Abstract: This study examines how the relationship between gender language and ideology is constructed in media texts, and aims to interrogate a small number of articles taken from the most widely read online editions of national newspapers in Indonesia regarding online media reporting on the harassment of women in the "Ikan Asin" case. The focuses of this research are 1) how the women are displayed in the text. 2) How media displays texts, discursive practices that include the production and consumption of texts, and social practices. 3) What are the differences between the Mills and Fairlough critical discourse analysis models? The results of the study are that women are displayed positively even though the case they experience is negative. Text production is closely related to the ideology of journalists and the media as well as the audiences who consume the text. Both Mills and Fairclough's critical discourse analysis models have similarities and differences in analyzing texts. Key Words: Critical Discourse Analysis, Mills, Fairclough, Ikan Asin

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Collaborative Model in Teaching Linguistics (A Grounded Theory Study at Universitas Borneo Tarakan)

This study looks into collaborative techniques in linguistics education, focusing on fundamental concepts, principles, components, and the roles of many stakeholders in the educational process. The study demonstrates how collaborative models can improve linguistics education by ensuring active involvement and social interaction between students and teachers. This study employs a grounded theory methodology, which includes qualitative data gathering and analytical techniques, such as open, axial, and selective coding, to discover main themes and patterns. The interviews and discussions with professors and students from the English and Indonesian language departments are included in the research design, allowing for a thorough examination of their experiences and perspectives. Micro-linguistic theory, communicative skills, and collaborative techniques are essential to good linguistics teaching. Key findings suggest that when approaches are employed, and there is more activity, linguistic competency increases, and general educational outcomes improve. The findings spark curiosity about the role of instructor mediation, classroom management, and multimedia resources in improving collaboration. This study's outcomes suggest potential routes for future research on collaborative strategies in linguistics education, particularly with the use of technology and multimedia learning systems. Further research is needed to investigate the long-term effects of these strategies on student accomplishment and the viability of these models in various educational contexts

The Impact of Mobile Augmented Reality on Vocabulary Acquisition, Learner Engagement, and Experience in Higher Education

The primary objectives of this study were to (1) assess the effectiveness of a Mobile Augmented Reality (AR)-based English learning program and (2) provide a human-centered analysis of students lived experiences within this innovative pedagogical setting. This work fills a critical research gap where much of the existing literature on AR in language learning emphasizes quantifiable results at the expense of students' subjective experiences and challenges. Utilizing a convergent parallel mixed-methods design, this study quantified English proficiency improvements and explored student experiences (interviews/observations). 173 diverse students engaged with a Mobile AR program featuring interactive 3D visualizations and customized content to enhance overall English, vocabulary, and grammar skills. The primary outcomes revealed a statistically significant and practically substantial positive impact of the AR intervention across all English language proficiency measures (p < 0.001; Cohen's d > 1.95; N-gain 0.74-0.75). Qualitative findings indicated that Mobile AR significantly enhanced comprehension through visualization, substantially increased learning interest and immersion, and fostered a deeper understanding of English's practical relevance through major-specific content. However, students reported challenges, notably technical issues such as device compatibility problems and occasional unstable internet connectivity. Future research should prioritize optimizing AR integration strategies and infrastructure development for wider, sustainable pedagogical applicatio

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Vocational high school students\u27 literacy and creativity levels still need to be optimized through innovative and collaborative learning activities. This program aims to improve these competencies through the development of literary works based on mentoring and collaboration between lecturers, teachers, and students. This program is held at SMKN 1 Tanjung Palas Timur and focuses on literary works development as a tool to improve students\u27 literacy and creativity through community service programs. The program involved a hands-on, participatory framework that engaged students in active learning and collaborative experiences. Results from pre-test and post-test quantitative data showed improved student writing ability. Students’ creativity scores went from an average of 55 to 85, while structure scores increased from 60 to 80. The language use rose from 50 to 80, the emotional expression from 55 to 90, the theme depth from 60 to 85, and the readability from 65 to 90. In addition, these findings validate previous outcomes of mentoring on student literacy skills and students’ confidence in creative writing. Finally, the study results indicate that analogous efforts may be helpful in other classroom settings to support students in establishing literacy and creativity.

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
