This paper examines Leonardo Messinese’s volume, Il filosofo e la fede. Il cristianesimo ‘moderno’ di Gustavo Bon-tadini. From the book emerges a philosophical portrait of the Milanese thinker useful to understand the fun-damental points of his theoretical proposal: neoclassical metaphysics, brought out by the Author in relation to the dispute with Emanuele Severino. Some lesser-known cultural, civil and political aspects of Bontadini’s intellectual biography are also exposed. The intent of the volume is to spread a greater knowledge of the fig-ure of Bontadini within Italian philosophical culture, particularly that of Catholic inspiration

    AI-aesthetics and the artificial author

    No full text
Consider this scenario: you discover that an artwork you greatly admire, or a captivating novel that deeply moved you, is in fact the product of artificial intelligence, not a human’s work. Would your aesthetic judgment shift? Would you perceive the work differently? If so, why? The advent of artificial intelligence (AI) in the realm of art has sparked numerous philosophical questions related to the authorship and artistic intent behind AI-generated works. This paper explores the debate between viewing AI as a tool employed by human artists and perceiving AI as a new form of artistic expression with minimal human involvement. While we often seek a human mind behind certain artworks, we may still appreciate and engage with works that lack this element but have aesthetic value nonetheless. The paper also considers the traditional concept of “implied author”, suggesting that readers or artwork viewers might construct an authorial presence from the work itself, regardless of its actual origin. It will be finally suggested how AI-generated art might change our perceptions of human authorship itself

A SICILIAN AUTHOR OF ACCOUNTING: EMANUELE PISANI AND HIS "STATHMOGRAPHY"

    No full text
The paper intends to present the accounting method 'invented' by Emanuele Pisani, the most relevant Sicilian author of the second half of the XIX century. His method was called "Stathmography" and it can be considered the "middle point" between the "personalistic" approach to accounts - that dominated the scene with Cerboni's work and the "materialistic" approach - that was introduced by Crippa and continued by Besta. Although its premises originated with previous authors, his idea was founded upon a new theoretical basis that was the first step to the greater development of the following accounting thought. Considering the importance of the context. A cross-fertilisation will be made within the contents of accounting and the context in which it operated, so a "cross-disciplinary" perspective will be adopted. In pursuing this aim, this paper seeks to explain how this method worked, what kind of implications it had and how the context influenced its ideas. The author will also be considered in his local mainstream of thought: the "Scuola Palermitana" from past times (Flori, 1636) up until contemporary and present day developments

Giustizia e crimine nel Mantovano del tardo Settecento

Justice and Crime in Late Eighteenth-Century Mantua This essays starts with a general survey of the radical reforms of justice carried out in Austrian Lombardy during the reign of Joseph II, including the restructuring of courts and the adoption of a new regulation for criminal trials (the Norma interinale del processo criminale, published in 1786). It then focuses on the functions and activities of the Appellation and other Courts in the province of Mantua, a territory comprising 218.000 inhabitants. On the basis of rich archival sources, the author depicts the range of crimes brought to trials and of the punishments inflicted; he also illustrates the working of criminal procedure in a short, but eventful stretch of time (1789-1796). The analysis of individual criminal cases and of the statistical tables periodically drawn up by judges directs our attention to the underlying social and economic problems, magnified by the difficulties of the time both in Lombardy and in Europe as a whole. Offenses against property tend to grow in number; they are usually committed by poor peasants, handworkers or vagrants and are invariably dealt harsh sentences; begging is more and more widespread, violence is rife in families and communities; riots are not infrequent, especially against Jewish minorities. In spite of the shortage in 210 EMANUELE PAGANO ASL11 - 07 Pagano:ASL08 - 0x 8-11-2011 10:43 Pagina 210 bureaucratic and police personnel, the Mantual magistracy swiftly deals with a growing number of trials (thousands of trials in a few years) and succeeds in coping with crime repression without giving up respect for procedure and for the basic rights of defendant

CORRELATION BETWEEN NAILFOLD VIDEOCAPILLAROSCOPY PATTERNS, LEFT VENTRICLE DYSFUNCTION AND PULMONARY DISEASE IN SYSTEMIC SCLEROSIS,

Background: Systemic Sclerosis (SSc) is a multisystem connective disease characterized by a microvascular damage, which leads to systemic fibrosis, immune dysregulation and progressive involvement of internal organs [1]. According to the classification of the morphological aspects, into the scleroderma pattern proposed by Cutolo et al. are described the early, active and late patterns. Objectives: The aim of our study is thus to report a correlation between specific nailfold videocapillaroscopy pattern and internal organ involvement. Methods: All enrolled patients were diagnosed for SSc, according to the American College of Rheumatology criteria and underwent an echocardiographic examination and a nailfold videocapillaroscopy. Myocardial function parameters considered were: global contractility (computed with the Simpson method), linear contractility (computed through the MAPSE) [2], diastolic dysfunction (through the analysis of the trans-mitral flow) [3]; whilst those of lung damage were: PAPs and the evaluation of the right ventricle contractility through the TAPSE [4]. Statistics were performed with SPSS 20 software, by using the Mann Whitney U Test and the Fisher Test. Results: We enrolled 27 patients, of which 16 showing “active pattern” and 11 “early pattern”, compared to a group of 21 healthy controls. Of the 11 patients belonging to the “early” group, 1 resulted affected by diastolic dysfunction, whilst 3 had pulmonary hypertension, defined by PAPs ≥40 mmHg [4] (early vs controls; p=0.03). In the 16 patients of the “active” group. instead, 5 were found to have a diastolic dysfunction (active vs controls; p=0.01) and 6 pulmonary hypertension (active vs controls; p=0.003). In the group with “active” pattern we also observed a reduction in TAPSE compared to the control group (2,0 ± 0,2 vs 2,2 ± 0,2; p=0,025) and compared to the group with early pattern (2,0 ± 0,2 vs 2,2 ± 0,3; p=0,07). No presence of modifications in the global contractility emerged; however, we observed a progressive reduction of the MAPSE (controls 1.76 ± 0,08; early 1.57 ± 0,04; active 1.49 ± 0,12), which resulted statistically significant among the different comparisons (controls vs early p=0.001; controls vs active p=0.0001; early vs active p=0.04). Conclusion: The analyses showed a strict correlation between the severity of the microvascoular alterations, reported by nailfold videocapilloroscopy, and the severity of the cardiopulmonary damage, expressed by an increase in the percentage of pulmonary hypertension, diastolic dysfunction and a progressive reduction of MAPSE and TAPSE. - In this study the work of Emanuele Trevi is analysed from the first to the most recent publication. The research is divided into five chapters: the first, starting from the reflection on two famous essays by the author, offers an overview of the fundamental themes of the whole work; the other chapters, taking in analysis four of the most well-known works of fiction, will try to shed light on the author’s poetics. From these pages will emerge clearly the perspective of Trevi on literature as an authentic journey of initiation: this fundamental theme will return in each chapter as a red thread that runs through his entire work from 1994 to today
