No full textRodrigo Patto Sá Mota - Prefácio-O momento auge do integralismo, o fascismo brasileiro, foi nos anos 30, quando a Ação Integralista Brasileira passou a estar presente em todas as regiões do país. A iniciativa da presente obra se torna importante ao promover a reflexão da presença integralista em um dos principais focos de camisas-verdes: Minas Gerais. Com aproximadamente 180 cidades, o estado foi amplamente impactado pelo movimento de Plínio Salgado em diversas regiões. A presença do fascismo brasileiro despertou interesse de alguns pesquisadores, que buscaram reconhecer as particularidades do integralismo mineiro. Deste modo, ao voltar o olhar, especificamente, sobre a presença da AIB em Minas Gerais e contemplar os esforços empreendidos pelos pesquisadores que se dedicaram à sua análise, constata-se que, embora se tenha detectado um aumento do número de estudos, ainda assim, dada à grande extensão territorial do estado e à capilar presença integralista na terra das alterosas, fazem-se necessárias mais mãos para se propor um panorama mais fidedigno atinente às atividades dos camisas e blusas verdes mineiros. Oscar Machado: uma trajetória em meio ao metodismo, integralismo e maçonaria (1930-1965)
Get PDFA presente tese tem como objetivo analisar a biografia de Oscar Machado da Silva (1903-1984), maçom e importante intelectual metodista, que, além de atuar como professor e administrador em educandários dessa denominação religiosa, teve uma destacada atuação no universo político configurando-se como uma importante liderança do integralismo brasileiro em seus dois momentos de existência, enquanto Ação Integralista Brasileira (1932-1937) e enquanto Partido de Representação Popular (1945-1965). Sendo uma liderança política e um destacado intelectual metodista que circulou entre os estados de Minas Gerais e Rio Grande do Sul, no período compreendido entre 1930 e 1965, pretende-se, com este estudo, trazer à baila importantes questões relativas à presença de protestantes e maçons no interior do integralismo, elementos que, à primeira vista, eram tidos como irreconciliáveis. Observando de perto essas intersecções por meio da biografia de Oscar Machado, que não foi o único exemplo de líderes que articularam tais elementos, se pretende lançar novas luzes sobre os estudos referentes ao integralismo, abordando a existência de uma certa autonomia em sua alta hierarquia, demonstrando também que houve espaços para que dirigentes e militantes comuns mantivessem práticas religiosas e participassem de doutrinas que eram combatidas pelo movimento, a despeito destes posicionamentos terem sido combatidos à luz da doutrina integralista, sem que isso representasse seu enfraquecimento. Nesse sentido, com vistas a essas questões mencionadas, ao se detectar um hiato entre aquilo que era preconizado e as efetivas práticas de seus militantes mais bem hierarquicamente situados, se lançarão novos olhares e questionamentos sobre tal espectro político, ajudando na desconstrução de posições até então consolidadas pela historiografia referente ao tema.Por fim, vencidas as adversidades encontradas durante a fase em que atuou na Ação Integralista Brasileira, malgrado tenha passado por situações conflituosas no Partido de Representação Popular, ao se cotejar a atuação de Oscar Machado nesse partido e sua ascensão a alguns postos importantes na administração pública estadual e federal, se poderá exemplificar também aquilo que se pode considerar como a “vitória política” do integralismo.The following thesis aims to analyze the biography of Oscar Machado da Silva (1903-1984), Freemason and important Methodist intellectual, who, besides acting as a teacher and administrator in boarding houses of the same religious denomination, had a prominent role in the political universe, becoming an meaningful leadership of Brazil’s integralism in its two moments of existence; as Brazilian Integralist Action (1932-1937) and as Popular Representation Party (1945-1965). Considering this political leadership and outstanding Methodist intellectual who circulated between the states of Minas Gerais and Rio Grande do Sul, in the period between 1930 and 1965, the aim of this study is to bring up important questions concerning the presence of Protestants and Freemasons within integralism, elements that at first sight were regarded as irreconcilable. Looking closely at these intersections through the biography of Oscar Machado, who was not the only example of leaders who articulated such elements, it is intended to shed new light on studies concerning integralism, addressing the existence of certain autonomy in their high hierarchy, also demonstrating that there was room for common leaders and militants to maintain religious practices and to participate in doctrines that were opposed by the movement, despite these positions being opposed to by the integralist doctrine, without it meaning the weakening of the doctrine. In this sense, with these mentioned issues in mind, once a gap between what was advocated and the effective practices of its best hierarchically situated militants is noticed, new glances and questions about this political spectrum will be launched, helping to deconstruct former positions consolidated by the historiography on the subject.Finally, overcoming the adversities encountered during the phase in which he acted in the Brazilian Integralist Action, despite having faced conflicting situations in the Popular Representation Party, by comparing Oscar Machado's performance in that party and his rise to some important positions in the public administration, on state and federal levels, one can also exemplify what can be considered as the “political victory” of integralism.
A “Era Granbery”: apontamentos sobre a inserção e consolidação do projeto educacional metodista em Juiz de Fora (1890-1930)
Get PDFConsiderando o metodismo como a última etapa do Protestantismo Histórico, após discorrer brevemente sobre sua gênese e chegada à América, este artigo tem como objetivo precípuo analisar aspectos da atividade missionária realizada no Brasil por intermédio da Igreja Metodista Episcopal do Sul dos Estados Unidos, que intentava disseminar os ideais religiosos da denominação, os quais se entrelaçavam perfeitamente com certos elementos presentes na cultura norte americana. Para tanto, recorrendo a categorias de Antonio Gramsci e da Nova História Cultural, entendendo que as ações metodistas se pautavam pelo binômio educação e fé, se analisará de que forma, por meio do Instituto Granbery, se deu a inserção e consolidação do projeto educacional metodista, ao ponto da instituição se configurar como o grande celeiro de seus intelectuais durante o período da “Era Granbery”, contribuindo para que a cidade de Juiz de Fora viesse a ser considerada o “Vaticano do Metodismo brasileiro”

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
