Music devised for the film Viva Voce by Keith Piper
No full textI was asked by Keith Piper to provide some musical material for the film, Viva Voce. He and I then shared ideas about the music of the 1920s that could have been heard by the frequenters of the Gargoyle Club of which Rex Whistler was a member. The heyday of the US ragtime craze had passed by this time but left influences in the music of a number of touring bands one of which was the Plantation orchestra with American jazz singer and dancer, Florence Mills whose song I’m a Little Blackbird, Looking for a Bluebird was a hit, and has since been seen as a plea for racial equality.
Keith Piper’s Viva Voce film, 2024 is installed in the old member’s dining room, Tate Britain. Estudo dos óleos essenciais de Piperaceae do Vale do Itajaí em Santa Catarina

Programa de Pós-Graduação em Química.Neste trabalho foram estudadas espécies do gênero Piper, da família Piperaceae de ocorrência no Vale do Itajaí, em Santa Catarina, onde os perfis químicos de seus óleos essenciais foram analisados. Sete espécies de Piperáceas foram estudadas, sendo elas: Piper caldense, Piper callosum, Piper mollicomum, Piper regnellii var. pallescens, Piper regnellii var. regnellii, Piper lindbergii e Piper gaudichaudianum. As espécies Piper caldense, Piper Mollicomum e Piper gaudichaudianum foram coletadas no Parque São Francisco de Assis, município de Blumenau. Já as espécies Piper callosum e Piper regnellii var. pallescens foram coletadas na Congregação das Irmãs Catequistas Franciscanas do município de Rodeio. A espécie Piper regnellii var. regnellii no campus I da Universidade Regional de Blumenau e no município de Brusque e ainda a Piper lindbergii no bairro Salto Weissbach, em Blumenau. Verificou-se através da destilação por arraste de vapor que a espécie Piper caldense não apresenta quantidade significativa de óleo essencial, inviabilizando seu estudo. Nas demais espécies foram encontradas teores de óleo variando entre 0,1 e 0,7% onde, após análise instrumental por CG-EM e índice de retenção, suas respectivas composições foram determinadas, destacando-se os principais constituintes por espécie: Piper callosum, safrol (60%); Piper regnellii variedade pallescens, apiol (54%) e dilapiol (18%); Piper regnellii variedade regnellii, beta-pineno (20%), biciclogermacreno (8%) e espatulenol (9%); Piper mollicomum, alfa-pineno (10%), beta-pineno (18%), trans-cariofileno (10%); Piper gaudichaudianum, alfa-humuleno (6%), alfa-selineno (5%), beta-selineno (5%), espatulenol (5%) e óxido de cariofileno (6%); Piper lindbergii, óxido de cariofileno (19%). Posteriormente, utilizou-se o óleo essencial das espécies Piper callosum, Piper mollicomum e Piper regnellii var. regnellii para avaliar a sua atividade antimicrobiana. A espécie Piper mollicomum apresentou atividade inibitória ao crescimento bacteriano contra Escherichia coli e Staphylococcus aureus

No full textJet Black Futures (Publication) is an Artist Monograph exploring Keith Piper’s past and present practice, with special focus on two related solo exhibitions: ‘Jet Black Futures’ at the New Art Gallery Walsall (14th January – 24th April 2022) and ‘Body Politics’ Works from 1982-2007’ held at Wolverhampton Art Gallery (10 October – 1st December 2019). The Monograph is comprised of a commissioned essay by Dr Anjalie Dalal-Clayton entitled “Time Looping: Cyclical pasts and speculative futures in the work of Keith Piper”. Programa de Pós-Graduação em Química.O presente trabalho envolveu processos de extração, isolamento, purificação e identificação dos constituintes químicos das folhas de outono da Piper solmsianum. Da fração hexânica foram isoladas três neolignanas benzofurânicas denominadas de euponatenóide-3, eupomatenóide-5 e conocarpano. Da fração diclorometano foi isolado o conocarpano. Na fração acetato de etila foram detectados as flavonas 7- metoxi-apigenina (genkwanina) e a orientina e duas flavanonas hesperidina e iluteolina-7-rutinosídeo. O conocarpano foi submetido a reações de metilação, benzoilação e acetilação e obteve-se os derivados: conocarpano metilado, conocarpano benzoilado e conocarpano acetilado, os quais foram avaliados quanto ao potencial analgésico e observou-se que o conocarpano cetilado foi mais ativo que os demais. Por reações de dimerização oxidativa do isoeugenol obteve-se dois análogos ao conocarpanp o a-di-isoeugenol e o diidrodiisoeugenol, os quais demonstra
Cantata AND Homecoming Eve "Lewes-Rehoboth Choral Society"
No full textThis reel-to-reel audio tape contains two items. Side one contains a Cantata, which appears from the beginning of the tape to 01:00:00. The entire track consists of choral music. Side two contains a Homecoming event, which runs from 01:00:04 to the end of the recording. It begins with Reverend Piper making remarks, after which Mrs. Hudson explains that the church was founded in 1854, 120 years previously, and that there would be a fellowship hour after the ceremony. Mayor Stengel of Lewes makes a statement congratulating the church, and Reverend Piper gives a list of people who were invited but could not attend. An Old Testament Lesson, a Gospel Lesson, a prayer, and a New Testament reading follow this. After this, the congregation dedicated a Wayside Memorial Sign and pulpit, hearing a Bible reading and saying a prayer. Finally, a man gives a talk on the meaning of homecoming, reflecting on the Old Testament Lesson. Songs and hymns are interspersed between the various segments of the ceremony
The Message in Music, Regular Worship AND Installation at Midway
No full textThis reel-to-reel audio tape holds two distinct recordings. First, it contains a worship service held on May 12, 1968, about the message in music. It appears from the beginning of the tape until 01:01:42. The first part of the recording seems to be a typical church service. From 00:23:54 to 00:39:09, the minister or pastor gives a sermon on hymns and music used in church services. Then, for the remainder of the service, he provides background and information on particular hymns, and the congregation sings them.
The second recording on this tape is an installation ceremony for S. Royden Piper on February 18, 1968, at Midway Church. The entire service is recorded and runs from 01:01:43 to the end of the tape. The installation ceremony occurs between 01:49:34 and 01:54:56. Other events in the service include a reading from Genesis from 01:14:10 to 01:17:21, a sermon by the minister or pastor from 01:24:11 to 01:45:50, and talks welcoming Royden Piper between 01:55:08 and 02:05:51
