No full textDit hoofdstuk wil onderzoeken wat de rol van de Europese Unie inzake armoedebestrijding kan zijn, gegeven dat dit goed werkende nationale welvaartsstaten veronderstelt. Doorheen de jaren werd duidelijk dat de Europese Unie niet alleen moet inzetten op meer economische integratie, maar ook op meer sociaal beleid. Hoewel de Unie heel wat instrumenten in handen heeft op dit vlak, zijn er ook vele hindernissen die een sociaal beleid bemoeilijken. Groeiende ongelijkheden tussen en binnen de lidstaten, onder meer ten gevolge van de financieel-economische crisis, wijzen er op dat de rol van de Europese Unie op dit vlak versterkt moet worden. We pleiten in dit hoofdstuk dan ook voor een ‘Europese Sociale Unie’ die nationale welvaartsstaten ondersteunt op enkele cruciale domeinen

Selected for the 89 paintings were major representatives of Parisian illumination, including Jean Pichore, Jean Coene IV, and their collaborators. They excel in depicting a rich narrative and they portray royal assassinations as repellent, in line with the moral, political, and religious project of the work.Le Recueil sommaire des cronicques françoises (Paris, BnF, fr 2817-2822) a été offert à François Ier par son auteur, un des chefs de file des Grands rhétoriqueurs, Guillaume Cretin. Ont été retenus pour les 89 peintures des représentants majeurs de l’enluminure parisienne Jean Pichore, Jean Coene IV et leurs collaborateurs. Extreme ultraviolet lensless imaging without object support through rotational diversity in diffractive shearing interferometry
No full textWe report on a method that allows microscopic image reconstruction from extreme-ultraviolet diffraction patterns without the need for object support constraints or other prior knowledge about the object structure. This is achieved by introducing additional diversity through rotation of an object in a rotationally asymmetric probe beam, produced by the spatial interference between two phase-coherent high-harmonic beams. With this rotational diffractive shearing interferometry method, we demonstrate robust image reconstruction of microscopic objects at wavelengths around 30 nm, using images recorded at only three to five different object rotations.ImPhys/Optic
Combining ptychographical algorithms with the Hybrid Input-Output (HIO) algorithm
No full textAbstractIn this article we combine the well-known Ptychographical Iterative Engine (PIE) with the Hybrid Input-Output (HIO) algorithm. The important insight is that the HIO feedback function should be kept strictly separate from the reconstructed object, which is done by introducing a separate feedback function per probe position. We have also combined HIO with floating PIE (fPIE) and extended PIE (ePIE). Simulations indicate that the combined algorithm performs significantly better in many situations. Although we have limited our research to a combination with HIO, the same insight can be used to combine ptychographical algorithms with any phase retrieval algorithm that uses a feedback function
Charlemagne's challenge: the periodic latency problem.
No full textLatency problems are characterized by their focus on minimizing the waiting time for all clients. We study periodic latency problems, a non-trivial extension of standard latency problems. In a periodic latency problem each client has to be visited regularly: there is a server traveling at unit speed, and there is a set of n clients with given positions. The server must visit the clients over and over again, subject to the constraint that successive visits to client i are at most qi time units away from each other. We investigate two main problems. In problem PLPP the goal is to find a repeatable route for the server visiting as many clients as possible, without violating their qi's. In problem PLP the goal is to minimize the number of servers needed to serve all clients. In dependence on the topol- ogy of the underlying network, we derive polynomial-time algorithms or hardness results for these two problems.
