Photograph of a collage showing the members of the St. Joseph's Church dedication reception committee, May 1903. Twenty-two busts of men in suits are shown, framed by oval or rectangular outlines and arranged in four rows of five and six overtop a filigree background pattern.; The caption underneath the portraits lists the following members: "Atalus Niemeyer", "Frank S. Hicks", "Carl Leonardt", "Eugene F. Ganahl", "Michael Holeran", "Richard Molony", "J. Wiseman MacDonald", "Daniel M. Leary", "Frank J. Schmitz", "John R. Grant", "Ferdinand A. Helm", "Louis T. Christopher", "John J. Bergin", "Phillip L. Wilson", "JeromeL. Mansfield", "Ambrosio Vignola", "John S. Underwood", "Patrick J. McCormick", "Joseph W. Wolfskill", "John Larronde", "Joseph Yoch", and "Michael Stephan"

Multiple Quantum Transitions in Atomic Beam Magnetic Resonance

Title: Multiple Quantum Transitions in Atomic Beam Magnetic Resonance, Author: Anton R. Pierce, Location: ThodeThe problem of multiple quantum transitions between the magnetic sub-levels of an atomic ground state hyperfine multiplet has been investigated both experimentally and theoretically. Special emphasis has been paid to the behaviour of these transitions as the magnetic sub-levels of the hyperfine multiplet depart from equal level spacing The experiments performed determine the power dependence of the multiple quantum transitions of Na23. These experiments led to the establishment of a technique of determining transition multiplicity. Expressions are also developed which permit the calculation of transition probabilities for arbitrary values of multiplicity, r . f. amplitude and degree of inequality of level spacing.ThesisMaster of Science (MS

Towards Simulation of Geometrical Effects of Laser Tempering of Boron Steel before Self-Pierce Riveting

    No full text
The automotive industry is continuously developing and finding new ways to respond to the incremental demands of higher safety standards and lower environmental impact. As an answer to weight reduction of vehicles, the combination of boron steel and composite material is being developed along with their joining process, self-pierce riveting. Boron steel is an ultra-high strength material that needs to be locally softened before the joining process. However, the joining process deforms the part. This paper investigates factors affecting the geometrical deformation during the tempering process and lists important phenomena that need to be included when simulating the tempering process

A proposal drafted by M. F. Hass, Lieutenant Colonel, that was sent to all civilian agencies in the Wartime Civil Control Administration. The proposal outlined all pertinent data related to Japanese evacuation from Pierce County in Washington. The procedures for the exclusion order and processing are listed as well as the number of people to be evacuated on which days. The War Relocation Authority (WRA), together with the Wartime Civil Control Administration (WCCA), the Civil Affairs Division (CAD) and the Office of the Commanding General (OFG) of the Western Defense Command (WDC) operated together to segregate and house some 110,000 men women and children from 1942 to 1945. The collection contains documents and photographs relating to the establishment and administrative workings of the (WDC), the (WRA) and the (WCCA) for the year 1942

    Divergence of F≤ Type Checking

    No full text
System F≤ is an extension of second-order typed lambda calculus, where a subtype hierarchy among types is defined, and bounded second-order lambda abstraction is allowed. This language is a basis for much of the current research on integration of typed functional languages with subtypes and inheritance. An algorithm to perform type checking for F≤ expressions has been known since the language Fun was defined. The algorithm has been proved complete, by the author and P.-L. Curien, which means that it is a semi-decision procedure for the type-checking problem. In this paper we show that this algorithm is not a decision procedure, by exhibiting a term which makes it diverge. This result was the basis of Pierce's proof of undecidability of typing for F≤. We study the behavior of the algorithm to show that our diverging judgement is in some sense contained in any judgement which makes the algorithm diverge. On the basis of this result, and of other results in the paper, we claim that the c..

This chapter examines the institutional power of the F Street Mess during the 33rd Congress including their influence over President Franklin Pierce and Stephen Douglas, the author of the proposed Kansas-Nebraska bill. The chapter concludes with a discussion of how the F Street Mess forced a rewrite of the bill’s language which repealed the original 1820 restriction against slavery above the 36 30 and replaced it with the principle of congressional non-intervention, better known as popular sovereignty. </p
