Coastal erosion project, Diani beach, Kenya
Master project report. Since the seventies, the establishment of hotels and other facilities has increased the pressure on the Kenyan coast. During the last decade, hotel managers and residents in Diani Beach have been experiencing problems with erosion. The only measures taken to address the problem are individually built seawalls to protect private properties. These seawalls are mostly not properly built and do not decrease the erosion rate. Erosion continues and beaches are still disappearing. In some places, coral rock is exposed or buildings collapse. The economy in Diani Beach is strongly depending on tourism. A white beach with a gentle slope and a flourishing ecosystem of lagoon and coral reef is desirable to attract tourists. The current situation in most parts of Diani Beach is far from desired. Diani Beach seems to be subject to structural erosion, due to several reasons. Initially, the narrowness of the African continental shelf leads to an easily loss of sediment into the deep ocean. Also the fact that there are no high mountain ranges along the Kenyan coast results in a low rate of sediment flowing into the ocean. A lack of sand combined with the relative stableness of the African crustal plate can be seen as causes for structural erosion. In Diani Beach the process is accelerated by a number of factors, both human and nature induced. Measures have to be taken to recover and maintain the desired situation. However, it is difficult to determine the optimal solution because of policy issues and lack of data. Several measures are proposed, which can be divided into three categories: management and policy measures, soft measures and hard measures. The first category implies e.g. determination of the setback line, altered approach to fishery and enforcement of legislations. Soft measures include planting of vegetation and beach nourishment. Breakwaters, groynes and improvement of seawalls are hard measures. A combination of measures can have effect on both short and long term, first recovering and subsequently maintaining the desired situation. The representation of evaluative and argumentative procedures: examples from the academic book review article
This paper documents some of the linguistic resources used to construct evaluation and argumentation in a corpus of academic book review articles. The study investigates the discursive strategies the reviewer adopts to present his/her evaluative moves in order to highlight the discursive and argumentative dimension of the genre. Particular attention is paid to the pragmatic functions of lexicalisations of argumentative procedures, when they are used to introduce argumentative discourse. More specifically, the analysis focuses on all the reporting expressions that are associated with explicit signals of the reviewer’s positive or negative evaluation of the position of the reviewed book authors, with varying degrees of conflict or convergence. The findings reveal that the genre of the book review article finds its specificity in a combination of evaluative language and reporting. Reporting the ideas an author discusses in his or her book can be thus seen as a point of departure for the reviewer’s development of an evaluative discourse, particularly in sequences where the reviewed author’s reported opinions are presented in a kind of argumentative dialogue that helps the reviewer illustrate his/her views. The reviewer’s argumentative evaluation thus becomes a major element in the representation of the ideas under discussion. Although the most common and generally accepted interpretation of argumentative dialogue is that of a dialogue between an (active) Proponent and a (passive) Evaluator, the analysis shows that evaluation, whether realised explicitly or in subtle and implicit forms, plays an important role in the kind of dialogue that the reviewer and the reviewed author construct around specific arguments
Multivoiced interaction in English and Italian academic review discourse: a cross-cultural analysis
The study presented in this chapter is based on an analysis of historical book review articles in English and Italian and investigates the way the genre across national academic cultures represents the typical discursive procedures through the activity of the reviewer and of other voices in the texts. The analysis reveals interesting linguistic features which can shed light on the dialogic and argumentative dimension of the genre under examination. As a result of the analysis carried out, it emerges that both English and Italian historical book review
articles are characterised by a plurality of textual voices involved in argumentative dialogue with the reviewer – reviewed book author, discourse community,
reader. These voices are powerfully active in the interaction and become the reviewer’s partners in a scientific ‘conversation’
Pengembangan Perangkat Pembelajaran Fisika Berbasis Pendidikan Karakter Dengan Model Problem Based Instruction
The unavailable of physics material learning based by the character education which conform with student's characteristic caused the student's competency and student's activity in study process was low. This research aim to develop physics material learning (syllabus, lesson plan, module, worksheet, and assessment) based by the character education with validity, practical, and effective problem based instruction model for the temperature and kalor subject. This research was the development research by using 4D models. The phases are define, design, and develop. The researcher did the analysis of curriculum, analysis of concepts, and analysis of students at define phase. On design phase, the researcher designed the physics material learning. Develop phase consist of validation phase, practicality, and effectivity. After designed, the physics material learning was validated by 5 validators. At practicality phase, physics material learning tested by the students of XB MAN 1 Sungai Penuh on even semester 2012/2013. At this activity, student and teacher will be ask for their comments about the practicality of physics material learning. Effectivity of physics material learning investigated at the same time with practicality phase. At this activity, student and teacher will be ask for their comments about the effectivity of physics material learning. Effectivity also seen from the improving of student's competency and student's activity in study process. The result showed that physics material learning based character education with model of problem based instruction are very valid, very practical and very effective
Evaluation in academic review articles
This paper explores ways in which evaluation is achieved in academic book review articles in the field of linguistics. Evaluation is analysed from a lexical and discourse perspective. From a lexical perspective, evaluation can be associated with meanings inherent in individual lexical terms used by the writer to express opinion about the ‘good-ness’ or ‘bad-ness’ of actions, facts or events. The second perspective is that of evaluation as a feature of discourse. In this view, evaluation does not reside in an individual lexical term but is a category of discourse meaning which can be expressed in many different ways. This paper examines the two main functions that book review articles combine and integrate to achieve evaluation: a) reporting the ideas an author discusses in his or her book as a springboard for a wider evaluation of them and b) discussing the issues they raise and an appraisal of what this means for the community. The assumption is that in a book review article the reviewer can construct his/her own evaluations by using multiple converging voices: his own voice as well as those of other sources referred to in the text. This means that evaluative space is opened up in which the reviewer can specify him/herself as the source of a viewpoint or can cite other authors under review. One strategy by which evaluation seems to be achieved is that of comparing and contrasting these various voices
Media Pembelajaran Fisika berbasis literasi Islam
Abstrak
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangan serta mengetahui kelayakan dan kemenarikan media pembelajaran fisika berbasis literasi islam yang dikembangkan dengan menggunakan software 3D pageflip professional. Media yang dikembangkan berupa flipbook untuk materi dinamika partikel. Hasil prapenelitian yang dilakukan di beberapa SMA terutama di MA menunjukkan bahwa perlu dikembangkan media pembelajaran berbasis literasi Islam ini. Jenis penelitian adalah penelitian pengembangan yang dilakukan sesuai tahapan model pengembangan ADDIE (analyze, design, development, implementation, dan evaluation). Penelitian ini menghasilkan media pembelajaran fisika berbasis literasi Islam yang sangat layak dan sangat menarik untuk digunakan sebagai media pembelajaran fisika SMA/MA.

Abstract
This study aims to develop and determine the feasibility and attractiveness of Islamic literacy-based physics learning media developed using professional pageflip 3D software. The media developed is a flipbook for particle dynamics material. The results of pre-research conducted in several high schools, especially in MA, show that it is necessary to develop this Islamic literacy-based learning media. This type of research is development research carried out according to the stages of the ADDIE development model (analyze, design, development, implementation, and evaluation). This study resulted in Islamic literacy-based physics learning media that was very feasible and very interesting to use as a medium of physics learning for SMA / MA.

Academic Evaluation: Review Genres in University Settings
Academic criticism can be highly fraught and face threatening, potentially wounding to the reviewed author and disruptive to the discipline, but it occurs routinely in review genres. This book explores how academics publically evaluate each others’ work. Focusing on blurbs, book reviews, review articles, and literature reviews, the international contributors to the volume show how writers manage to critically engage with others’ ideas, argue their own viewpoints, and establish academic credibility while simultaneously navigating these risky interactions. Perbandingan Pertahanan Midriasis Pupil saat Tindakan Fakoemulsifikasi antara Pemberian Tetes Midriatikum tanpa Natrium Diklofenak dan dengan Natrium Diklofenak
Latar Belakang: Katarak merupakan penyebab kebutaan dan gangguan penglihatan yang terbanyak di seluruh dunia. Fakoemulsifikasi merupakan salah satu teknik dalam pembedahan katarak. Pada saat melakukan fakoemulsifikasi, mutlak diperlukan iris dalam keadaan dilatasi maksimal. Ada kalanya efek dilatasi pupil setelah pemberian midriatikum tidak bertahan selama proses pembedahan. Natrium diklofenak dalam bentuk obat tetes mempunyai kegunaan antara lain mencegah miosis pada saat pembedahan katarak. Studi ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efek pemberian natrium diklofenak topikal dengan midriatikum dalam mempertahankan dilatasi pupil selama pembedahan katarak dengan fakoemulsifikasi. Metode: Penelitian ini bersifat observasional analitik dengan pendekatan cross sectional. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan teknik consecutive sampling. Tiga puluh dua sampel di RSUD Dr. Moewardi dan klinik mata Solo Eye Center. Data yang didapat dianalisis menggunakan uji T dan uji Chi Square. Dalam analisis data untuk uji normalitas maupun uji hipotesis, peneliti menggunakan software SPSS 22. Hasil: Terdapat perbedaan bermakna pada pelebaran pupil setelah irigasi dengan nilai p = 0,007. Kelompok tropikamid dan natrium diklofenak memiliki lebar pupil lebih besar dibandingkan dengan kelompok tropikamid. Terdapat perbedaan bermakna oleh rerata pelebaran pupil pada kelompok tropikamid dengan nilai p = 0,035. Simpulan: Terdapat hubungan antara pemberian midriatikum dan natrium diklofenak sebelum pembedahan dengan pertahanan dilatasi pupil pada pembedahan fakoemulsifikasi. Lebar pupil setelah irigasi dengan pemberian tropikamid dan natrium diklofenak lebih lebar dibandingkan tropikamid saja
Hubungan antara Lingkar Ambing dan Kapasitas Ambing terhadap Produksi Susu Sapi Perah Peranakan Friesian Holstein (PFH) pada Beberapa Periode Laktasi
Sapi perah adalah ternak dengan produksi utama susu
yang disekresikan oleh kelenjar ambing. Kelenjar ambing
terdiri dari empat kuartir yang masing-masing kuartirnya tidak
berhubungan. Kelenjar ambing bagian belakang memproduksi
60% dari total susu, sedangkan kelenjar ambing bagian depan
memproduksi 40%. Bentuk ambing yang besar, panjang dan
berjumbai memiliki produksi susu yang semakin tinggi karena
jumlah sel sekretori juga semakin banyak. Produksi susu yang
dihasilkan seekor sapi perah tergantung dari jumlah sel alveoli
yang ada di kelenjar ambing, sedangkan pertumbuhan kelenjar
ambing (mammogenesis) disebabkan adanya perubahan
hormonal, perubahan tersebut terjadi selama masa pubertas,
kebuntingan dan laktasi, namun perubahan yang signifikan
pada kelenjar ambing terjadi selama kebuntingan. Seleksi pada
saat sapi mengalami kebuntingan pertama akan menunjukkan
adanya mammogenesis.
Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan
antara lingkar ambing, kapasitas ambing, dan periode laktasi
terhadap produksi susu dan untuk mengetahui apakah periode
laktasi berpengaruh terhadap lingkar ambing dan kapasitas
ambing. Penelitian ini dilakukan selama satu bulan, yaitu pada
bulan Januari 2019 sampai Maret 2019 di Peternakan Rakyat
Sumber Gadung, Ngantang, Kabupaten Malang.
Materi penelitian ini adalah 60 ekor sapi perah PFH yang
sedang dalam masa laktasi dengan periode laktasi I sampai V.
Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode
studi kasus yaitu dengan mengukur lingkar ambing, kapasitas
ambing, dan produksi susu serta wawancara kepada manager
kandang mengenai periode laktasi. Analisis yang digunakan
untuk mengetahui hubungan lingkar ambing, kapasitas
ambing, dan periode laktasi terhadap produksi susu adalah
analisis regresi-korelasi dan untuk mengetahui pengaruh
periode laktasi terhadap lingkar ambing dan kapasitas ambing
menggunakan analisis Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL).
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa hubungan lingkar
ambing sebelum dan sesudah pemerahan memiliki hubungan
yang sangat nyata (P<0,01) terhadap produksi susu, dengan
nilai koefisien korelasi tertinggi dipengukuran sebelum
pemerahan pagi maupun sore (0,52). Kapasitas ambing
sebelum pemerahan pagi, sebelum pemerahan sore dan
sesudah pemerahan sore memiliki hubungan yang sangat nyata
(P<0,01) terhadap produksi susu, sedangkan kapasitas ambing
sesudah pemerahan pagi menunjukkan hubungan yang nyata
(P<0,05) terhadap produksi susu. Hasil analisis pengaruh
periode laktasi terhadap produksi susu tidak menunjukkan
perbedaan yang nyata terhadap lingkar dan kapasitas ambing.
Kesimpulannya adalah lingkar ambing dan kapasitas
ambing sebelum dan sesudah pemerahan pagi dan sore hari
memiliki hubungan yang positif terhadap produksi susu.
Periode laktasi ke-2 merupakan puncak produksi susu,
sehingga di periode laktasi selanjutnya produksi susu
mengalami penurunan. Periode laktasi tidak memiliki
pengaruh terhadap lingkar ambing dan kapasitas ambing
Pengaruh koping religius terhadap kecemasan setelah bebas pada anak binaan LPKA Kelas II Bandung

Kecemasan setelah bebas merupakan permasalahan psikologis yang sering dialami oleh anak binaan. Melihat permasalahan tersebut, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh koping religius terhadap kecemasan setelah bebas yang dialami oleh anak binaan LPKA Kelas II Bandung. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif kausalitas dengan uji analisis regresi linier sederhana. Responden dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 47 anak binaan yang berada di masa menjelang bebas bersyarat yang diperoleh berdasarkan teknik convinience sampling. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan kuesioner menggunakan The Adolescent Religious Coping Scale (ARCS) dan Dark Future Anxiety (DAS). Penelitian ini memperoleh hasil bahwa koping religius tidak memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap kecemasan masa depan setelah bebas pada anak binaan LPKA Kelas II Bandung.

Post-release anxiety is a psychological issue commonly experienced by juvenile inmates. In response to this issue, this study aims to examine the effect of religious coping on post-release anxiety among juvenile inmates at LPKA Class II Bandung. This research employed a quantitative causal method using simple linear regression analysis. The respondents consisted of 47 juvenile inmates who were approaching conditional release, selected through convenience sampling. Data collection was conducted using questionnaires, namely The Adolescent Religious Coping Scale (ARCS) and the Dark Future Anxiety Scale (DAS). The findings of this study indicate that religious coping does not have a significant effect on future anxiety after release among juvenile inmates at LPKA Class II Bandung
