” como sugestão de recurso para o autocontrole da ejaculação (precoce) e, sobretudo para a promoção do processo de autoconsciência corporal. As refle¬xões e hipóteses parciais dessa pesquisa fundamentam-se em referen¬ciais teóricos da ecologia humana, em conceitos da biologia e da psi¬cologia reichiana. Descartadas todas as hipóteses de condições fisioló-gicas/patológicas ou psíquicas/ neuróticas graves, (incluindo a dis-função erétil) o referido método pode em muitos casos oferecer aos usuários de atividade sexual ativa avanços significativos sobre o con-trole ejaculatório, prolongando a capacidade de penetração durante as relações sexuais. Por assemelhar-se a uma manobra masturbatória, a técnica não oferece riscos à saúde do usuário e pode ser facilmente sugerida durante consultas de orientação sexual, em clínicas de psico¬logia, sexologia e urologia.
A construção das subjetividades femininas em como água para chocolate, de Laura Esquivel
This dissertation proposes an analysis of the development of the female subjectivities in Como água para chocolate, by Mexican author Laura Esquivel, taking into consideration the gastronomic discourse present throughout the novel. For this purpose, our endeavor contemplates four possibilities of investigation, aiming for a better understanding of said phenomenon: the presence of women’s voices in the process of (re)writing History; the movements of oppression and resistance in the kitchen space; the affect among characters weaved from the gastronomic discourse; and the different standpoints on motherhood. Our theoretical framework encompasses an interdisciplinary study, undergoing Literary Theory and Criticism, History, Historiography, Philosophy and the study on the relation between the culinary rhetoric and literature, something that allows for a more comprehensive and meaningful approach. Our arguments are supported by theoretical principles drawn mainly from Woolf (2014), Sceats (2003), Badinter (1985) e Hutcheon (1987). As a result of the dialogue between the novel and the theoretical framework, we have been able to discuss the ways in which Esquivel constructs a singular narrative, demonstrating inventive capacity, resistance and empowerment of her female characters deriving from the experiences of everyday life, and subverting the expectations of representation of those characters in the literary canon.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPESA presente dissertação propõe uma investigação acerca da construção das subjetividades femininas em Como água para chocolate, da autora mexicana Laura Esquivel, a partir do discurso gastronômico que perpassa o romance. Para tanto, nosso trabalho contempla quatro caminhos de análise, objetivando melhor compreender a constituição de tal fenômeno: as vozes das mulheres no processo de (re)escrita da história; os movimentos de opressão e resistência no espaço da cozinha; as relações de afeto construídas a partir do dado gastronômico; e os diferentes lugares do materno. Nosso embasamento teórico se alicerça em um estudo interdisciplinar que transita por diferentes áreas de conhecimento, como Teoria e Crítica Literária, História, Historiografia, Filosofia e pelos estudos da relação entre o discurso culinário e a literatura, o que nos permite abordar as propostas de análise de forma mais abrangente e significativa. Nosso referencial teórico se constitui especialmente pelas discussões de Woolf (2014), Sceats (2003), Badinter (1985) e Hutcheon (1987). Notamos, como consequência do diálogo entre romance e teorias, como Esquivel constrói uma narrativa singular, demonstrando potência para a inventividade, resistência e protagonismo de suas personagens femininas a partir das vivências do efêmero, subvertendo as expectativas de representação e empoderamento de tais personagens no cânone literário
Ultrastrong medium-entropy single-phase alloys designed via severe lattice distortion
Severe lattice distortion is a core effect in the design of multiprincipal element alloys with the aim to enhance yield strength, a key indicator in structural engineering. Yet, the yield strength values of medium- and high-entropy alloys investigated so far do not substantially exceed those of conventional alloys owing to the insufficient utilization of lattice distortion. Here it is shown that a simple VCoNi equiatomic medium-entropy alloy exhibits a near 1 GPa yield strength and good ductility, outperforming conventional solid-solution alloys. It is demonstrated that a wide fluctuation of the atomic bond distances in such alloys, i.e., severe lattice distortion, improves both yield stress and its sensitivity to grain size. In addition, the dislocation-mediated plasticity effectively enhances the strength–ductility relationship by generating nanosized dislocation substructures due to massive pinning.
