Teachers’ Perspectives on Scientific Approach in Indonesian Educational Context
This paper examines the EFL teachers’ perceptions toward the Scientific Approach in
their classroom interaction in Indonesian school context, focusing particularly on their
understanding, perspectives, and implementation of the scientific approach. It aims at
exploring teachers’ perception towards the Scientific Approach applied in the teaching and
learning interaction. The study employs survey research to gain the data. Purposive sampling
technique was employed in selecting the EFL teachers as the respondents. The result of the
study demonstrated that there were marked differences in the way the EFL teachers perceive
the scientific approach in their classroom teaching practices

Increasing Novice EFL Learners’ Vocabulary based on Short Islamic Stories in an Islamic Higher Education
The majority of EFL students lack adequate vocabulary knowledge and become frustrated when they cannot comprehend the meaning of key vocabulary terms in a passage. The study aims to determine whether short Islamic stories can improve the vocabulary acquisition of novice EFL learners. It uses quantitative research by applying a pre-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test. The study involves 30 novice EFL students enrolled in the Basic Translation course at the English Language Education department, Islamic State University of Sultan Aji Muhammad Idris Samarinda. To determine the significance of the short Islamic study to the student's vocabulary significance, the study applied a vocabulary test containing a matching test, a word meaning test, a vocabulary test, and a pronunciation and spelling test. The findings of the study revealed a significant difference between the pre-test and post-tests due to the treatment. The study's results refuted the null hypothesis. It was determined that there was substantial evidence regarding the effect of Islamic short stories on vocabulary acquisition. Further studies related to this study are needed considering the data provided in this pre-experimental design is still limited to the number of treatment groups
Attitudes and Approaches of the EFL Teachers on Scientific Approach in Indonesian School Context
The research explores the attitudes of EFL teachers and their teaching practices in the classroom about teaching and learning interaction using the Scientific Approach in the Indonesian school context. This study employs a descriptive study using a purposive sampling technique and taking 34 respondents from EFL teachers. The questionnaire and interview used to collect data on perception of EFL teachers on the scientific approach in the process of teaching and learning, and observation applied to gain the data on the EFL teachers’ teaching practices in implementing the scientific approach in their classroom interaction. The result of this study showed that there were apparent differences in the way of EFL teachers perceive the scientific approach in their classroom teaching and learning practices. The differences lead the teachers to three group categories: (1) the highly implementing scientific approach; (2) moderately implementing scientific approach; and (3) poorly implementing the scientific approach. This research expects to be a reference for teachers professional development especially teachers capacity building implementing the 2013 curriculum
EFL Students’ Perspective on the Usefulness of ICT based Learning in Indonesian Higher Education
The study explores the perception of the EFL students in English Language Teaching through ICT based learning at Universitas Negeri Makassar. It employs a descriptive study using purposive sampling techniques by taking 57 respondents from university students. The online questionnaire used to collect data on the perception of students on the ICT based Learning of English Language Teaching. The method of descriptive in terms of percentage has been used for data processing, and the deduction method has been used to analyze and interpret data. The result of this study indicates the positive perception those university students hold on the use of the Learning Management System in English Language Teaching. Further study can refer to this Acceptance Model in determining a suitable ICT integrated learning program between the reality and user expectations of the program used
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
