    Deutsche Literaturgeschichtsschreibung bei den Slowenen: Anastasius Grün und der Polyhistor Peter von Radics

    International audienceThe article discusses the festschrift Anastasius Grün und seine Heimat (Stuttgart 1876), written by the Carniolan polyhistor Peter von Radics (1836-1912) on the occasion of the 70 th birthday of the Austrian Vormärz poet Anastasius Grün (1806-1876). It analyses the ideal-aesthetic aspects of Grün's poems, which the author regarded as constitutive, the motifs of freedom of thought and harmony of nations, which are linked to universal claims, and the particular motif of morality, based on German education and culture, and places them in an identity-creating perspective. Furthermore, light is shed on the significance of the individual poetics of the jubilarian and the historical contextualisation of Radics' argumentation. We intend to analyse the ideological foundations and the methodological approaches of his monograph. The article aims at providing a better understanding of Radics' position in the literary and cultural-historical discourse of the time and the status of Radics' monograph in literary historiography among the Slovenes.</div

    Based on archival and newspaper sources, this article presents the life and work of the journalist, editor, critic, and social activist Hedwig von Radics-Kaltenbrunner (1845–1919). She spent her youth in Vienna and the rest of her life in Ljubljana. Thus the main question dealt with in the article is to what extent her Viennese experience and other European models influenced her work in Carniola. In addition, this article evaluates and defines the importance of the intercultural links she forged with important figures across Europe, and contextualizes this “forgotten” author within Slovenian cultural history.Prispevek na podlagi arhivskih in časopisnih virov prikazuje življenje in delo publicistke, urednice, kritičarke in družbeno angažirane Hedwig pl.     This article focuses on the life and creative path of the Carniolian polymath,many-faceted researcher, historian, German specialist, and theater specialist Peter von Radics (1836-1912), who was born in Postojna (Adelsberg) but did not have Carniolan roots. Based on this case study, the author examines the issues of what characterized an intellectual working in Carniola in the nineteenth century, what his place in society was, and what his understanding of his own identity was. The article also examines the hypothesis that one can speak of at least three identities in the nineteenth-century Slovenian lands - regional, ethnic, and dynastic (Habsburg), sheds light on the conditions that marked Radicsʼ life and work, and seeks to explain why he chose to live in the microcosm of Carniola rather than seeking his fortune as a journalist, researcher, and author in the centerof the monarchy, in Vienna

    Cosmologies of Federal Criminal Procedural Reform: Democratizing and Humanizing Criminal Justice in Argentina

    In Argentina, the reform of the Código Procesal Penal de la Nación (Federal Criminal Procedural Code) has been a continuous political process that was intensified with the transition to democracy in 1983. Since then, the main thrust behind the reform of the justice system centered on the shift from an “inquisitorial system” toward an “accusatorial system.” While the process has mobilized different sectors of Argentine society, it has also made the differences in opinions between actors involved (both political and professional) in the legal arena of reform more apparent. Furthermore, the debate over the reforms has been shaped by a series of cosmologies, or idealistic representations of the legal social order constructed by these actors. This chapter seeks to explore the campaign to reform the Federal Criminal Procedure Code by one group of legal experts. Based on an ethnography of the debates concerning the reform, this chapter describes how these experts built consensus among academics and politicians over the need to reform criminal legislation. Furthermore, this chapter examines four central cosmologies that have shaped the debate – namely, 1) democratization and human rights, 2) “humanization of criminal justice,” 3) “prosecution of the great crime,” and 4) modernization and overcoming the “old and obsolete.” This chapter concludes by demonstrating how these four cosmologies can visualize the construction of a rhetoric regarding the political necessity of reform in a democratic nation in the Global South.Fil: Mira, Julieta.     STUDY ON THE ECONOMIC EFFECT OF PRODUCTION FREE FROM CHEMICAL USE

    The assumption, that in case of production different from the conventional one, operational and production risk are increasing in farms, is supported by the calculations. Input/output relations undergo a change in each sector and this may have serious financial outcomes, which would importantly determine profit yielding capacity and efficiency of farming. The statement of Offermann and Nieberg is true of the cost structure, according to which essential cost difference between the two technologies can not be measured. By the aid of the calculation, it was successfully verified – in compliance with the opinion of Wookey – that organic production can be as profitable, as the conventional production or even more so. In contradiction to Bmvel’s data, it can be demonstrated, that even a revenues, surpassing the result of conventional production may be realized in organic farms. On the whole, the results obtained strengthen the standing-point of Szente, according to which the profit, originating from organic production may be higher, than that from conventional production, although it fails already to reach the saliently high values, which were characteristic of the earlier years. In production technology, upon the effect of the change in operational elements and elimination of chemical use, increased yield risk is to be taken into account, although at the same time, the possibility of a more successful operation will in-crease through the market premium price. Subsidy of each technology is different, which means, that allowances associated with the expectable future much better environment-saving technologies will further increase profitability. Also market changes may promote this process, since consumers and institutions become increasingly disposed to take a turn to goods, produced free from chemicals. It is indicated also by statistical data, that more and more producers are dealing with organic production and also the size of areas turned on organic farming is continuously increasing. The rhythm of the development of organic markets is still lagging behind this, but the possibility is open to the agricultural sector being in process of transition.     Quality and reporting of guidelines on the diagnosis and management of dystonia

    BACKGROUND: The quality of clinical practice guidelines on dystonia has not yet been assessed. Our aim was to appraise the methodological quality of guidelines worldwide and analyze the consistency of their recommendations. METHODS: We searched for clinical practice guidelines on dystonia diagnosis/treatment in the National Guideline Clearinghouse, PubMed, National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, Guidelines International Network and Web of Science databases. We also searched for guidelines on homepages of international neurological societies. We asked for guidelines from every Management Committee member of the BM1101 COST Action and every member of the International Parkinson and Movement Disorders Society with special interest in dystonia. RESULTS: Fifteen guidelines were evaluated. Among guidelines on treatment, only one from the American Academy of Neurology could be considered as high quality. Among guidelines on diagnosis and therapy, the guideline from the European Federation of Neurological Societies was recommended by the appraisers. Clinical applicability and reports of editorial independence were the greatest shortcomings. The rigor of development was poor, stakeholder involvement were also incomplete in most guidelines. Discrepancies among recommendations may result from the weight given to consensus statements and expert opinions due to the lack of evidence, as well as inaccuracy of disease classification. CONCLUSIONS: The quality of appraised guidelines was low. It is necessary to improve the quality of guidelines on dystonia; the applied terminology of dystonia also needs to be standardized. Towards this goal a significant step was successfully accomplished: synthesised antihydrogen atoms have been produced in a CUSP magnetic configuration and detected at the end of our spectrometer beam line in 2012 [1]. During a long shut down at CERN the ASACUSA-CUSP experiment had been renewed by introducing a new double-CUSP magnetic configuration and a new semi-cylindrical tracking detector (AMT) [2], and by improving the transport feature of low energy antiproton beams. The new tracking detector monitors the antihydrogen synthesis during the mixing cycle of antiprotons and positrons.     Measurement of the p n ---&gt; p p pi0 pi- reaction in search of the ABC resonance

    With pd collisions at T_p = 1.2 GeV exclusive measurements of the quasi-free pn -&gt; pppi^0pi^- reaction have been carried out. Using the WASA detector setup at COSY total and differential cross sections have been obtained for the energy region &amp;radics = 2.35 - 2.48 GeV. Though this includes the region of the ABC effect and its associated resonance structure, no low-mass enhancement (ABC effect) is found in the pi^0pi^--invariant mass spectrum - in agreement with the constraint from Bose statistics demanding the isovector pion pair to be in relative p-wave. Conventional calculations including t-channel processes for Roper, Delta(1600) and DeltaDelta excitations and their decays, which are well-known from the study of the two-pion production in pp collisions, provide a reasonable description of the data at high energies, but fall low at low energies. From this we conclude that a large contribution from a so far unknown isoscalar low-energy process is missed in the calculations. Inclusion of the ABC resonance at m = 2.37 GeV with Gamma = 70 MeV and I(J^P) = 0(3^+), which was recently observed in the pn -&gt; dpi^0pi^0 reaction, leads to a much improved description of the data at low energies.</p
