Predicting American presidential election outcomes based on candidates' power, affiliation and achievement motives
Three social motives, the need for power, achievement and affiliation, combine to form the configuration of the Leadership Motive Pattern (LMP) that has been shown to predict leadership effectiveness. It is hypothesized in this study that the motives will also predict electoral success. Twenty nomination acceptance speeches from the Democratic and Republican conventions from 1972 to 2008 were coded for need for power, achievement, affiliation and activity inhibition (i.e., concern with the moral exercise of power). Results revealed that power motivation was positively and significantly related to winning the general presidential elections, whereas achievement and affiliation motivation were positively but not significantly related to winning. Activity inhibition and the LMP variable (i.e., moderate to high need for power, need for power higher than need for affiliation and moderate to high activity inhibition) did not have an impact on presidential election outcomes. Several mechanisms explaining how the motives contribute to getting elected are proposed. Limitations of the study and future prospects are also discussed.Psy.DIncludes bibliographical referencesby Fatos Kusar

Characters in Fatos Kongoli Novel
The greater philosopher,Aristotle, dealing with the characters would have said that “due to the fact that they imitate, they imitate acting people, and these people will, of course, be good or evil because characters almost always follow these two peculiarities and it is known that the difference of the character of all the people is done by the good or the evilâ€. Even though in the novels of our author, Fatos Kongoli, no such traditional line is followed, such distinction is perceptible in every literature and at any time, and of course, in the novels, we are analyzing. Literary scholar Anton Berisha says that "literary character is an important component element, especially of epic creations, may they be prose or poetryâ€. Berisha also adds that "they are known extremely successful realizations of the characters in the traditional novel, but also in contemporary and generally modern characters, are noteworthy, but also we do not miss the lyrical characters through which the subjective world is introduced.

Efficacy of TNF alpha inhibitors for refractory vascular Behcet's disease: A multicenter observational study of 27 patients and a review of the literature
Objectives Vascular involvement is one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality in Behcet's disease (BD) patients. Immunosuppressive (IS) agents are the mainstay of vascular BD (VBD) treatment; however, up to one-third of patients relapse under conventional ISs. In this case series, we present the results of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF alpha) inhibitor use for the treatment of VBD patients who were refractory to conventional ISs and corticosteroids. Methods This retrospective multicenter study included 27 refractory VBD patients treated with TNF alpha inhibitor agents. All data were acquired from patient charts. Results Complete clinical remission was achieved in 22 (80%) patients within 3 months of the initiation of TNF alpha inhibitors. Infliximab was the first choice of TNF alpha inhibitor in 24 and adalimumab in three patients. The median daily dose of corticosteroids significantly decreased at 3 months. A trend toward a higher rate of complete remission was observed with concomitant IS use compared to monotherapy of TNF alpha inhibitors (93% vs 67%, P = .09). Serious side effects were observed in two patients (one pneumonia and one tuberculosis). Conclusion Tumor necrosis factor-alpha inhibitors seem a highly effective option for remission-induction of refractory VBD with an acceptable safety data. Concomitant IS use may achieve higher complete remission rates as compared to TNF alpha inhibitor monotherapy. Comparative efficacy and safety of biological agents for VBD require further prospective, randomized controlled studies with a longer duration of follow-up

A especificidade da representação dos fatos históricos em "Esaú e Jacó", de Machado de Assis * The specificity of historical representation in "Esaú e Jacó", by Machado de Assis
This paper intends to analyze the special way Machado de Assis builds the representation of Brazilian historical facts in the novel Esaú e Jacó. This novel brings in its plot two important historical events that happened in the late Nineteenth century: the Abolition of Slavery, in 1888; and the Proclamation of the Republic, in 1889. The literary treatment given by the author to the events, printing irrelevance to them, in the context of the plot, reveals that to build a Brazilian realism, in those circumstances, it was necessary to show the course of history based on the absence of transformation.O presente artigo trata de analisar o modo particular como Machado de Assis constrói a representação dos fatos históricos brasileiros no romance Esaú e Jacó.
The hybrid idea of a discourse: The position of the author-creator in Leite Derramado
Leite Derramado, a novel published by Chico Buarque in 2009, presents in its narrative the presence of two discourses. In the foreground, the reader follows the saga of a narrator who reveals his intimacies through memory; in the background, the figure of the author-creator ironizes the facts of the protagonist’s life, trying to present to the reader another view of the facts. Therefore, when one perceives that the voice of the author-creator is marked by ambivalence and irony, this work aims to trace the ethical objectives, which, together with the aesthetics, seek to represent the worldview of a lost subject in the symbolic heteroglossia of life.
