Activity of Mufti Jakub Szynkiewicz (Yakub Shinkevich) during the Second World War (1939–1945)
The aim of the article is to analyze the activity of mufti Jakub Szynkiewicz (Yakub Shinkevich) during the Second World War. The author of the article shows that there is no evidence of the existence of military units consisting of Tatars (inhabiting the lands of modern Belarus), which were a part of the units of the German armed forces. However, we could find some data on the cooperation of individual Tatar representatives with Wermacht and SS, as well as their participation in political collaboration. Mufti Szynkiewicz turned out to be one of the collaborators. Szynkiewicz became the representative of all Muslims in the territories occupied by the Nazis to the east of the General Gouvernement and East Prussia. His activity was supported by such Tatar-Muslim leaders as Ali (Aleksander) Smajkiewicz, Bary Chalecki and Husejn Jakubowski. Muslim leaders appointed Tatar committees in order to select the Tatars showing loyalty towards the Nazi authorities and to organize activities to preserve national traditions and the Islamic religion. According to information taken from the data of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus, at the end of February 1944 there were three committees: in Minsk, Kletsk and Lakhovichi. In addition, another goal of the muftiat was to establish the Tatar Youth Organisation. Mufti Szynkiewicz’s appeals addressed to the occupation authorities with a request for permission to form a Muslim youth association, received positive feedback. An agreement on this matter was reached in February 1944. The meeting at which establishing the Tatar Youth Organisation was officially announced took place in Alytus, Lituania on May 19, 1944, where the Mufti spoke with the welcome speech. Analyzing the source materials, the author of the article concludes that during World War II massive Tatar cooperation from the areas of contemporary Belarus with the German occupation authorities could not be observed, and the attempts of ideological mobilization of Tatars to collaborate, undertaken by some Muslim leaders with mufti Szynkiewicz, did not bring significant results.Brest State Technical University. A discourse analysis of popular preacher mufti Isma'il Menk
The bachelor thesis deals with the current popular Islamic thinker Mufti Menk. Mufti Menk has millions of followers across his social media accounts that he uses as the main platforms when spreading his thoughts. He is popular mainly among young Muslims, but his influence extends to a significant number of non-Muslims as well. The aim of the thesis is to analyze Menk through the evaluation of his social and political ties, his overall attitude towards politics, and the controversies that surround him. The thesis also analyzes the topics he addresses on his social media and thus outlines the main ideas he is trying to spread among his target group and what these ideas say about him. Mufti Menk is sometimes seen as a Salafi. This is probably due to his connection to the Islamic University of Madinah, ties to other Salafis, and some of his views. Drawing upon the findings of this thesis, the author will also briefly evaluate how strong Menk's connection to Salafism is
EEG Based Brain-Machine Interface for Navigation of Robotic Device
The highly parallel neurophysiological recordings
and the increasing number of signal processing tools open up
new avenues for connecting technologies directly to neuronal
processes. As the understanding of the neuronal signals is
taking a better shape, lot more work to perform is coming up to
properly interpret and use these signals for brain-machine
interfaces. A simple brain-machine interface may be able to
reestablish the broken loop of the persons with motor
dysfunction. With time the brain-machine interfacing is
growing more complex due to the increased availability of
instruments and processes for implementation. In this work,
the author proposes a brain-machine interface model through a
few simple processes for automated navigation and control of
robotic device using the extracted features from the EEG
signals based on saccadic eye movement tasks

Diversity of Butterflies (Lepidoptera; Rhopalocera) in Three Habitat Types of Forest Edge Area of Bukit Mas Village, North Sumatra, Indonesia
The limited information on butterfly responses to urbanization, particularly in Indonesia, prompted this study, which aims to assess butterfly diversity in different habitats (forest edge, residential areas, and community plantations) within the buffer zone of Gunung Leuser National Park, specifically in Bukit Mas Village, North Sumatra. Observations of plantation habitats were conducted in Aras Napal Hamlet, a buffer zone area, and Bukit Mas Village plantations. This exploratory study, conducted in September 2023, used the Point Count method with 18 points in residential and plantation habitats and 8 points in forest edge habitats. Each count point had a 5-meter radius with 10 minutes of observation, repeated twice daily (08.00–12.00 and 13.00–17.00), and the distance between points was 100 m. A total of 2,536 individuals from 89 species and seven families were recorded, with Nymphalidae being the most dominant family (44 species, 687 individuals). Extrapolation using the iNEXT package shows higher diversity in forest edge as well. At the same time, Residential areas provide a more diverse environment regarding species, while the Forest Edge exhibits the lowest diversity. This study highlights the importance of habitat heterogeneity in maintaining butterfly diversity in buffer zones affected by human activities. In conclusion, species diversity is highest in residential areas, followed by plantations, and lowest in forest edges
Abortion Due to Fetal Defects (Legal Analysis of Legislation and Fatwa of Ulama Mufti Bayan Linnas Number 68): Aborsi Karena Cacat Janin (Analisis Hukum Terhadap Peraturan Perundangan dan Fatwa Ulama Mufti Bayan Linnas Nomor 68)
Abortion is a word that symbolizes a crime in which the perpetrator must be punished because it is considered to have taken away a human being's right to life. However, sometimes abortion has to be carried out because if the pregnancy continues, the mother's life will be at stake due to the disability suffered by the occupant of her womb. Defects experienced by the fetus must be declared by a recognized medical expert in the field of pregnancy. This research question is how the laws and fatwas from Malaysian mufti clerics conclude the legal status of abortion due to fetal defects. In this research the author uses library research methods and is normative juridical in nature. Malaysia does not have specific laws governing abortion, so everything related to abortion will refer to Penal Code Section 312-316 (Act 574). Dr. Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri, former Minister of Religion and Mufti of the 7th Federal Region stated in an article uploaded to Bayan Linnas No. 68 states that abortion is divided into two laws, namely mandatory if it has not reached the age of 120 days and haram if it has reached the age of 120 days or more unless the fetus being impregnated threatens the mother's life then it is permitted. Here it can be concluded that abortion is permitted if there is harm to the mother. If there is no harm, it is prohibited and forbidden
Classifying EEG Signals of Mind-Wandering Across Different Styles of Meditation
In the modern world, it is easy to get lost in thought, partly because of the vast knowledge available at our fingertips via smartphones that divide our cognitive resources and partly because of our intrinsic thoughts. In this work, we aim to find the differences in the neural signatures of mind-wandering and meditation that are common across different meditative styles. We use EEG recording done during meditation sessions by experts of different meditative styles, namely shamatha, zazen, dzogchen, and visualization. We evaluate the models using the leave-one-out validation technique to train on three meditative styles and test the fourth left-out style. With this method, we achieve an average classification accuracy of above 70%, suggesting that EEG signals of meditation techniques have a unique neural signature across meditative styles and can be differentiated from mind-wandering states. In addition, we generate lower-dimensional embeddings from higher-dimensional ones using t-SNE, PCA, and LLE algorithms and observe visual differences in embeddings between meditation and mind-wandering. We also discuss the general flow of the proposed design and contributions to the field of neuro-feedback-enabled mind-wandering detection and correction devices.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository 'You share, we take care!' - Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Design Aesthetic
