LE NOTIFICAZIONI CIVILI NELLA RIFORMA CARTABIA

    No full text
In civil proceedings service by certified electronic mail is developing to such a point that, in a very large number of cases, it has become mandatory for lawyers when the recipient is obliged to have a digital domicile (e.g. companies, or persons registered in professional registers) or when, even without being obliged to do so, a person (including a natural person) has elected his or her own digital domicile registered in a special public directory. The article provides a critical evaluation and interpretive analysis of the new rules introduced by the so-called Cartabia reform on a topic of such particular interest to highlight its strengths, weaknesses, contradictions, inconsistencies and/or other important issues. The author comes to the conclusion that the objective of exclusively electronic notifications can only be achieved when a general obligation of digital domiciliation for all citizens is established, which is still missing. To achieve this result, however, it would be necessary to adopt suitable solutions to sanction overloading of the certified mailbox

Gastrointestinal functions after laparoscopic right colectomy with intracorporeal anastomosis: a pilot randomized clinical trial on effects of abdominal drain, prolonged antibiotic prophylaxis, and D3 lymphadenectomy with complete mesocolic excision

    No full text
purpose: routine use of abdominal drain or prolonged antibiotic prophylaxis is no longer part of current clinical practice in colorectal surgery. nevertheless, in patients undergoing laparoscopic right hemicolectomy with intracorporeal anastomosis (ICA), it may reduce perioperative abdominal contamination. furthermore, in cancer patients, prolonged surgery with extensive dissection such as central vascular ligation and complete mesocolon excision with D3 lymphadenectomy (altogether radical right colectomy RRC) is called responsible for affecting postoperative ileus. the aim was to evaluate postoperative resumption of gastrointestinal functions in patients undergoing right hemicolectomy for cancer with ICA and standard D2 dissection or RRC, with or without abdominal drain and prolonged antibiotic prophylaxis. methods: monocentric factorial parallel arm randomized pilot trial including all consecutive patients undergoing laparoscopic right hemicolectomy and ICA for cancer, in 20 months. patients were randomized on a 1:1:1 ratio to receive abdominal drain, prolonged antibiotic prophylaxis or neither (I level), and 1:1 to receive RRC or D2 colectomy (II level). patients were not blinded. the primary aim was the resumption of gastrointestinal functions (time to first gas and stool, time to tolerated fluids and food). secondary aims were length of stay and complications’ rate. clinicalTrials.gov no. NCT04977882. results: fifty-seven patients were screened; according to sample size, 36 were randomized, 12 for each arm for postoperative management, and 18 for each arm according to surgical techniques. a difference in time to solid diet favored the group without drain or antibiotic independently from standard or RRC. furthermore, when patients were divided with respect to surgical technique and into matched cohorts, no differences were seen for primary and secondary outcomes. conclusion: abdominal drainage and prolonged antibiotic prophylaxis in patients undergoing right hemicolectomy for cancer with ICA seem to negatively affect the resumption of a solid diet after laparoscopic right hemicolectomy with ICA for cancer. RRC does not seem to influence gastrointestinal function recovery

    Ultrastructure of cilia in horses

    No full text
This paper presents some ultrastructural details of cilia from the ciliated tracheal epithelium of healthy horses. By using a new fixation method, the Authors were able to describe minute details, some of which have been only rarely observed in other species and mostly by means of the freeze-etch technique (i.e. electron dense particles of ciliary necklace). The Authors justify the need to investigate the ultrastructural details of cilia in various species since the minute morphological differences might be functionally significant

    Birational geometry of foliations

    No full text
The text presents the birational classification of holomorphic foliations of surfaces.  It discusses at length the theory developed by L.G. Mendes, M. McQuillan and the author to study foliations of surfaces  in the spirit of the classification of complex algebraic surfaces

L'e-Publishing in Italia nel 2001 : a che punto è la riforma dell'editoria? [Paper presented at the Italian Session of Online Information Meeting 2001 - London, 5 december 2001, and at Seminario AIDA "L'editoria elettronica: nuove leggi e vecchia economia", Milano, Palazzo delle Stelline, 15 march 2002]

The article examines the two laws recently approved by the Italian Parliament, no. 62 regulating publishing and no. 248 regulating copyright, and the way these may affect both the off-line and the on-line publishing up to 2001. Provocatively, the author reads the new legal encadrement as dramatically insuffi cient to set to order the multifaceted and sometime thorny relations among all the actors of the publishing world; the law is thus seen as being altogether incapable of opening a true new course. Looking out on a wider perspective, the international context is also far from showing clear guidelines. Indeed, quite differently, contradictions do emerge when agents varying from public institutions engaged for open sources, publishers concerned with copyright protection, to newly-born information services needs are forcely bound to interrelation. The fast-changing publishing world is less and less bound to the fixity of print as it moves more and more towards electronic

A Low-Grade Appendiceal Mucinous Neoplasia and Neuroendocrine Appendiceal Collision Tumor: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

    No full text
BACKGROUND Incidental appendiceal neoplasms account for 1-2% of appendectomies. Mucinous neoplasms and carcinoids are the most frequent lesions, with an incidence of 0.6% and 0.3-0.9%, respectively. Appendiceal collision tumors are extremely rare and result from the proliferation of 2 different cellular lines. This report describes a young woman with a collision tumor composed of a low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasia (LAMN) and an appendiceal neuroendocrine tumor (ANET). CASE REPORT A 31-year-old woman was admitted to our institution presenting with abdominal pain and dysuria. After ultrasound assessment of a dilated appendix with wall thickening and distension by anechogenic material, a diagnosis of acute appendicitis was made. The patient, after a period of antibiotic therapy and observation, underwent an urgent laparoscopic appendectomy due to worsening condition. Surprisingly, the histological exam revealed a Tis LAMN extending from the base of the appendix to the resection margins, and a T3 grade-1 ANET, chromogranin-A and synaptophysin-positive, with a Ki67 less than 1%. On the basis of histological examination and European Neuroendocrine Tumor Network guidelines, in light of the positive LAMN resection margin and ANET mesoappendiceal invasion, after multidisciplinary team discussion, an elective laparoscopic hemicolectomy was indicated. The patient is now in good condition following a regular 5-year follow-up. CONCLUSIONS A collision LAMN and ANET is an exceedingly rare condition. The heterogeneity of clinical presentation and lack of solid evidence seem to recommend a tailored management. Laparoscopy is a safe and useful tool in localized mass excision

A Descent into the Unknown Edgar Allan Poe’s Dappled Duality

Thesis (B.A. in English Literature, Minor in Philosophy)--John Cabot University, Spring 2018.The existentialist inquiry which designed this thesis begins with the ambiguous nature of Edgar Allan Poe’s works. It begins with a primal inquisition on knowledge, that is to say, the source for grasping the ultimate truth, locating its place within the philosophical discourse, to then prove its inaccessibility in Poe’s literary sphere. This thesis is aimed to show how the author plays with the unknown and the reader’s expectations of knowability, through Poe’s take on science and the ambiguous theme of the double
