Analyse intelligente de la qualité d'expérience (QoE) dans les réseaux de diffusion de contenu web et mutimédia
Today user experience is becoming a reliable indicator for service providers and telecommunication operators to convey overall end to end system functioning. Moreover, to compete for a prominent market share, different network operators and service providers should retain and increase the customers’ subscription. To fulfil these requirements they require an efficient Quality of Experience (QoE) monitoring and estimation. However, QoE is a subjective metric and its evaluation is expensive and time consuming since it requires human participation. Therefore, there is a need for an objective tool that can measure the QoE objectively with reasonable accuracy in real-Time. As a first contribution, we analyzed the impact of network conditions on Video on Demand (VoD) services. We also proposed an objective QoE estimation tool that uses fuzzy expert system to estimate QoE from network layer QoS parameters. As a second contribution, we analyzed the impact of MAC layer QoS parameters on VoD services over IEEE 802.11n wireless networks. We also proposed an objective QoE estimation tool that uses random neural network to estimate QoE from the MAC layer perspective. As our third contribution, we analyzed the effect of different adaption scenarios on QoE of adaptive bit rate streaming. We also developed a web based subjective test platform that can be easily integrated in a crowdsourcing platform for performing subjective tests. As our fourth contribution, we analyzed the impact of different web QoS parameters on web service QoE. We also proposed a novel machine learning algorithm i.e. fuzzy rough hybrid expert system for estimating web service QoE objectivelyDe nos jours, l’expérience de l'utilisateur appelé en anglais « User Experience » est devenue l’un des indicateurs les plus pertinents pour les fournisseurs de services ainsi que pour les opérateurs de télécommunication pour analyser le fonctionnement de bout en bout de leurs systèmes (du terminal client, en passant par le réseaux jusqu’à l’infrastructure des services etc.). De plus, afin d’entretenir leur part de marché et rester compétitif, les différents opérateurs de télécommunication et les fournisseurs de services doivent constamment conserver et accroître le nombre de souscription des clients. Pour répondre à ces exigences, ils doivent disposer de solutions efficaces de monitoring et d’estimation de la qualité d'expérience (QoE) afin d’évaluer la satisfaction de leur clients. Cependant, la QoE est une mesure qui reste subjective et son évaluation est coûteuse et fastidieuse car elle nécessite une forte participation humaine (appelé panel de d’évaluation). Par conséquent, la conception d’un outil qui peut mesurer objectivement cette qualité d'expérience avec une précision raisonnable et en temps réel est devenue un besoin primordial qui constitue un challenge intéressant à résoudre. Comme une première contribution, nous avons analysé l'impact du comportement d’un réseau sur la qualité des services de vidéo à la demande (VOD). Nous avons également proposé un outil d'estimation objective de la QoE qui utilise le système expert basé sur la logique floue pour évaluer la QoE à partir des paramètres de qualité de service de la couche réseau. Dans une deuxième contribution, nous avons analysé l'impact des paramètres QoS de couche MAC sur les services de VoD dans le cadre des réseaux sans fil IEEE 802.11n. Nous avons également proposé un outil d'estimation objective de la QoE qui utilise le réseau aléatoire de neurones pour estimer la QoE dans la perspective de la couche MAC. Pour notre troisième contribution, nous avons analysé l'effet de différents scénarios d'adaptation sur la QoE dans le cadre du streaming adaptatif au débit. Nous avons également développé une plate-Forme Web de test subjectif qui peut être facilement intégré dans une plate-Forme de crowd-Sourcing pour effectuer des tests subjectifs. Finalement, pour notre quatrième contribution, nous avons analysé l'impact des différents paramètres de qualité de service Web sur leur QoE. Reputation for Vertical Handover decision making
International audience; To meet the continuously increasing demands and requirements of mobile users, next generation wireless systems are more and more relaying on the coexistence of heterogeneous wireless networks. The objective is to provide any time and anywhere connectivity to users. One of the main challenges in such a heterogeneous environment is mobility management, including network selection and Vertical Handover (VHO) procedures. In this paper, we propose a VHO management solution combining the use of reputation as a Quality of Experience (QoE) indicator for fast decision-making and the Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) as a mobility protocol. This reputation-based Vertical Handover solution operates on the previous observed experiences of users within the different available networks to make fast decisions and uses the SCTP protocol that provides multihoming facilities. On Subjective Quality Assessment of Adaptive Video Streaming via Crowdsourcing and Laboratory Based Experiments
Video streaming services are offered over the Internet and since the service providers do not have full control over the network conditions all the way to the end user, streaming technologies have been developed to maintain the quality of service in these varying network conditions i.e. so called adaptive video streaming. In order to cater for users’ Quality of Experience (QoE) requirements, HTTP based adaptive streaming solutions of video services have become popular. However, the keys to ensure the users a good QoE with this technology is still not completely understood. User QoE feedback is therefore instrumental in improving this understanding. Controlled laboratory based perceptual quality experiments that involve a panel of human viewers are considered to be the most valid method of the assessment of QoE. Besides laboratory based subjective experiments, crowdsourcing based subjective assessment of video quality is gaining popularity as an alternative method. This article presents insights into a study that investigates perceptual preferences of various adaptive video streaming scenarios through crowdsourcing based and laboratory based subjective assessment. The major novel contribution of this study is the application of Paired Comparison based subjective assessment in a crowdsourcing environment. The obtained results provide some novel indications, besides confirming the earlier published trends, of perceptual preferences for adaptive scenarios of video streaming. Our study suggests that in a network environment with fluctuations in the bandwidth, a medium or low video bitrate which can be kept constant is the best approach. Moreover, if there are only a few drops in bandwidth, one can choose a medium or high bitrate with a single or few buffering events.Open access</p
Enabling Data Marketplaces with Multi-Party Computation (MPC): An Exploratory Study investigating the Implication of the Maturation of Multi-Party Computation (MPC) technology to the Architecture and the Threat Landscape of the Data Marketplaces
The emergence of the Data Marketplaces is the latest iteration in the phenomenon of data-driven transformation of the world. Data marketplaces have emerged as a new form of data-driven business models which enable trading of data between the data owners/providers and data consumers by providing the necessary technological and non-technological infrastructure. These features present an alternative to the cumbersome logistics currently involved in searching, buying and selling data; thus, simplify the data supply chains between the data-driven business entities. However, they suffer to take off into mainstream success because of a myriad of reasons. Of all the reasons, 2 of them are focused in this thesis. Firstly, the difficulty involved in architecturally enabling a data marketplace platform as the prospective enabling technologies are still immature. Secondly, the uncertainty associated with the commodification of data which comprises of the intellectual property enforcement of data (data ownership), privacy and confidentiality breach (threats), regulatory ignorance (implication of GDPR), reluctance of businesses from participating because of the previous reasons et cetera. This reason is collectively referred as due to the uncertainty around the threat landscape of the data marketplaces. Multi-Party Computation (MPC) technology provide a solution to these problems. Through its capabilities to preserve the confidentiality of data architecturally and thereby securing the interests of the data actors with respect to the uncertainty of the threat landscape around data, MPC can enable safe and secure data sharing between data actors. This characteristic of MPC can help data marketplaces to overcome their challenges and foster their realisation. However, since MPC cannot handle the scale of real-life application, it is not mature enough yet to be incorporated into real-life data marketplaces. An EU funded project called SafeDEED: Safe Data-Enabled Economic Development, proposes to overcome the scalability issue and intends to achieve the maturation of MPC for real-life application. Estimation of video QoE from MAC parameters in wireless network: A Random Neural Network approach
Study of Neck Circumference as a New Anthropometric Indicator for Prediction of Diabetes Mellitus
Introduction: Overweight and obesity are the risk factors for metabolic syndrome. This study aimed to show that neck circumference is a simple tool to identify the overweight and obesity as a new anthropometric index and association with type 2 diabetes. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study with a total of 246 participants, 123 of whom had diabetes mellitus, and the same numbers were non-diabetics, adjusted for weight and height in both groups. Means with standard deviation were used for neck and waist circumferences, body mass index, and blood sugar, and the Pearson correlation test was applied to identify the association. A comparison of means was done by the student ‘t\u27 test in parametric data within the two groups. Results: The mean neck circumference, body mass index of diabetes and non-diabetes participants were 38.0±3.0 cm, 28.5±2.6 and 36.6±3.2 kg/m2, 27.4±3.1 kg/m2 respectively. In diabetic patients, mean neck and waist circumference, blood sugar were higher than in nondiabetic patients and was significantly correlated with body mass index (r=0.747, p<0.001), waist circumference (r=0.635, p<0.001), systolic and diastolic blood pressure (r=0.740, p<0.001 and r=0.619, p<0.001 respectively), fasting and post prandial blood sugar (r=0.275, p=0.002 and r=0.307, p<0.001respectively) and glycated hemoglobin (r=0.220, p=0.014, n=123). In nondiabetic patients, glycated hemoglobin was negatively correlated. Conclusion: This study suggested that neck circumference is a simple, reliable, and appropriate new anthropometric tool to evaluate obesity, overweight, and the risk of metabolic disorders.
