The aim of this research is to identify and investigate level of usage of OPAC system among UiTM Dungun students. The research attempts to investigate students preferences of using OPAC system, information provided by the OPAC system, graphical user interface (GUI) about OPAC system, student's knowledge about OPAC system, students satisfaction using the OPAC system, problems faced when using the OPAC system and the features that students use when they are using the OPAC system. A questionnaire survey was chosen for this research. 169 written questionnaires were distributed and there are two damaged questionnaires. Majority of the students have come to library indicated that they have used the OPAC system to find the books and also the journal but did not use it often for other reasons. The most popular search types are title search, subject search, and author keyword search and publication year. The results also showed that majority of the respondents found that the OPAC helpful to search books effectively. The study also found that students are not aware of other facilities that are available in OPAC. They often conducted simple searches to find the books and tend to conduct known item searches since they are unaware of other features available

Organisational receptivity for change:combining context and capability to explain competitive advantage

This thesis explores efforts to conjoin organisational contexts and capabilities in explaining sustainable competitive advantage. Oliver (1997) argued organisations need to balance the need to conform to industry’s requirements to attain legitimization (e.g. DiMaggio & Powell, 1983), and the need for resource optimization (e.g. Barney, 1991). The author hypothesized that such balance can be viewed as movements along the homogeneity-heterogeneity continuum. An organisation in a homogenous industry possesses similar characteristics as its competitors, as opposed to a heterogeneous industry in which organisations within are differentiated and competitively positioned (Oliver, 1997). The movement is influenced by the dynamic environmental conditions that an organisation is experiencing. The author extended Oliver’s (1997) propositions of combining RBV’s focus on capabilities with institutional theory’s focus on organisational context, as well as redefining organisational receptivity towards change (ORC) factors from Butler and Allen’s (2008) findings. The authors contributed to the theoretical development of ORC theory to explain the attainment of sustainable competitive advantage. ORC adopts the assumptions from both institutional and RBV theories, where the receptivity factors include both organisational contexts and capabilities. The thesis employed a mixed method approach in which sequential qualitative quantitative studies were deployed to establish a robust, reliable, and valid ORC scale. The adoption of Hinkin’s (1995) three-phase scale development process was updated, thus items generated from interviews and literature reviews went through numerous exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to achieve convergent, discriminant, and nomological validities. Samples in the first phase (semi structured interviews) were hotel owners and managers. In the second phase, samples were MBA students, and employees of private and public sectors. In the third phase, samples were hotel managers. The final ORC scale is a parsimonious second higher-order latent construct. The first-order constructs comprises four latent receptivity factors which are ideological vision (4 items), leading change (4 items), implementation capacity (4 items), and change orientation (7 items). Hypotheses testing revealed that high levels of perceived environmental uncertainty leads to high levels of receptivity factor. Furthermore, the study found a strong positive correlation between receptivity factors and competitive advantage, and between receptivity factors and organisation performance. Mediation analyses revealed that receptivity factors partially mediate the relationship between perceived environmental uncertainty, competitive advantage and organisational performance

Spiral Motion of Air Bubbles in Multiphase Mixing for Wastewater Treatment

AbstractVortex flow forms due to spiral motion of the air bubbles around water in the aeration tank. The formation of vortices would indicate the mixing pattern of water and air in the aeration tank. The mixing of two phases such as air-water or water-air flow systems in the aeration tank is important to increase oxygen transfer efficiency in aeration process. With different process parameters of the aeration tank such as the diameter of pore size of the membrane, diameter of diffuser and air mass flow rate are simulated using ANSYSTM CFD software. When the air mass flow rate increasing, the diameter of pore size decreasing, the air-water or vice versa are mixed homogenously and increases the oxygen transfer efficiency. The air-water mixing efficiency increases if the diameter of membrane pore size decreases at higher mass flow rate and the diameter of diffuser is in the practical range which is between 4 to 12. An improvement of vortices occurs in an aeration tank when higher strength of air velocity curl occurs

Social media, as a virtual platform for social contact, has undoubtedly brought about significant social changes over time, thanks to the ever-advancing technology of today. As society progresses, the way individuals behave can vary between their actions in the physical world and their actions in the online realm. The omnipresent TikTok application has enthralled a wide array of populations, encompassing both the privileged and the labouring class, across various age brackets. Social change refers to a fundamental shift in the structure and functioning of social relationships, encompassing aspects such as power dynamics, decision-making processes, social influence, family connections, and population patterns. In this instance, the author will examine how the TikTok application might effectively redirect individuals' desires towards an institution or the public in the virtual realm. This research employs a qualitative approach through a literature review, wherein prior studies are analysed and synthesized to create a new body of literature

The combination of natural ingredients derived from the sea and land for cosmetics has not been done much. Natural ingredients that are known to have good properties for the skin are jicama and seaweed so the objective of this study was to formulate seaweed (Kappaphycus alvarezii) and jicama (Pachyrhizus erosus) as a body lotion. The objective in this study was to determine the best body lotion preparations from seaweed (K. alvarezii) and jicama (P. erosus). The combination of seaweed and jicama as much as 15% with the formulation of seaweed and jicama were F1 (1:2), F2 (1:1), and F3 (2:1) with Completely Randomized Design, respectively. Organoleptic test results from body lotion including aroma, color, texture, and absorption in all treatments were not significantly different, except in controls. In all treatments, the type of emulsions was O/W and homogeneous. The pH values at F0, F1, F2, and F3 were 7.82; 7.97; 8.04 and 8.09. The viscosity test results found that the best treatment was F1 (16,941 cPs), while for antioxidant activity was the F3 treatment (1,656 µg/ml). Based on antioxidant performance, it was best to treat F3 for body lotion from K. alvarezii seaweed and jicama powder

This evaluation study sets out to investigate the effectiveness of the writing component of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) English syllabus in Bangladesh. The aims of the research were (i) to discover the needs and problems of students with regard to writing; and the purposes for which they need to communicate in writing in English; (ii) to identify their strengths and weaknesses in different aspects of writing; (iii) to gather perceptions of teachers and students on the writing process and to compare these with actual classroom practice with a view to characterising the approach to the teaching of writing in the Bangladeshi HSC context; (iv) to collect views on the syllabus and textbook and to determine if there was a match between student needs and the syllabus; and (v) to suggest recommendations for improving writing skills in the classroom. This thesis is divided into nine chapters. Chapter 1 sets the context of the study by presenting its objectives, significance and research questions. A brief account of the history of the Revised English Syllabus is also presented. Chapters 2 and 3 contain reviews of the literature relevant to the field of writing and evaluation. Chapter 2 examines writing as 'composing' and 'text' and the different approaches to writing pedagogy. Findings from a couple of studies on the implementation of the process approach in different contexts are also presented. Chapter 3 explores the different approaches to evaluation and provides the framework for this evaluation study. The design features and the procedures employed in the study are given in chapter 4. To achieve methodological triangulation a series of instruments was used as well as data collected from a range of stakeholders. For the purposes of this study a marking scheme was designed to analyse the writing samples of students. Chapters 5 to 7 present and analyse the data. More specifically chapter 5 deals with the analysis of findings about the writing process, i.e. the collation of perceptions and the actual practice of writing in class. Chapter 6 examines the purposes, needs and problems of learners with regard to writing and also concentrates on the evaluation of the HSC writing syllabus. The analysis of students' Writing Tasks and the Examination Compositions are dealt with in chapter 7. Chapter 8 focuses on the discussion of the findings, followed by recommendations. In addition, a discussion on the socio-cultural appropriateness of borrowing western methodologies for local contexts is also highlighted. Finally, a summary of the main results from the empirical evaluation study and their implications are presented in chapter 9. The limitations of the study are also acknowledged in this last chapter. The findings of the study revealed a disparity between students needs and what the HSC writing syllabus contains, and its actual implementation in the classroom. The teachers adopted an approach to writing which was overridingly form-focused and hence, product oriented. They performed roles which were traditional e.g. the teacher as purveyor of knowledge and evaluator. Teachers lack training in areas specific to the development of writing skills and are unaware of recent developments in writing approaches. There was no evidence in this study of promoting or encouraging the strategies of skilled writers in the classes observed. This study has contributed to the documentation of curriculum evaluation studies in the context of Bangladesh, as well as frameworks for the assessment of writing skills for use in this context. An awareness has been raised about the hindering and helpful factors in bringing about change and general caution is suggested in the making of foreign methodologies appropriate to the local Bangladeshi situation. Based on the findings of this study, recommendations are also made in relation to curriculum development and pedagogy
