Visual aspects in urban woodland management and planning
Urban woodland is an important component of people's everyday environment, both as an attractive environment to visit as well as being an intrinsic part of the surrounding landscape. This thesis focuses on one specific aspect of the urban woodland - the visual. The visual aspect is how most people experience the woodland, both when visiting and as part of their everyday landscape. In order to take visual aspects into account there is a need to have tools and approaches for analysing and describing these. This thesis highlights the importance of management context as well as providing tools for the spatial analysis of visual aspects. The methods used are a combination of predictive modelling, literature reviews and visibility analysis. Based on landscape aesthetic theories, a set of visual concepts were distinguished that were also supported by management guidelines. These visual concepts are: diversity, scale, visual accessibility, stewardship, naturalness and coherence. Visual concepts are presented both in relation to their theoretical basis and to the physical attributes influencing them. Visibility analysis was explored as a way of modelling visual aspects in urban woodland management and planning, with a focus on woodland as an important visual element in the landscape. Visibility models were developed as a way of analysing the contents of the view with regards to woodland. Using a case study area in Aberdeen, Scotland, the contents of the view were analysed both in relation to preferred forest types as well as for the concept of visual diversity. In addition to the focus on visual aspects, this thesis also highlights facets of the management context that influence visual management. These are urban pressure, cultural context and management paradigm. These three factors are important for interpreting and understanding the way management and planning strategies are carried out and hence offer insights into visual resource management. The result of the thesis provides a framework for including visual aspects in urban woodland management and planning as well as being a base for future research within the field
This thesis includes developing a website as a digital marketing channel for the sewing courses in Pedersöre Adult Education Centre. The aim was to get more participants to the sewing courses and encourage the current participants to continue participating. Åsa Nyberg–Sundqvist, principal of Pedersöre Adult Education Centre, was acting as the supervisor.
A description of marketing and traditional and digital marketing channels and the distinction between those were included in the theoretical part. A description of the liberal adult education and Adult Education Centre in general as well as developing of website were presented as theoretical parts in this thesis. The marketing of Pedersöre Adult Education Centre during 2002-2021 was described by two interviews. The theory on creating websites worked as a background to the practical part and the development of the website for the commissioner.
As research method on the marketing of Pedersöre Adult Education Centre an interview with interview guide were made. As background and research methods for the developing of the website were used different literature studies, web searches and the author´s continuing education in digital competences for teaching in liberal adult education. During the developing of the website two different digital website programs and tools were tested and compared, to get the most optimized look and use for sewing courses in Pedersöre Adult Education Centre.
The thesis resulted in a website for sewing courses in Pedersöre Adult Education Centre. The process of developing the website and the result were discussed and suggestions for future marketing were given to the commissioner
Landscape assessment in metropolitan areas – developing a visual indicator-based approach
Many studies have addressed landscape preferences in rural settings, identifying key aspects and elements of the visual landscape important for people's appreciation. Information about these characteristics of landscapes has then been used as bases for indicator frameworks linking measurable indicators to landscape aesthetic theory. However, there is a need to expand and develop these frameworks to be relevant for assessment of metropolitan landscapes. Nine key concepts, identified by Tveit et al. (2006) and Ode et al (2008), in existing frameworks for visual landscape assessment, stewardship, naturalness, complexity, imageability, visual scale, historicity, coherence, disturbance and ephemera, are revisited in a metropolitan context, identifying landscape elements and indicators relevant for measuring visual landscape character in metropolitan areas. The study reviews existing evidence of people's landscape preferences relating to urban landscapes and links this knowledge to map-based indicators that can be used by planners and decision-makers responsible for the management and monitoring of landscapes. This paper presents the key concepts in development of a theoretical framework for visual landscape assessment in metropolitan areas
Crime with Loss of Context : How the Translation Changed the Implied Reader of Åsa Larsson’s The Savage Altar: Innocence Will Be Sacrificed
The implied reader of a novel is the person that the author writes for. In the case of Åsa Larsson’s Swedish detective novel Solstorm, the implied reader is familiar with Swedish politics, history, and geography but also with biblical references and Swedish customs. When the novel is translated into English, The Savage Altar: Innocence will be Sacrificed, there is a new implied reader, the translator’s implied reader. When culture-specific material is either omitted or misunderstood, or a cultural filter changes the material to suit the new target audience, the context of the novel is also changed. The result is a loss of context
Landscape change and its effects on the visual experience of a case study area in the Öresunds region
The study focuses on landscape change, from an historical perspective (year 1915) and as a discussion of future changes (year 2015) for a case study area in southern Sweden. The historical situation is based on map data while the situation of 2015 is a predictive modelling based on spatial planning and policy documents for the case study area. The study identifies changes in land cover and their spatial distribution within the landscape. The result is discussed in relation to perceived change as well as the areas sensitivity to change. The paper further outlines implications of the result for management and planning in the context of the European Landscape Convention
Fyra forskares informationsförsörjning och bibliotekets roll i denna process : en fallstudie på AstraZeneca R&D i Lund
Information is essential in order for pharmaceutical companies to be successful. This essay focuses on the information provision of pre-clinical scientists at AstraZeneca R&D Lund, and the role of the company library in this process. In semi-structured interviews, four pre-clinical scientists were asked to describe their information provision regarding what type of information they need, how they find it and what sources of information they use. Four librarians from the company library were also interviewed to give their perspective on the information provision of pre-clinical scientist. The study also aimed at comparing the image of the process as described by the scientists themselves and the librarians. The result of the interviews regarding what type of information is needed and used corresponds with previous studies described in the literature available scientific journals, conferences and personal contacts are the main sources of information. The scientists do most of their information seeking themselves, a process that has been made easier by information technology. Regarding the role of the library, it appears the scientist think of the library mainly as a physical room. They speak of the information seeking expertise of the librarians, but the main focus is on the print journals available in the actual library room. Even though the interviewed scientists mention that the library holds training courses, and that the librarians can help with information searches, they are still worried that the library will cease to exist if print journals are exchanged for electronic ones. Thus, there seems to be a need for the librarians to make their users more aware of what services they can provide apart from making print journals available. Comparing the image of the information provision of pre-clinical scientists given by scientists and librarians, no big contradictions appear. Naturally, the scientist know more about their working situation and the librarians know more about what services the library provides. Also the librarians know more about information provision in general terms, since it is part of their profession. One of the interviewed librarians made a remark worth quoting - It looks easier than it is

The challenge of enhancing accessibility to recreational landscapes
In recent years the relationship between outdoor recreation and public health has been increasingly acknowledged. One way planners and policymakers can promote physical activity within their administrative areas is to stimulate more people to engage in outdoor recreation. However, a prerequisite for outdoor recreation is accessibility to recreational landscapes. In current research, the terms 'access' and 'accessibility' are defined and used in different ways. In order to provide planners and policymakers responsible for urban green structure with useful tools for promoting outdoor recreation, there is a need to find ways for accessibility to be measured and mapped in ways reflecting the different dimensions of perceived accessibility. The literature review identifies the key dimensions describing accessibility to recreational landscapes and the related attributes that can be assessed when studying peoples' perceived accessibility. Two main dimensions of perceived accessibility are identified: physical accessibility (related to attributes in the physical landscape), and cultural, social, or sociopsychological accessibility (related to attributes of the observer). The author concludes that researchers, planners, policymakers, and others aiming to assess accessibility to a recreational landscape need to make conscious choices regarding which dimensions and attributes of perceived accessibility should be included based on the purpose of their assessment
To learn across Internal Organizational Boarders and Responsibilites – challenges and facilitators
To Learn across Internal Organizational Boarders and Responsibilities – challenges and facilitators. Author Doctor Klockmo, Carolina, Mittuniversitetet, Sundsvall, Sverige. Co-author(s)PhD. Tjulin, Åsa, Mittuniversitetet, Sundsvall, Sverige (Presenting Author).BackgroundThis study explores enabling and challenging factors for a co-creating process across units in social services within a Swedish municipality. In this context, co-creating process is defined as everyone's perspective has a value, belief in a common energies towards a common goal, and co-creation of a new working method through "learning by doing". The development process under study aims at promoting more sustainable inclusion of vulnerable individuals in working life.MethodsThe study design was qualitative longitudinal. Data was gathered through triangulation using social media platform, documents and interviews during nine months.ResultsThe enabling factors: (1) agile leadership (2) close, continuous and situational support, visibility and transparency (3) arenas for social interaction, primarily through dialogue. The challenging factors: (1) to get caught in old ways of working and the struggle to find new paths (2) to get stuck - to cross organisational boundaries and professional roles for reflexive learning and common ground (3) timing - the same pace of development for each work unit.ConclusionTo cross and merge organizational boundaries is challenging due to new expectations from the organization, new role functions of professionals, finding common and new paths and interventions for labor market inclusion across work units for vulnerable individuals. The conclusion so far point at factors as trust, compliance, sensitivity and time for reflection and dialogue is vital for development progress and learning, where the involvement of personnel is important. The process must also be built on a solid plan from the start.Close</p
