INTERORGANIZATIONAL NETWORKS IN SLAUGHTERING AND TANNING INDUSTRIES: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS ACROSS FOUR REGIONAL DISTRICTS
In complex and turbulent environments, organizations frequently develop formal or informal relationship in order to work together to pursue goals, address common concerns, and/or attain mutually beneficial ends.
In the recent years, the number and significance of collaborative forms of organizing, including inter-organizational teams, partnership and networks, have increase tremendously.
The value of effective collaborative relationship as well as the complexities and challenges they present have been recognized by many researchers.
This chapter is aimed at analysing the inter-organizational networks of Abruzzo’s slaughtering firms and leather tanning firms belonging to the district of Igualada, S.Croce sull’Arno and Arzignano. The methodology approach adopted in this study is social network analysis (SNA), which represents a method of collecting and analysing data from multiple organizations that may be interacting with one other.
This chapter is structured as follows: first, we give an overview of the SNA and of the main network concepts employed in this analysis. Second, we present the data collected within the four districts surveyed. The subsequent sections contain the analysis and results achieved. We conclude with a brief discussion of our results
L'orizzonte epigrafico greco-latino di età Cesarina-augustea in Illiria meridionale e nell'Epiro
This contribution aims to investigate the epigraphic reflections of the Roman presence on the south-eastern shore of the Adriatic in the period in which Rome first imposed a real stable presence through the foundation of three colonies. At the end of the survey of the epigraphic documentation, we can state that one can correctly speak of a defined epigraphic habit, the result of the carry-over of the Italic tradition by the settlers of the three deductions. In particular, in the Caesarian/Augustan age, at the time of the arrival of the new citizens, a new language is constituted, which saw mixed the Hellenic substratum and the imported Roman elements in a hybrid form
Regulation of skeletal muscle AMP deaminase. Carbethoxylation of His-51 belonging to the zinc coordination sphere of the rabbit enzyme promotes its desensitization towards the inhibition by ATP
Background: Skeletal muscle AMP deaminase (AMPD1) regulates the concentration of adenine nucleotides during muscle contraction. We previously provided evidence that rabbit AMPD1 is composed by two HPRG 73 kDa subunits and two 85 kDa catalytic subunits with a dinuclear zinc site with an average of two histidine residues at each metal site. AMPD1 is mainly expressed in fast twitching fibers and is inhibited by ATP. The limited trypsinization of the 95-residue N-terminal domain of rabbit AMPD1 desensitizes the enzyme towards ATP inhibition at the optimal pH 6.5, but not at pH 7.1. Methods: The modified residues of rabbit AMPD1 after incubation with radioactive diethyl pyrocarbonate ([14C]DEP) causing the desensitization to inhibition by ATP at pH 7.1 have been identified by sequence analysis and MS analysis of the radioactive peptides liberated from the carbethoxylated enzyme by limited proteolysis with trypsin. Results: The study confirms the presence of a dinuclear zinc site in rabbit AMPD1 and shows that carbethoxylation of His-51 at the N-terminus of the catalytic subunit removes the inhibition of the enzyme by ATP at pH 7.1. Conclusions: The desensitization to ATP is due to the modification of His-51 of the Zn2 coordination sphere which is transduced in a conformational change of the enzyme C-terminus, where an ATP-binding site has been localized. General significance: The progress in the study of the complex regulation of rabbit AMPD1 that shares an identical amino acid sequence with the human enzyme is important in relation to the role of the enzyme during mammalian evolution

The potential of the LCT approaches in supporting economic choices at company level in the agri-food sector
INTRO: Despite the recent advancements in the development and implementation of Life Cycle Thinking (LCT) approaches, agri-food companies still seem to show a limited interest in the use of these
methodologies. On the other hand, distribution companies (for example, Wal-Mart, Tesco and others) and final consumers, especially in some markets, have become increasingly aware of environmental and social
issues. Also, a similar driver has come from international institutions (such as the OIV, which has been working on a specific protocol) and European ones (e.g.: European policies and the Emission Trading Scheme
under reform).
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this paper is to highlight the potential use of LCT methods and tools to support business decisions, which can have economic, social and environmental impacts, in the short and long term,
using the agri-food industry as a case study. In this way, we intend to contribute to the solution of the much-debated issue in the literature concerning the poor attractiveness of LCT approaches, above all E-LCA,
compared to other methods of environmental impact assessment.
CRITICAL ISSUES IN LCA:
- Difficulty of communicating the results of conventional LCA to unskilled end-users -- see how Carbon Footprint has been generally accepted, instead (Weidema et al, 2008);
- The costs that companies meet to perform the evaluation;
- Companies not feeling responsible for the stages which are not under their direct control (such as distribution).
- Also, the potential of the different approaches not being explicitly transmitted to the different users;
- The environmental component of sustainability being often assessed without emphasizing interrelations with economic and/or social aspects
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
