Interpretation and performance of three orchestral compositions by Gabriela Lena Frank: Escaramuza, Elegia Andian, and Three Latin American Dances

    No full text
This work presents interpretative and performance suggestions for three of Gabriela Lena Frank’s orchestral works: Escaramuza (2010), Elegia Andina (2000), and Three Latin American Dances (2004). Frank’s compositions frequently include programmatic elements that reference other well-known compositions, and she incorporates melodies, rhythms, timbres, instrumentation, and performance techniques characteristic of her Peruvian cultural heritage. Examples of these elements are presented from a lecture recital format to demonstrate how performance practice and conducting decisions—in rehearsal and performance—can be utilized to honor the composer’s expressed intent and overcome various technical ensemble and conducting challenges. An overview of the cultural contextual elements includes Harawi and Kachampa dance structures. The author also suggests methods for presenting elements that affect the timbre and instrumental scoring specific to each work, for example the Andean Zampoña. This research provides performers with a resource to deepen their score study, and seeks to inspire more people to perform the music of Gabriela Lena Frank.D. A

Gabriela Mistral: narrações, nostalgia e vida desde o autoexílio

    No full text
Gabriela Mistral, a Chilean professor, writer and intellectual (1889-1957), served as a Chilean consul in Brazil between the 1940s and 1945. This work studies especially her texts known as “Recados” (Notes), trying to understand the author as a narrator, in a Benjaminian sense (1994) - her writings present themselves as amalgam of experiences and, in metaphorical terms, as forms of resistance, since they worked as a way to prolong the life of the author in nostalgia and the displacement of self-exile. It was also through the narrations that Mistral generated bonds with others and committed herself to the production of new generations - in this case, in a symbolic way, as a teacher, intellectual and “homeland accountant”.Gabriela Mistral, professora, escritora e intelectual chilena (1889-1957), atuou como consulesa do Chile no Brasil entre os anos 1940 e 1945.

Gabriela Mistral and the rural education

    No full text
This text proposes to analyze some of the experiences of Gabriela Mistral (1889-1957), Chilean teacher, writer, intellectual and diplomatic, with rural education. It will address her childhood in northern Chile, her relationship with Pedro Aguirre Cerda —president of that country between 1938 and 1941— and her travels and work in Mexico, where she met a broad concept of education, and in Brazil, where she approached referents intellectuals committed to education and public policy. These experiences produced changes in the author, leaving marks in her work and writing, leading her to build a concept of education that valued traditional and rural knowledge, transmitting, through narratives, her own experiences and those of other subjects excluded by modernity: children, women and indigenous people, among others. All these experiences were amalgamated into a particular genre of Mistralian writing called “Recados” (notes) which, according to the author’s words, included her “rural tone”, her most personal, with what she lived and what she was going to die, and which formed part of her commitment to rural education in their home country, putting “useful” information into circulation in this field.Sepúlveda Vásquez, Carola Gabriela. Aspects of synthetic personalization reflected in travel journalism: A phraseological approach

    No full text
This study shows how the commercial orientation of travel journalism may be reflected and reproduced by the pervasive usage of synthetic personalization. This is a mass communication technique simulating an informal, face-to-face interaction between the authors and their readerships with the goal of constructing a consumption community characterised by a shared lifestyle. This promotional strategy is studied by means of a corpus-driven phraseological approach and shown to be notably productive. Two groups of phraseologies are identified and then the most frequent of each group is analysed to show their discursive functions with respect to the market-driven nature of the register

SIMPLE ENTRAPMENT OF ALCALASE IN DIFFERENT SILICA XEROGELS USING THE TWO STEPS SOL-GEL METHOD

    No full text
The present study has focused on the entrapment of Alcalase in different xerogels obtained by using various molar ratios of methyltriethoxysilane, dimethyldietoxisilane and tetraethoxysilane. Silica and their derivatives were characterized with regard to specific surface area (nitrogen adsorbtion), chemical composition (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR)), weight loss upon heating (thermogravimetric analysis (TGA)) and catalytic activity

El Superrealismo De Tala, De Gabriela Mistral

    No full text
In a previous publication of the author ("Matrimonio de Sol y Cordillera" (A Marriage of Sun and Mountain) 1988), there is a attempt to elucidate that "super-realism" found in "Sol del Trópico" (Tropic Sun), and "Cordillera" (Mountain), two poems included in Gabriela Mistral's "Tala". The following essay goes over the same idea of the abundant presence of super-realistic elements in many sections of the aforesaid volume, but this time the author tries to higlight some of these elements in some other sections of the book
