    Treball Final de Grau en Medicina. Codi: MD1158. The term ultratrail encompasses any race that exceeds the standard distance of a marathon and is run in the high mountains. It has important consequences on a physiopathological level since, among others, extreme sport is an important inducer of oxidative damage. Objectives: The main objective of this work has been to study if the performance of a strenuous exercise like the UltraTrail Penyagolosa of 2019 affects the oxidative state of the runners' plasma as well as to observe if the age and gender of the participants affect this oxidative state. Methods: A marker of oxidative damage and an antioxidant were analyzed in the plasma of 32 participants to assess the oxidative state. Malondialdehyde (MDA) was taken as a marker of oxidative damage because it is the main product of lipid peroxidation. Glutathione reductase (GSH-Rx) was chosen as an antioxidant factor because of its involvement in the glutathione system, the main intracellular antioxidant system. The samples were taken the day before the race, at the finish line, at 24 hours and 48 hours after the race. Results and conclusion: The results obtained have shown that the UltraTrail Penyagolosa is an inducer of oxidative damage by increasing MDA levels throughout the race. There are no significant differences between the levels of GSH-Rx and MDA taking into account the gender of the participants. In terms of age, there are significant differences (p<0.05) in the MDA levels of the older population with respect to the younger population

    Competitiveness and Growth of the Mexican Economy.

    We address the role that deep, structural factors may have as determinants of Mexico’s economic growth. We argue that Mexico’s poor growth performance appears to be associated not only with shorter-run events such as the "lost decade" of the eighties, but also with supply-side features of the economy that have been present for at least four decades. Mexico’s low competitiveness and poor growth potential seem to reflect an institutional framework that tends to support rigid, non-competitive market structures, and incentives that promote the allocation of resources towards unproductive rent-seeking activities relatively more than into investment, production, productivity, and adoption of superior technologies. We present examples of input markets where we believe these issues are central. We conclude that solving this situation requires microeconomic policies that lead to fundamental changes in the incentive structure of the economy.Competitiveness and growth, productivity, efficiency, comparative advantage.

We integrate new field data and detrital zircon ages of the exposed portion of the Huincul High that permit us to quantify the significance of this intraplate deformation in the relief generation. A stratigraphic and structural record of a Jurassic pulsed contractional deformation is derived from field surveys. It is documented through multiple unconformities and growth geometries linked to NE and E–W oriented growth structures extensively developed across the studied region. The pattern of zircon ages from the analyzed Late Jurassic successions indicates that they have a clear provenance from sources located along the Huincul deformation zone. The Tordillo Formation outcrops north of the Huincul High have a dominant provenance from the Andean Jurassic arc; while the Quebrada del Sapo Formation, south of the Huincul High, has a significant input from Late Triassic (220–200 Ma) and Late Permian (280–260 Ma) sources of the axial exposures of the Huincul High. Surface data, combined with detrital zircon ages proved to be a powerful method to confirm the presence of an ancient positive element developed within the southern Neuquén basin. Its genesis falls within the early history of the Huincul deformation zone, where several structural features indicate pulses of growth since Early Jurassic times prior to the main Andean contractional cycle that started in the Late Cretaceous. Therefore, these data document for the first time the importance of the early contractional phases in the relief construction in the southern Central Andes, reinforcing previous hypotheses about pre-Andean intraplate deformation concentrated along this extensive east–west oriented basement weakness zone

    Cash flow is cash and is a fact. Net income is just an opinion

    A company's profit after tax (or net income) is quite an arbitrary figure, obtained after assuming certain accounting hypotheses regarding expenses and revenues. On the other hand, its cash flow is an objective measure, a single figure that is not subject to any personal criterion. In general, to study a company's situation, it is more useful to operate with the cash flow (equity cash flow, free cash flow or capital cash flow) as it is a single figure, while the net income is one of several that can be obtained, depending on the criteria applied. Profit after tax (PAT) is equal to the equity cash flow when the company is not growing, buys fixed assets for an amount identical to depreciation, keeps debt constant, and only writes off or sells fully depreciated assets. Profit after tax (PAT) is also equal to the equity cash flow when the company collects in cash, pays in cash, holds no stock (this company's working capital requirements are zero), and buys fixed assets for an amount identical to depreciation. When making projections, the dividends and other forecast payments to shareholders must be exactly equal to expected equity cash flows.Cash flow; Net income; Equity cash flow; Free cash flow; Capital cash flow;

    Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Filosofia e Ciências HumanasDurante a década de 1920 em Itajaí há uma necessidade em constituir corpos saudáveis por iniciativa de políticos sintonizados com as discussões políticas e intelectuais que se faziam acerca da nação. Desencadeando na cidade um investimento na formação intelectual através da leitura e no cultivo do físico por meio de práticas esportivas como elemento regenerador do corpo. Demonstram um dialogo entre Itajaí e os centros de produção intelectual e política do país. Observando os investimentos sobre a normatização dos espaços urbanos na virada do século XIX para o XX, e, como esse processo vai articulando-se a um discurso sobre o corpo onde cidade, leitura e esporte se inscrevem na textualidade do urbano e nos corpos na década de 2

    Cyclical ruins: A videopoem on sun and sand tourism spaces in the low season

    This is an Accepted Manuscript of a book chapter published by Routledge in Ambiance, Tourism and the Cityon on 2023, available online: https://www.routledge.com/Ambiance-Tourism-and-the-City/Sanchez-Fuarros-Paiva-Calvo/p/book/9781032074979Attracted by low-cost “sun and sand” destinations, an increasing number of tourists visit the Spanish Mediterranean regions every summer; however, when the high season ends, thousands of hotels, restaurants, leisure resorts, and residential complexes remain empty, merely awaiting the next year. Considering that a ruin is an abandoned place where there was once an activity, this chapter argues that such a state of temporal desertion allows us to regard these stand-by architectures as “cyclical ruins”, representing a critical metaphor of the country’s tourism model at present. In December 2019, I conducted a three-day road trip to explore the main “sun and sand” tourism destinations in Southern Spain. Through my de-contextualized presence, I felt eeriness and a sense of the uncanny, which resulted in precisely the opposite impressions to what these spaces are originally conceived for. Deploying the notions of “liminality” and “spectral ethnography”, and having elaborated an eight-minute length videopoem, the aim of this chapter is to highlight the emotional duality triggered by modern ruins’ urban ambiances, where criticism towards the aggressive shaping of the seafront landscape coexists with aesthetical fascination.This work has been originally funded through a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship granted by the Urban Studies Foundation. Pequeñas inflexiones: construir un discurso artístico sobre violencia de género en educación secundaria

    Full text link
    This project addressed gender-based violence and developed a critical education in adolescent students through an artistic action. The entire project was based in the concept of adiaphoron, coined by Bauman and Donskis (2013). This concept refers to the passivity of the subject in front of the suffering of other persons. The results of the project are conceptualised through research in art paradigm (Frayling, 1993) and according to the sociology of the gender-based violence. The analysis reveals that despite the youth of the students they developed an informed vision of gender-based violence, enabling consciousness about this reality both in them and in the public of the performance.El proyecto que se describe trata sobre violencia de género y desarrolló una educación crítica en alumnos adolescentes a través de la acción artística. El proyecto tomó como base el concepto de adiaphoron de Bauman y Donskis (2013), entendido este como la pasividad del sujeto frente al sufrimiento de los demás. Los resultados del proyecto son conceptualizados empleando un modelo de investigación “dentro del arte” (Frayling, 1993) y teniendo en cuenta la sociología de la violencia de género. En este análisis se comprueba que los alumnos, a pesar de su juventud, desarrollaron una visión madura de la problemática, posibilitando una toma de conciencia –tanto en ellos como en el público– de la realidad tratada
