To the popular mind - and most politicians - more democracy means more freedom. Not so, according to Fareed Zakaria, author of The Future of Freedom: Illiberal Democracy at Home and Abroad, which is described as “one of the most important books on global political trends to appear in the past decade.” Widely respected for his ability to spot economic and political trends around the world, Zakaria will shed light on the complex interaction between economics and politics, on America’s role in the world - particularly pertinent with allied forces attempting to bring freedom to Iraq by imposing democratic standards, and on the way in which democracy is changing every aspect of our lives - from economics and technology to politics and culture

The Age of Revolutions," by Fareed Zakaria, published in 2024, focuses on the connection between past revolutions (in the Netherlands, England, the United States, and France) and current transformations, which he describes as revolutionary. The author divides history into two traditions: a Dutch and Anglo-Saxon revolutionary tradition that led to liberalism, and another rooted in the French Revolution, which resulted in authoritarian "illiberal" or populist regimes. According to Zakaria, France represents a sort of original sin, whose consequences have shaped contemporary "revolutions." The "birthmark" of French illiberalism is evident in scenarios as diverse as Lenin\u27s Russia, Trump\u27s United States, and contemporary China. The review criticizes the book for its superficiality and omissions – notably the complete disregard of the impact of Caribbean and South American revolutions – and for the dishonest use of historiography referenced throughout the book."L\u27Ère des Révolutions," de Fareed Zakaria, publié en 2024, a pour fil conducteur la relation entre les révolutions passées (aux Pays-Bas, en Angleterre, aux États-Unis et en France) et les transformations actuelles, qu\u27il qualifie de révolutionnaires.

Fareed Zakaria is one of the most influential US public intellectuals. He is the editor of the Newsweek International, his political magazine Fareed Zakaria GPS is broadcasted on the CNN and is a regular guest on the World Economic Forums in Davos. He was born in India and later studied Political Science at Yale and Harvard, where he received his Ph.D. These references determine him as the suitable analyst of the current global political and economic transformation that he elaborates in his book. Author analyzes the rise of new centers of power like China and India in the context of economic and cultural globalization and their consequences for the American global position. Zakaria argues that America has to adjust its foreign and domestic policy to the rise of new powers whose competitiveness challenge American position of the last world superpower. Thus, book is extremely relevant for the contemporary analysis of the most interesting political and economic developments in the world. Zakaria develops lucid and intelligent account of the globalized world and the US place in it. His logic is smoothly elaborated with lots of historical analogies and unique mix of foreign policy, economy and cultural studies that provides holistic but at the same time sharp insight of the nowadays world. What gives this book an added value is an approach that goes beyond the sole considerations of the US global role like in the works of Kevin Kagan or Zbigniew Brzezinski. Zakaria's style resembles Thomas Friedman's analysis of globalization; just he adds more focus on the official US policy. Zakaria's book is more relevant now with the foreign policy shift of the Obama administration that has deepened ties with China, Russia and opened new stage in the relations with the Muslim world. However, it is a pity Zakaria did not analyze other centers of powers and it would be interesting to hear his opinion about the impact of the global recession on the power shift in the post-American world. Still, despite holding a pro-American stand, his analysis gives deeper insight about the temporary world. Therefore, I strongly recommend this book to students, researches and scholars of international relations as well as policy makers worldwide

Stylistic study of uniformity of narrative language in the Tigers on the tenth day by Zakaria Tamer

    No full text
Literary critics interpret linguistic phenomena through the study of styles and extend their research on the words and constructions related to environmental factors and literary innovations. Ultimately these words and constructions are considered as a particular style. The study of the methods of writers is called stylistics and a statistical approach branches out which quantitatively examines Linguistic phenomena within a statistical framework. There are other approaches to stylistics such as psychological and practical approaches. In general, there is a good context in poetry and fiction and in particular in the works of the Syrian novelist Zakaria Tamer, which leads researchers to follow styles. Analysis of the data from tables and using manual statistical method proved that he has a consisant style in applying uniform linguistic phenomena. Hence, the uniform style of the author in the Tigers on the tenth day was studied. We found that he has resorted to a uniform style (past tense verb + preposition + genitive + intermittent adjective in type and number). As a result, the author sometimes deviates from the uniform method and diversify the literary work to meet special demands of the story. The main reason of uniformity is speech, especially in frequent use of words such as "al-qoul, al-soval, al-sout, al-lahja. " Continuous study of his works makes it clear that this issue is caused by either vocabulary deficiency or the unconscious mind of Zakaria Tamer. If he was aware of uniformity of language, he would have definitely avoided getting caught by the monotonous vocabulary

This thesis is about to design aluminium can crusher for home purpose usage. By referring to the in-vention of aluminium can crusher, there is a fact that cannot be denied that recyclable products such as aluminium cans have become popular in the beverage industry. But, there is a problem when alu-minium cans become too much and when returning to the recycling station, consumers usually send in a bulk and inconvenience condition. Nowadays, the home-based consumer typically enjoys the cans or beverages from a recyclable can but they are not aware about the recycling processes and disposing the empty cans. For some of the consumer, the task of crushing cans for disposal in the recycling bin can be time consuming for them. In order to cope with this problem, the design of this simple and portable can crusher is used to solve this problem. In designing stage, the author used the high technology design software CATIA to design it virtually before fabricate the desired design. Besides that, this device also friendly user because the user did not have to worry about the spaced required and it is easily to carry anywhere. It is only need a space about 300 mm x 200 mm area. The material used to fabricate its prototype is made from aluminium. So the weight of this device is not too heavy to remove and can avoid corrosion. Furthermore, all the parts involved are assembling by using screws to make it easy to resemble and dissemble. Besides that, this device is fully mechanical operated and can be operated in any condition. By the design of this device, it is hoping that the consumer can save their time, money and also can increase their awareness about the environment
