Hippocampal activation for autobiographical memories over the entire lifetime in healthy aged subjects: An fMRI study

    No full text
International audienceWe used functional magnetic resonance imaging to determine the cerebral structures required during the recollection of episodic autobiographical memories according to 5 time periods covering the whole lifespan to test the 2 concurring models of memory consolidation, which propose either a temporary (standard model) or a permanent (multiple-trace model) role of the hippocampus in episodic memory retrieval. The experimental paradigm was specially designed to engage subjects (67.17 +/- 5.22 years old) in the retrieval of episodic autobiographical memories, whatever the time period, from personally relevant cues selected by questioning a family member. Moreover, the nature of the memories was checked at debriefing by means of behavioral measures to control the degree of episodicity. Behavioral data showed that recollected memories were characterized by specificity and details whatever their remoteness. Main neuroimaging data (Statistical Parametric Mapping 99) revealed the activation of a network including the left superior frontal gyri, bilateral precuneus/posterior cingulate and lingual gyri, left angular gyrus, and left hippocampus, although the subtraction analyses detected subtle differences between certain time periods. Small volume correction centered on the hippocampus detected left hippocampal activation for all time periods and additional right hippocampal activation for the intermediate periods. Further confirmation was provided by using a 3-way analysis of variance on blood oxygen level-dependent values, which revealed hippocampal activation whatever the time interval. The present data challenge the standard model of memory consolidation and support the multiple-trace model, instead. The comparison with previous literature stresses the idea that a bilateral involvement of the hippocampus characterizes rich episodic autobiographical memory recollection

A aortic dilatation have been observed in 10 patients (83%) in group I versus 6 patients (75%) in group II (ns). In the group I, there were 6 thrombosis of the false lumen associated in 3 cases to an anevrysm and in 3 cases to non anevrismal aortic dissection. The planimetry have showed in the group I, than the average rapport of the truth lumen surface on the false lumen surface at the thoracic aorta level has been inferior to 0,3 in anevrism group. The rapport has been superior to 0,5 in patients with aortic dissection but a normal size, and incluted between 0,3 and 0,5 in patients with a dilatated aorta (>35mm, <50mm). The virtual angioscopy has been contributed in 75% of patients ( 7 patients, 67% in group I versus 8 patients 100% in group II). The virtual angioscopy has been contributed to find 5 entry door in the patients of group II.PARIS12-CRETEIL BU Médecine (940282101) / SudocPARIS-BIUM (751062103) / SudocSudocFranceF

This study aims to register all the publications of its author within the framework of a history of Rochefort, city-arsenal of the French Navy, apprehended under the angle of the history of the powers of writing. The chronological frame corresponds to that of Rochefort arsenal activity (1666-1927). The specific identification of these powers gives rise to comparisons with other cities-arsenal. It begins with an analysis of the functions of writing in the administration of the Dockyard and the study of the activity of booksellers and printers. An important place is also made for the writing and reading practices of scientists working in the cities-arsenal, through the example of the Navy physician Pierre-Adolphe Lesson. Finally, the question of the appropriation of the book and the colonial writing is tackled by posing the recent historiographical problems related to the study of the book in colonial context

Lírica Dialética (1843); A Repetição. The present research looks into a modality of aesthetic practice within the field of performing arts, and it was developed with the participation of artists and other interested parties. This modality, based on assumptions put forth from the study of aspects of the works of the Danish author Søren Kierkegaard (1813-1855), is founded in an existential perspective of the aesthetic experience and it introduces a double problematic: the simplicity of the desire to express poetic existence and the ambiguity in a kierkegaardian theme par excellence: the willingness to become oneself. The notion of existential aesthetics is approached within this modality of practice, which is philosophically situated in the context of the book The Sickness Unto Death (1849) as well as within the scope of the so-called \"defiant despair\" and the \"poet-existence inclined towards the religion\". This modality of practice probes the limits of verbal language, understood as \"space of possibility\", in order to allow for a sui generis dialog between specific spots in the examined reading itinerary and the aesthetic effects of its reception. Thus, alongside the issues focused on The Sickness Unto Death, the text follows the path of the participant in first person and seeks to encompass the problematization raised by the proposed practice, which is assisted by a peculiar reading itinerary of some topics included within the pseudonymous production of Kierkegaard, particularized in selected chapters of the works: Either/Or. A Fragment of Life (1843); Fear and Trembling. Dialectical Lyric (1843); Repetition. A Venture in Experimenting Psychology (1843); Stages on Life\"s way. Studies by Various Persons (1845). Through this reading itinerary, we fundamentally seek to circumscribe the avenues and limits of the aesthetic ideality by showcasing two existential instances that evade verbal language and, therefore, resist representation: the immediate eroticism and the faith. Within this scope, this thesis consists of three parts: Act I: presentation of the principle and limits of the notion of existential aesthetics within the field problematized by our practice, based on the relationship between aesthetics and existence; Act II: exposition of the avenues of the aesthetic practice within its assumptions, with the identification of the artists and participants in the research as coauthors, and of the Book of Cultivation, a method-object that was conceived to contain the aesthetic propositions associated with Stemning, title of the first section of Fear and Trembling and central axis of our practice. In addition, act II brings the conceptual investigation about the notion of stemning itself (Danish for: \"mood\", \"tuning up\", \"attunement\" \"atmosphere\") linked to the instance of the immediate eroticism; Act III: recognition of the act of watching/assisting and being watched/assisted as the goal of the recollection through the understanding that to recollect the work means to watch/assist it; examination of the aesthetic ideality of recollection as poetic power. With this, we articulate our own recollection of the practice performed by that which we consider the formal beginning of the problematization: a filmed recollection consisting in the making-of of the collection or harvest of the resulting aesthetics generated by the involvement of the participants in the position of producers as well as that of spectators
