Além disso, ajudou a construir a imagem do Brasil no exterior. XX.Abstract : This research analyzes the life histories of William Gaelzer Netto (1874-1959), who was a member of the Rio Grande-Republican Party (PRR), municipal mayor of São Leopoldo (1902-1916) and director of the Department of Propaganda and Commercial Expansion Brazil-Germany (1936-1959). The Gaelzer Neto administration deeply marked the region of Vale do Rio dos Sinos. After abandoning political life, Gaelzer Netto went to Rio de Janeiro, held several positions with the federal government and devoted himself to international relations. A prominent element with the elite of the German ethnic group, Gaelzer Netto moved with easy from the circles of national and international power. Politicians, businessmen, intellectuals, merchants, were part of his network of sociability. His personal relations provided him international projection, taking him to Europe, especially to Germany, where he stimulated the political, social, economic and cultural Brazil-Germany interchange. Gaelzer Netto stood out in the recruitment of German immigrants and advertising of Brazilian products during the Weimar Republic, Nazi Germany and the post-war. In addition, he helped build the image of Brazil abroad. The biography of Gaelzer Netto analyzes the links that immigrant elites in Brazil had with Germany, discusses the strategies used by Gaelzer Netto to project himself at local, regional, national and international levels. The research explores several unpublished documentary sources available in the National Archives and abroad, especially in the German Ministry of files of Foreign Affairs and the Ibero-American Institute in Berlin. In this biography we discuss the intriguing history of this descendant of German immigrants who stood out among the various political groups, social, economic and cultural rights of Brazilian and German companies to thus defend the interests of the Brazilian and German government, the German ethnic group and their private interests. In the analysis of bureaucratic, diplomatic and personal documentary sources we seek to identify his action strategies, understand his identity as a public man, describe his sociability network and understand the adequacy of exercise necessary for the different contexts in which he lived. The biography of Gaelzer Netto provides us with a vision of diplomatic relations Brazil-Germany, especially in the dialogue he had with the German and Brazilian public authorities and provides us with different perspectives and interpretations of the Brazil-Germany relations in the first half of the XX century

Sonia Netto Salomão’s study examines the mechanism by which models - that belong to very specific cultural traditions - are transplanted and acculturated in post-colonial 19th-century Brazil. It focuses on Machado de Assis, an author who exemplified confrontation with the western canon, both ancient and modern, to illustrate how translations do not simply “transport” meaning. Salomão thus shows how a Shakespearean simile becomes a metaphor in Dom Casmurro, through a French eighteenth version. As she says, translations belong to diverse traditions and create other traditions, based on the reception of a given author’s poetics. She takes as a historical-cultural and theoretical backdrop a specific process within Brazilian culture, defined in the context of avant-garde Brazilian modernism as “Cannibalism”, and traces it back to the second half of the 19th century, demonstrating its power as a cultural paradigm

Archives created organically by individuals during their professional practice can serve as valuable research sources. When such records outlive their creator’s period of activity and are incorporated into custodial institutions for purposes of preservation and access, they acquire historical and scientific significance. The collection of architect Marcos Konder Netto (Blumenau, 1927 – Rio de Janeiro, 2021), now housed at the Research and Documentation Center of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (NPD FAU UFRJ), provides a representative example of the value of personal archives as academic research sources, underscoring the importance of their institutionalization. As an architect responsible for notable works in Rio de Janeiro, Marcos Konder Netto also became both civil servant and professor during the second half of the twentieth century, achieving a collection of records that document his professional and intellectual trajectory and contribute to the construction of the collective memory of a period and a region. This article seeks to present the stages and the methodology employed in the technical and academic treatment of this collection, highlighting its significance for the history of architecture as well as for studies of preservation and access to information. The historical origin and general history of vertical current total energy variometer, including its optimum airspeed selector ring are reviewed, and some later developments of it are discussed. Polars of three sailplanes of different spans are charted for straight and circling flight, then plotted to reveal their parabolic anomaly and the effect of circling flight sink rate. These effects are further analyzed for their influence on the transient compensation of NETTO variometers as well as the speed ring. Some other disturbances due to the quality of sailplane preparation and flight dynamics are listed. Conclusions are drawn about the problems to pilots from imperfect NETTO variometer compensation and its effect on the maximization of ground speed from the speed ring. A modification for improvements to the speed ring and computer is suggested

Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Comunicação e Expressão. Programa de Pós-Graduação em Letras/Inglês e Literatura CorrespondenteThis dissertation analyzes the reformulations of Brazilian gaucho identity in three contemporary Brazilian productions that retell the history of Farrapos War: the films Anahy de las Misiones (1997) and Netto Perde sua Alma (2001), as well as the television series A Casa das Sete Mulheres (2003). The importance of historical fiction in the discussion of cultural identities becomes clear in Hall#s description of identity as our continuous repositioning in relation to the narratives of the past. The revision of history in the films and the series is investigated in relation to the diverse views of postmodern fiction in the works of Fredric Jameson and Linda Hutcheon. The analysis of the television series also takes into account the different positions about the contemporary impulse of nostalgia theorized by Andrew Higson and Andreas Huyssen. Finally, the analyses draw on Àngel Rama#s concept of transculturation, as the revision of regional content in the light of a new proposal to compose a renewed heritage that can be identified with the past, for the examination of cultural identities. Based on the readings in this study, the productions discussed are regarded as loci of intercultural dialogue; and the reformulations of Brazilian gaucho identity in those productions are understood as transcultural onesEsta dissertação analisa as reformulações da identidade do gaúcho brasileiro em três produções contemporâneas que recontam a história da Guerra dos Farrapos: os filmes Anahy de las Misiones (1997) e Netto Perde sua Alma (2001), e a série de televisão A Casa das Sete Mulheres (2003).
