    Thermo-Mechanical Finite Element Simulation and Fatigue Life Assessment of a Copper Mould for Continuous Casting of Steel

    AbstractThis work describes the thermo-mechanical analysis of a copper mould for continuous steel casting. During the process, the molten steel passes through a water cooled mould. The inner part of the component is subjected to a huge thermal flux. Consequently large temperature gradients occur across the component, especially in the region near to the meniscus, and cause elastic and plastic strains. The aim of this work is to set up an industrially oriented approach to assess the fatigue life of the copper mould. To achieve the goal, a three-dimensional finite element model is analyzed in dependence of four different material models (linear kinematic hardening, combined, stabilized and accelerated material model). The main question is which material model is more suitable to be used. Material coefficients for all applied material and fatigue life models are estimated from experimental, isothermal low cycle fatigue data. The fatigue life is also assessed depending on different material models. The results obtained with the FEM analysis are examined and compared

    Edge Asymmetries in Phonology and Morphology

    Many phonological and morphological phenomena affect only the left edge of a constituent, but never the right. We argue that such edge bias is due to a formal limitation on constraints: reference to the right edge is not possible. Cases of apparent right-edge reference are due to other factors that happen to approximate right-edgeness.     Endophilin-A Deficiency Induces the Foxo3a-Fbxo32 Network in the Brain and Causes Dysregulation of Autophagy and the Ubiquitin-Proteasome System

    SummaryEndophilin-A, a well-characterized endocytic adaptor essential for synaptic vesicle recycling, has recently been linked to neurodegeneration. We report here that endophilin-A deficiency results in impaired movement, age-dependent ataxia, and neurodegeneration in mice. Transcriptional analysis of endophilin-A mutant mice, complemented by proteomics, highlighted ataxia- and protein-homeostasis-related genes and revealed upregulation of the E3-ubiquitin ligase FBXO32/atrogin-1 and its transcription factor FOXO3A. FBXO32 overexpression triggers apoptosis in cultured cells and neurons but, remarkably, coexpression of endophilin-A rescues it. FBXO32 interacts with all three endophilin-A proteins. Similarly to endophilin-A, FBXO32 tubulates membranes and localizes on clathrin-coated structures. Additionally, FBXO32 and endophilin-A are necessary for autophagosome formation, and both colocalize transiently with autophagosomes. Our results point to a role for endophilin-A proteins in autophagy and protein degradation, processes that are impaired in their absence, potentially contributing to neurodegeneration and ataxia

    Most of the coconut plantations in Indonesia are dry land, so it is very dependent on rain to meet the water needs of the coconut plants. Changes in rainfall and rainy days affect coconut production. This research was conducted to determine the effect of rainy days and rainfall and its correlation to the production of three varieties of Coconut Tall. The research was conducted at the Mapanget Experimental Garden, IPCRI from January 2019 to April 2019, using data on Coconut Tall Mapanget  Inner Coconut production, rainy day data (days) and rainfall (mm) for the period 2014 - 2020 The analytical method used is multiple linear regression and correlation analysis. The results of multiple regression analysis showed that rainy days and rainfall variables had no significant effect at the 5% test level on the increase in the number of bunches/trees/year, the number of fruits/bunch, and the number of fruits/tree/year in the variety Coconut Tall Mapanget. The results of the regression analysis showed that rainfall and rainy days had no significant effect on the coconut production variables, namely the number of bunches/tree/year, number of fruit/bunch, number of fruit/tree/bunch in KP. Mapanget on plants with a spacing of 9 x 9 m, 5 x 16 m, 5 x 3 x 16 m and 5 x 12 m. The various spacing treatments did not have a significant or significant effect on the coconut production component in coconut tall Mapanget (DMT) but in general, the 9 x 9 m spacing was relatively better than the other spacing treatments.  Sebagian besar lahan pertanaman kelapa di Indonesia merupakan lahan kering sehingga sangat bergantung pada hujan untuk memenuhi kebutuhan air tanaman kelapa.  Perubahan curah hujan dan hari hujan mempengaruhi produksi kelapa. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui pengaruh hari hujan dan curah hujan serta korelasinya terhadap produksi dari tiga varietas kelapa Dalam. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Kebun Percobaan Mapanget, Balit Palma pada bulan Januari 2019 sampai April 2019, menggunakan data petikan produksi Kelapa Dalam Mapanget (DMT), data hari hujan (hari), dan curah hujan (mm) periode tahun 2014 - 2020. Metode analisis yang digunakan adalah regresi linear berganda dan analisis korelasi. Hasil analisis regresi berganda menunjukkan bahwa variabel hari hujan dan curah hujan tidak berpengaruh nyata pada taraf  uji 5% terhadap peningkatan jumlah tandan/pohon/tahun, jumlah buah/tandan, dan jumlah buah/pohon/tahun pada varietas kelapa Dalam Mapanget (DMT). Hasil analisis regresi menunjukkan bahwa curah hujan dan hari hujan tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap variabel produksi kelapa yaitu jumlah tandan/pohon/tahun, jumlah buah/tandan, jumlah buah/pohon/tandan di KP. Mapanget pada tanaman dengan jarak tanam 9 x 9 m, 5 x 16 m, 5 x 3 x 16 m dan 5 x 12 m. Pada perlakuan berbagai jarak tanam tidak memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan atau nyata terhadap komponen produksi kelapa dalam Mapanget (DMT) akan tetapi secara umum, jarak tanam 9 x 9 m relatif lebih baik daripada perlakuan jarak tanam lainnya. &nbsp

    Relating grass failure on the landside slope to wave overtopping induced excess normal stresses

    A high quality safety assessment of levee systems requires a good prediction of when the grass cover of levees fail. Current methods relate the onset of failure to the peak in momentum or energy of the flow, instead of the peak in momentum transfer or energy transfer to the grass cover. The critical velocity necessary in the current methods is thereby difficult to quantify. In line with determining the peak in momentum transfer to the grass, here is shown that the onset of damage of the grass cover can be related to the peak normal stresses acting on the grass cover during wave overtopping. The peak in momentum transfer is thereby assumed to be located at the point of reattachment of the flow with the landside slope. The method is validated against the results of two wave overtopping experiments and benchmarked against the cumulative overload method.     Martin Kasarda’s The history of inferiority as transgression and controversy

    In the context of Slovak cultural history, the 1990s marked a transitional period characterized by radical transformations in values – also concerning the role of writers and the evolving social functions of literature. The cultural situation of the era can also be illustrated on the “Kasarda case” of 1991, which followed the magazine publication of the short story “(perhaps) Last supper” by Martin Kasarda (b. 1968). The publication of the text provoked a wave of resentment related to the blasphemous nature of the author’s paraphrase of the canonical biblical story. The article attempts a poetological and literary-historical contextualization of M. Kasarda’s first book, The history of inferiority (1994), where the author elaborated on the aesthetic foundations of the short story that sparked considerable controversy. My interpretation is grounded in the concept of transgression – the moment when a text is shaped by crossing boundaries set by canonized models and codes. The contradictory aesthetic principles employed by the author, reflective of the period, led to the debut’s cautious critical reception

I analyze the interrelation between the structure of the optimal insurance contract and the firm’s objective to minimize the required equity it has to hold to accommodate losses in the presence of multiple risks and moral hazard. In contrast to the case of risk aversion and moral hazard, the optimal insurance contract involves a joint deductible on aggregate losses in the present setting

The lasers, working in the range of temperatures (17,580K17,5 - 80 K), are tested as a tool of the high resolution absorption spectroscopy of atmospherically important speciesaspecies^{a}. The spectral charachteristics and tunability of the lasers are probed by means of the vibration-rotation lines of the gaseous molecules C2H2,NH3,OCS,CO,CH3ClC_{2}H_{2}, NH_{3}, OCS, CO, CH_{3}Cl and H2OH_{2}O. Experimentaly estimated spectral emission linewidths vary in the range 10 - 30 MHz in dependence on the current passing and laser typebtype^{b}. Potential applications of the lasers are in the area of analytical chemistry, atmospheric research and kinetics of reactive species. Photoacoustic spectroscopy (PAS) with the InAsSb/InAsSbP and leadchalkogenide tunable infrared diode lasers represents a very promising tool for trace gas monitoring. In this study we present and discuss some results obtained using the 3.23.63.2 - 3.6 and 5μ5\mum diode lasers. The results have been obtained with a small and very simple glass photoacoustic cell. The cell consists of a hearing aid microphone (Br\""{u}el \& Kj{\ae}r type 4144/Sennheiser type K6P) and an infrared diode laser. The laser is modulated by means of the amplitude/wavelength modulation at three different resonance frequencies of the cell. The PAS measurements of the dependence of the 2 f signal on the gas mixture pressures yield information on the detection limits and influence of the total pressure in the cell on the amplitude of the photoacoustic signal for different mixtures of the studied gases with air

    Examination of the relationship between gaming disorder (GD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD): a meta-analysis

    Rationale The association between childhood and adult Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and substance use/substance use disorder (SUD) is well documented (Lee et. al., 2011; Oortmerssen et. al., 2014). There is an increasing number of studies showing an association between non-substance related disorders, such as gambling disorder, compulsive buying and Internet addiction/Internet gaming disorder (Karace et. al., 2017). Despite of the large number of available studies investigating the association between ADHD and gaming disorder, which was included in the 11th revision of the international classification of diseases, as an independent diagnostic category (World Health Organization, 2018), a study collecting and summarizing the different results and estimating the strength of this association is still missing. Condition or domain being studied Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder is a developmental disorder with two main groups of symptoms: inattentive and hyperactive/impulsive symptoms. Clinicians differentiate between three subtypes of the disorder: predominantly inattentive, predominantly hyperactive/impulsive and combined presentation. For a proper diagnosis, the symptoms have to persist for 6 months, independent from the setting (e.g., at home, school, work, with friends or relatives) to a degree that is inconsistent with the developmental level and they have to negatively affect the social and academic/occupational functioning. Gaming disorder according to the ICD -11 is characterized by a pattern of persistent or recurrent videogaming behavior which is associated with the following symptoms: impaired control over gaming behavior, increasing priority given to videogaming to the extent that it takes precedence over other life interests and daily activities and the continuation or escalation of videogaming despite the occurrence of negative consequences. The pattern of gaming results in marked distress or functional impairments in different areas of life (social life, education, occupation or other).
