Retirement bring significant changes in a person’s life. Middle-aged persons need to prepare themselves for such changes. This is especially true in the case of involuntary retirement which usually creates more anxiety. One way to prepare for retirement is through serious leisure activities. With serious leisure, self-development may be achieved and it will help the person to face the retirement. The purpose of this study was to test a negative correlation between serious leisure and the level of pre-retirement anxiety. Serious leisure was measured with Serious Leisure and Measurement Inventory (SLIM) which consists of 51 items, and the pre-retirement anxiety was measured with Retirement Anxiety Scale (RAS), which consists of 22 items. The samples were 119 people aged 50 to 53 years old, still working in the formal sector and would face retirement in a few years. Results from this study were analyzed quantitatively using Pearson's Product Moment and it was found significantly that serious leisure is negatively correlated with the level of pre-retirement anxiety. The result was discussed in regard to methodological and practical relevance

    No full text
Loneliness is a condition of a discrepancy between what you want to achieve and what is actually achieved in social relationships, both in quantity and quality. Continued loneliness has a clinical impact that needs to be considered. Loneliness can be experienced by all ages, including adolescents who are currently included in Z generation. During the Covid-19 pandemic, direct social interaction is very limited. Meanwhile, Z generation adolescents are already good at using digital technology and interacting more virtually through social media. This study describes loneliness in Z generation adolescents during the Covid-19 pandemic. The study participants were 233 adolescents aged 15 to 19 years and have one or more gadget. The measuring instrument used is the UCLA Loneliness Scale (Version 3) which has been proven valid and reliable. Data analysis was conducted with descriptive statistics. The findings show a high level of loneliness in Z generation adolescents. Other findings show there is a significant difference between the number of active social media on loneliness, but there is no significant difference between the number of family members living with and the number of interactions with parents on loneliness in Z generation adolescents. Suggestions for this research are addressed to parents and practitioners

The virtual image : Brazilian literature in English translation

    No full text
The aim of this thesis is to examine how the virtual image of Brazil and its literature is constructed in the Anglo-American world. To this end, a survey of Brazilian literary works in English translation was carried out. Having gathered this data, it became possible to establish correlations between the historical moments when such translations were made, when their number increased, and the events occurring at those times in the international panorama, as well as to look into the role of sponsors, publishers and translators in the selection and production of such translations. The data also allowed a profile of Brazilian literary works in English translation to be drawn. It became possible to suggest that such works fall into four main categories: `authorial works', 'topical works', `ambassadorial works' and `consumer-oriented works'. In order to look more closely into how the translation process has helped to shape the virtual image of Brazilian literary works in the Anglo-American world, an analysis of a sample of translations of such works was made. Included in this sample were the translations of works by Machado de Asis, by Indianist and Regionalist wirters, culminating in an examination of translations of GuimarAes Rosa's works. Having looked at these aspects of the translation process, what remained to be done was to investigate to what extent Brazilian literary works in English translation are read by the English- speaking public. To this end, a survey of availability and library readership was undertaken. Finally, a reading experiment was carried out in which native speakers of English were asked to read the short story 'A terceira margem do rio', by GuimarAes Rosa. The conclusion attempts to pull all these threads together and to indicate directions for further research

    No full text
In this article we delve into de consilium entitled Mulier striga, attributed to Bartolo de Sassoferrato and dated between 1331-1334. We contribute to spread the fact it is a forgery and that its author was Giovanni Battista Piotti, a sixteenth-century lawyer, a fact hardly known by many specialists who continue to present the texto as medieval. On the other hand, we will analyze in detail the portrait ot the witch present in this work, never examined by the experts before, in order to determine whether the picture offered is anachronistic, as it happens with other aspects of the document, or matches the beliefs of the first half of the fourteenth century.
