La solidarietà fondamentale. Liber amicorum Giuseppe Acocella

/[English]:More than a reconstruction of the coordinates of his research, the purpose of this collection is the testimony of a community that approached Giuseppe Acocella, recognizing the prestige of his magisterium. His interests, so diversified, would not have lent themselves to an exegetical reconstruction: rather, we have drawn from the"alive" of his reflections, to the extent that he was able to inspire everyone's research. Moral philosopher, philosopher of the law, philosopher of politics, he was formed starting from the teaching of Capograssi and preferred to direct his reflection on the Lebenswelt, rather than on that formal dimension that would have allowed us a dogmatic reading. Starting from individual inclinations, we wanted to testify to the closeness and significance that Giuseppe Acocella's teaching has played in the search for each one: the topics addressed, which question civil life in its formal and material aspects, reflect the multifaceted tension that only a masterful thinker can inspire

Vascular endothelial growth factor expression in the pathological angiogenesis in oral squamous cell carcinoma

Tumor angiogenesis and tumor progression to late oral squamous cell carcinoma are closely related. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), a heparin-binding growth factor with mitogenic activity specific for vascular endothelial cells, regulates key events of the pathological angiogenesis involved in the metabolic functions of malignant tissues. The level of high-affinity tyrosine kinase receptor for VEGF, flt, in tumor endothelial cells in vivo is seen upregulated, supporting the role of VEGF as a potential signaling tumor angiogenesis axis in vivo and sustaining the notion that paracrine mechanisms are responsible for the regulation of tumor angiogenesis. The expression of VEGFs is increased in the processes of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) progression and proliferation. Vascular endothelial growth factor C (VEGF-C)/VEGF3 expression induced by chemokine CCL4 is connected to lymph node metastasis in OSCC. This chapter was aimed to summarize and analyze the findings on the role of vascular endothelial growth factor in oral squamous cell carcinoma and briefly discuss the potential of vascular endothelial growth factor that targets this pathway as treatment for OSCC

Early mandibular canine-lateral incisor transposition: case report

    No full text
Purpose. The main aim of the present study is to present a case of mandibular transposition between lateral incisor and canine in a paediatric patient. Materials and methods. A fixed multibracket orthodontic treatment was performed by means of a modified welded arch as to correct the transposition and obtaining a class I functional and symmetrical occlusion, also thanks to the early diagnosis of the eruption anomaly. Results. Our case report shows that a satisfactory treatment of mandibular transpositions is obtained when detected at an early stage of the tooth development. Conclusions. The main treatment options to be taken into consideration in case of a mandibular transposition are two: correcting the transposition or aligning it leaving the dental elements in their transposed order; in both cases, the followups show a stable condition, maintained without relapses. Several factors, such as age of the patient, occlusion, aesthetics, patient’s collaboration, periodontal support and duration of treatment have to be considered as to prevent potential damage to dental elements and support appliances. The choice between the two treatment approaches for mandibular lateral incisor/canine transpositions mainly depends on the time the anomaly is detected

Evolutionary pattern recognition for measurement of vehicle emission factors in critical driving conditions

    No full text
A research project on the measurement of emission factors in critical driving conditions arising from a cooperation among University of Sannio, Istituto Motori of CNR, and some companies of Italian Regione Campania is started. In particular, in this paper, a procedure of automatic feature extraction and data classification of vehicle driving sequences by means of Wavelet analysis and Cultural Algorithms is proposed. The procedure improves the lack of sensitivity of the state-of-the-art statistical methods to variations of vehicles instantaneous kinematic parameters (e.g. speed, acceleration) through a simple heuristic link between vehicle speed and road traffic data. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    No full text
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Perché non possiamo non dirci eurocentrici: una nota sull’approccio alla World History della Scuola di Cambridge

One of the chief sources of the international revival of world history, which has been going on for about thirty years, must certainly be seen in the reconceptualization in a polycentric key that has invested, in the same period, the field of studies dealing with “The Expansion of Europe”. Focusing first on the founding fathers of the Cambridge School of imperial history – John Gallagher and Ronald Robinson –, then on the innovative work of their today’s heirs, this essay outlines a synthetic profile of this historiographical and academical tradition. It aims to show how the most recent developments of the expansionist paradigm, as represented by John Darwin’s book After Tamerlane (2007), can provide a way out from the false alternative in which present debates about the role of Europe in the history of the modern and contemporary world often risk to become entangled – i.e. the polemical demand of “provincializing Europe” and the uncritical re-proposal, in reaction to the radical assault against Eurocentrism, of a European centrality which is undoubtedly in need of a profound rethinking
