Despite maintaining a skeptical attitude about the possibilities of literary translation, Carme Riera has translated all of her literary works into Spanish, with the exception of the novel Una primavera per a Domenico Guarini. In favour of making a new version of the works instead of transferring them faithfully, the author declares that she conceives self-translation with great freedom. The paper analyses the particularities and strategies of one of Riera's consecutive selftranslations, that of the novel Cap al cel obert, published in Spanish with the title Por el cielo y más allá: loss of geographic variation, cultural adaptation, omissions, additions, substitutions, error correction and lexical choices
Maria-Mercè Marçal, autora de contes
In this article Carme Riera talks about Marçal as a short-story writer, aspect of the author which is less discussed than her poems and novels, but, according to Riera, not at all insignificant. She discusses the three short stories Marçal wrote for adults: Joc de màscares, El retorn and Tronatrons (unpublished). Riera refers to the game of intertextualtity in Marçal’s work; Joc de màscares, which takes Riera´s novel, Te deix, amor, la mar com a penyora, as a starting point, and Tronatrons, which Riera feels could well be intended to pay a tribute to Víctor Català, whose work was well-known by Marçal. Finally, the author of this article talks about the importance of the recurring motif of the mirror in Marçal´s work, both in her poetry and novels
Escola i societat valenciana
Carme Miquel reflect upons the role of schools and observes the contradiction between most of the values and attitudes prevailing in present society and those that schools try to transmit. In this context, the author analyzes also the linguistic issue: it is at school where advances in linguistic normalization are most noticeable. She studies the function of Valencian schools (i.e. schools in Catalan) and the role played by the citizens’ movement represented by Escola Valenciana. Federació d'Associacions per la Llengua within the social and educational environment and regarding linguistic normalization

This thesis has focused on the development of immunochemical new tools for the diagnosis of infectious diseases with the aim of increasing the efficiency of current diagnostic methods. Specifically, this work has focused on the development of immunochemical techniques for the detection of Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa in biological samples. The strategy consisted in selecting specific targets for each of the microorganisms and, specific polyclonal antibodies were developed through rational design of immunization haptens. The antibodies were evaluated by ELISA tests (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) and later implemented in microplate ELISA immunoassays and fluorescent microarrays for the analysis of biological samples (bacteria in culture medium) and clinical samples of respiratory origin (sputum and broncoalveolars lavages and broncoaspirats). The immunoassays obtained for both bacteria are capable of detecting the selected targets with detection levels useful for its implementation in the diagnosis field, offering a promising alternative for diagnosing diseases caused by these bacteria.
As a result of the research carried out two patents have been generated (PCT/ES2014/070161 and P201530780), which are under negotiation with companies in the field of diagnosis. It has published a review article that describes the state of the art regarding the potential of nanobiotechnology in the diagnosis of pathogenic microorganisms, an original research paper, which was published in the Analytica Chimica Acta journal describing the work regarding the immunochemistry detection of S. aureus, and a third article that is under evaluation by the reviewers and editors of the Analytical Chemistry journal and reporting research conducted regarding the development of immunochemistry tools to diagnose diseases caused by P. aeruginosa
Applied Emblems in the Cathedral of Lugo. European Sources for a Spanish Cycle Addressed to the Virgin Mary
In Applied Emblems in the Cathedral of Lugo, Carme López Calderón explores the emblematic programme found in the Chapel of Nuestra Señora de los Ojos Grandes (Galicia, Spain), consisting of fifty-eight emblems painted c. 1735. Making use of a wide range of printed sources, the author delves into the meaning of each emblem and provides an all-encompassing interpretation of this cycle, which can rightly be described as the richest and most complete programme of Marian applied emblematics in the Iberian Peninsula.9999-01-0

Specifically, a research project in which Schons elects the body through discursive bias, specifically through discursivizations about femal mutilation, is specifically taken as an object of reflection. In this project, it was of the symbolic body that the Brazilian author treated, in which the physiological is already always meant. For her, the narrative of mastectomized women was a space of important understanding of the subject and the images of the body and the body that determine it when struck by the disease. In the inter-twining of verbal (narratives) and visual (body-image) Carme wanted to “observe and analyze the productions of meanings in their discursive processes”
Fictional prefaces in the narrative of Carme RieraCarme Riera is one of the canonical authors of Catalan contemporary narrative. Even though her work has been broadly studied, no scientific studies have been carried out on the meaning and importance of the prefaces in her literary work. Riera shows a high interest for this paratext, which uses for conferring a special meaning to her writing as well as for influencing the reader. On the basis of the Paratext Theory of Genette, explained in Seuils 1987, the present article provides detailed analysis of all fictional prefaces encompassed in the publications of the last forty years of this author 1975–2015. This study unravels the high importance of the fictional prefaces, not only in order to understand in depth the meaning of her writing, but also as a decisive tool to distinguish key aspects of the literary work of this Majorcan writer.
