Land Use, Urban Voids and Abandoned Areas: New Landscapes for Contemporary Rome. Launching the celebrations marking the centenary of the McKim, Mead & White building and organized in collaboration with Roma Capitale, this symposium gathers landscape specialists from the American Academy and their Italian counterparts presenting research and concrete proposals regarding the renewal of abandoned or underused space on the periphery of Rome. In order to improve the existing infrastructure and halt the erosion of agricultural land, landscape design and maintenance offers the key to requalification according to an organic, sustainable system governing new construction in line with economic activity and the requirements of the existing urban fabric. To celebrate 100 years of collaboration between the City of Rome and the American Academy in Rome a Protocollo d’intesa will be signed during the symposium by Ignazio Marino, Mayor of Rome, and Mark Robbins, President and CEO, American Academy in Rome.

Full text linkEste artigo tem como objetivo analisar a teoria de Peter Benson sobre cláusulas contratuais implícitas, conforme exposta pelo seu livro Justice in Transactions, publicado em 2019. Nesse livro, Benson propõe uma nova teoria do direito contratual baseada exclusivamente nos elementos intrínsecos às transações. Ao lidar com a difícil tarefa de desenvolver uma teoria da implication (a tarefa de depreender cláusulas contratuais implícitas), Benson defende que teorias neutras quanto ao conteúdo dos contratos (ou seja, teorias que, como a sua própria, versam sobre o conteúdo de um contrato sem determinar como ele deveria ser) não precisariam recorrer a princípios externos e que seria possível justificar a implication com base em um conceito particular de razoabilidade, um princípio intrínseco às transações. O artigo examina a teoria da implication de Benson em sua consistência interna, em sua efetiva aplicação pelos tribunais e em sua eficácia ao determinar o conteúdo implícito dos contratos (três dimensões da teoria alegadas pelo autor), e conclui que, embora a teoria seja internamente coerente e tenha aplicação real na common law, ela é incapaz de solucionar satisfatoriamente questões relativas à alocação de riscos e, por isso, gera casos em que resultados contrários seriam igualmente razoáveis

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
