A TÉCNICA NARRATIVA DO CONTRAPONTO NO ROMANCE CAMINHOS CRUZADOS, DE ERICO VERISSIMO
The article presents an approach of the way Erico Verissimo has used the narrative technique of counterpoint on elaboration of Caminhos Cruzados novel, adapting it to the goals of his own literary project and to the context of Brazilian Literature in the 30. The counterpoint is an imported technique from music that allows an elaboration of a fragmented and simultaneous narrative composed by many parallel intrigues and characters which independent of one another. Through this narrative technique, orchestrated by an omniscient narrator who has a prime vision of internal and external events of its characters, the author offers to reader a narrative that walks for all social groups of a big city, reveling the hypocrisy of some bourgeois class divisions and the misery and the struggle for survival of lower and poor social class.O artigo apresenta uma abordagem do modo como Erico Verissimo utilizou a técnica narrativa do contraponto na elaboração do romance Caminhos Cruzados, adaptando-a aos objetivos de seu projeto literário e ao contexto da Literatura Brasileira da década de 30.
This dissertation is an analytical study on the basis interpretivist, and its goal is to analyze the generation of the dual self-understood as consciousness multiplying itself -between the character of Rodrigo Terra Cambara, and his son Floriano Terra Cambara, as narrated in the Erico Verissmo’s trilogy O tempo e o vento, more specifically retreated in the books O retrato and O arquipélago. We based our assumption on the fact that the author gave certain emphasis on the main character, in an attempt to distance him from being a mere action figure. We can ascertain that this southern Brazilian author (Gaucho) through his literary proficiency, was able to complete the difficult task of representing modern man’s identity crisis, where the second self is the product of the fragmented self. Amongst the scholars that best support this subject, of greater importance were the works of Mikhail M. Bakhtin and Volochinov, whose papers concentrate more on dialogism, ideology, individual and collective discourse, and also focus on the question of identity. As a theoretical support for better understanding of the second self, we reviewed the studies of authors that bear a philosophical basis such as Clement Rosset, and also others devoted to the study of psychology and psychoanalysis such as Otto Rank, Sigmund Freud, Carl Gustav Jung and C.F. Keppler. Although many of the studies characterize the subject of the second self in different manners, the overall concept ascertain similarities on the subject of alterity, and therefore, we were able to update Erico Verissimo’s literature realm and conceptualize in a historical manner the significance of second self, maintaining in its essence, the meaning of one self’s identity search
Enlaces: memória e subjetividades no acervo Jorge Amado
Abstract : My dissertation´s main objective is to present the result of the affective relations constituted and apprehended from Jorge Amado´s collection (NuLIME). My subjectivity is connected to the material memory of the letters destined or posted by two communists: Juan and Joaquim. Reading them has enabled me to reframe the questions of authorship and epistolary literature. The work was partially presented as letters. The writing, classified in between fictional and factual, refers to the social and political context and to the narrative from communists and political persecuted who lived this period of Brazilian intellectual, social, political and literary life
Identifying the ideal weekly training load for in-game performance in an elite Brazilian soccer team
Introduction: The purpose of this study was to investigate the ideal training load to be applied during periods of fixture congestion to ensure an adequate dose-response effect for performance maintenance. Methods: Match performance data and corresponding pre-match training load sessions (both N = 498 match performance cases and training-block session cases) were collected (with the catapult system, VECTOR7) from 36 male professional soccer players (23.5 +/- 5.2 years; 178 +/- 4 cm; 75.5 +/- 6.0 kg) belonging to the Brazilian First Division team during the 2022 season. The following data were collected in match and training sessions: jump, acceleration, deceleration, and change of direction (COD); running distance producing metabolic power at different intensities (>20, >20-35, >35-45, >45-55, and >55 W kg(-1)), total distance (m), relative distance (m/min), running distance at different speeds (>20, >25, and >30 km/h), number of sprints (running >25 km/h), and maximum speed (km/h). Mixed linear model (MLM), decision tree regression (DTR), and cluster K means model (SPSS v.26) approach were performed to identify the most critical variables (and their respective load) in the training sessions that could explain the athlete's match performance. Results: MLM and DTR regression show that training load significantly affects game performance in a specific way. According to the present data, an interference phenomenon can occur when a high load of two different skills (running in a straight line vs COD, deceleration, and jumping) is applied in the same training block of the week. The cluster approach, followed by a chi-squared test, identified significant associations between training load and athlete match performance in a dose-dependent manner. Discussion: The high load values described here have a beneficial effect on match performance, despite the interference between stimuli discussed above. We present a positive training load from a congested season from the Brazilian First Division team. The study suggests that an interference effect occurs when high physical training loads are applied to different specific physical skills throughout the season. The author(s) declare financial support was received for the research, authorship, and/or publication of this article. The virtual image : Brazilian literature in English translation
The
aim of this thesis is to
examine
how the virtual
image
of Brazil
and
its literature is
constructed
in the Anglo-American world. To this
end, a survey of
Brazilian literary
works
in English translation was
carried out.
Having
gathered this data, it became
possible to establish
correlations
between the historical
moments when such translations
were made, when their number
increased,
and the events occurring at
those times in the international
panorama, as well as to look into the
role of sponsors, publishers and translators in the
selection and
production of such translations.
The data
also allowed a profile of
Brazilian literary
works
in
English translation to be drawn. It became
possible to suggest that
such works
fall into four
main categories:
`authorial
works',
'topical
works',
`ambassadorial
works'
and `consumer-oriented
works'.
In
order
to look
more closely
into how the translation process
has helped to
shape
the
virtual
image
of Brazilian literary
works
in
the Anglo-American world, an analysis of a sample of
translations
of
such works was made. Included in this
sample were
the translations
of works
by Machado de Asis, by Indianist
and
Regionalist
wirters,
culminating
in
an examination of translations of
GuimarAes Rosa's
works.
Having looked
at these aspects of
the translation
process, what
remained
to be done
was to investigate
to what extent
Brazilian
literary
works
in English translation
are read
by the English-
speaking public.
To this
end, a survey of availability and
library
readership was undertaken. Finally,
a reading experiment was carried
out
in
which native speakers of
English
were asked to read the short
story
'A terceira

by GuimarAes Rosa.
The
conclusion attempts to pull all these threads together and
to indicate directions for further

Diversification history of clown tree frogs in Neotropical rainforests (Anura, Hylidae, Dendropsophus leucophyllatus group)
General consensus emphasizes that no single biological process can explain the patterns of species’ distributions and diversification in the Neotropics. Instead, the interplay of several processes across space and time must be taken into account. Here we investigated the phylogenetic relationships and biogeographic history of tree frogs in the Dendropsophus leucophyllatus species group (Amphibia: Hylidae), which is distributed across Amazonia and the Atlantic rainforests. Using Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and double digest restriction-site associated DNA (ddRADseq), we inferred phylogenetic relationships, species limits, and temporal and geographic patterns of diversification relative to the history of these biomes. Our results indicate that the D. leucophyllatus species group includes at least 14 independent lineages, which are currently arranged into ten described species. Therefore, a significant portion of species in the group are still unnamed. Different processes were associated to the group diversification history. For instance, the Andes uplift likely caused allopatric speciation for Cis-Andean species, whereas it may also be responsible for changes in the Amazonian landscape triggering parapatric speciation by local adaptation to ecological factors. Meanwhile, Atlantic Forest ancestors unable to cross the dry diagonal biomes after rainforest's retraction, evolved in isolation into different species. Diversification in the group began in the early Miocene, when connections between Atlantic Forest and the Andes (Pacific Dominion) by way of a south corridor were possible. The historical scenario in Amazonia, characterized by several speciation events and habitat heterogeneity, helped promoting diversification, resulting in the highest species diversity for the group. This marked species diversification did not happen in Atlantic Forest, where speciation is very recent (late Pliocene and Pleistocene), despite its remarkable climatic heterogeneity. © 2020 Elsevier Inc
Systematics and biogeography of the Automolus infuscatus complex (Aves; Furnariidae): Cryptic diversity reveals western Amazonia as the origin of a transcontinental radiation
A revision of the avian Neotropical genus Automolus and the Furnariidae family points to the paraphyly of A. infuscatus and reveals a species complex comprising A. infuscatus, A. ochrolaemus, A. paraensis, A. leucophthalmus, A. lammi and A. subulatus, the latter historically classified in the genus Hyloctistes. Detailed knowledge of the taxonomy, geographic distribution, phylogenetic relationship and divergence times of a taxon allows exploration of its evolutionary history and the testing of different scenarios of diversification. In this context, we studied the A. infuscatus complex using molecular data in order to unveil its cryptic diversity and reveal its evolutionary history. For that we sequenced two mitochondrial (ND2 and cytb) and three nuclear markers (G3PDH, ACO, Fib7) for 302 individuals belonging to all species in the complex and most described subspecies. Our analysis supports the paraphyly of A. infuscatus, indicating the existence of at least two distinct clades not closely related. The remaining species were all recovered as monophyletic. Notwithstanding, a well-structured intraspecific diversity was found with 19 lineages suggesting substantial cryptic diversity within the described species. A. subulatus was recovered within the complex, corroborating its position inside the genus. In spite of the high congruence between distributions of different lineages, with several sister lineages currently separated by the same barriers, the temporal incongruence between divergences over the same barriers reveals a complex evolutionary history. While older events might be related to the emergence of barriers such as the Andes and major Amazonian rivers, younger events suggest dispersal after the consolidation of those barriers. Our analysis suggests that the complex had its origin around 6 million years (Ma) and inhabited Western Amazonia in Late Miocene-Early Pliocene. Considering the riparian habit of species in its sister clade, the rise and early diversifications of the complex may be related to the establishment of terra firme forests as it changed from a floodplain to a fluvial system. The late Amazonian colonization by A. subulatus and A. ochrolaemus lineages may have been hampered by the previous existence of well established A. infuscatus lineages in the region. © 2016 Elsevier Inc
Supergranular turbulence in the quiet Sun: Lagrangian coherent structures
The quiet Sun exhibits a wealth of magnetic activities that are fundamental for our understanding of solar magnetism. The magnetic fields in the quiet Sun are observed to evolve coherently, interacting with each other to form prominent structures as they are advected by photospheric flows. The aim of this paper is to study supergranular turbulence by detecting Lagrangian coherent structures (LCS) based on the horizontal velocity fields derived from Hinode intensity images at disc centre of the quiet Sun on 2010 November 2. LCS act as transport barriers and are responsible for attracting/repelling the fluid elements and swirling motions in a finite time. Repelling/attracting LCS are found by computing the forward/backward finite-time Lyapunov exponent (FTLE), and vortices are found by the Lagrangian-averaged vorticity deviation method. We show that the Lagrangian centres and boundaries of supergranular cells are given by the local maximum of the forward and backward FTLE, respectively. The attracting LCS expose the location of the sinks of photospheric flows at supergranular junctions, whereas the repelling LCS interconnect the Lagrangian centres of neighbouring supergranular cells. Lagrangian transport barriers are found within a supergranular cell and from one cell to other cells, which play a key role in the dynamics of internetwork and network magnetic elements. Such barriers favour the formation of vortices in supergranular junctions. In particular, we show that the magnetic field distribution in the quiet Sun is determined by the combined action of attracting/repelling LCS and vortices.© 2019 The Author(s) Published by Oxford University Press on behalf of the Royal Astronomical SocietySSAS acknowledges financial support from agency Coordenacao de aperfeicoamento de Pessoal de nivel Superior (CAPES 88882.316962/2019-01, Brazil).
