    No full text
This thesis aims to analyse the impacts of the entry of the direct foreign investment of Futaba Czech s. r. o. on Havlíčkův Brod region. The introductory part contains a list of the sources reporting on the company{\crq}s investment decisions. Various aspects concerning the localization factors are included as well. Next part focuses on examining Futaba Czech s. r. o. in particular but also partly on Sklo Bohemi, a. s. and Pleas, a. s. They represent the three largest companies in Havlíčkův Brod region. The main aim of the author of the work was to find out how these three companies influence each other, even though each of them is interested in a different branch of industry. The following hypotheses are examined in the thesis: 1) Funding of FCZ by short-term credits indicates an existence of the significant insecurity, which can cause some doubts about company{\crq}s ability to continue to work according to principle based on continuation unlimited by time. 2) Benefit of the direct foreign investment of Futaba for the region is substantial at the present time and the impacts on the social environment are considerable as well. 3) Termination of operations of the company Sklo Bohemia, a. s. has influenced the social conditions of Havlíčkův Brod region significantly and it has had an influence on the operation of the companies Futaba Czech s. r. o. and Pleas, a. s. All three hypotheses have been verified in the thesis. The last part of the work gives the report of the evaluation of the hypotheses in question and a supposition, that the examined company might leave Czech market, because the results of its management are getting worse, is expressed

Nagasaki University (長崎大学)博士(医学)Temporal variation and fluctuation in environmental contamination in Futaba town and Okuma town, the location of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant (FDNPP), were evaluated based on a car-borne survey conducted from October 2021 to November 2022. Although the environmental radioactivity in the interim storage facility area (ISF) was higher than that in open areas (i.e., the evacuation order lifted areas in Futaba town and the Specific Reconstruction and Regeneration Base area [SRRB] in Okuma town), only minor temporal changes were seen in the ambient dose and detection rate of radiocesium (the proportion of radiocesium detected points per all measuring points) in those areas, respectively. These findings suggest that the observed variations may result from physical decay and environmental remediation. Resuspension caused by human activities and weather could also affect the detection rate of radiocesium. The annual external effective doses in Futaba town and Okuma town were estimated to be at a limited level (< 1 mSv/year). Nevertheless, to help ensure the safety and future prosperity of residents and communities in the affected areas around the FDNPP, long-term follow-up monitoring of temporal exposure dose levels during the recovery and reconstruction phases is extremely important.

Morphological differences in skulls and feeding apparatuses between Antarctic and common minke whales, and the implication for their feeding ecology

    No full text
The differences in rorqual feeding ecology have been linked to the presence of different morphological markers. The Antarctic minke whale (Balaenoptera bonaerensis Burmeister, 1867) and common minke whale (Balaenoptera acutorostrata Lacpde, 1804) are closely related species, but their morphological differences have not been fully investigated. In this study, we compared 21 skull and 11 feeding apparatuses (baleen and mouth-related parts) measurement points between these two species using hundreds of individuals covering a wide range of body lengths in both sexes. Their engulfment capacities were estimated using these measurements. Our results show that Antarctic minke whales have (1) proportionally larger skulls to the body length, (2) more dorsoventrally and laterally curved rostra, (3) proportionally larger feeding apparatuses to the condylobasal length, and (4) significantly larger engulfment capacity than common minke whales. These differences could indicate that Antarctic minke whales have developed a feeding strategy suitable for feeding on krill, which forms large schools. In contrast, common minke whales have adapted to prey on small pelagic fishes that are agile and form small schools. The presentation of the authors' names and (or) special characters in the title of the pdf file of the accepted manuscript may differ slightly from what is displayed on the item page. This paper analyzes the archives of stores in Namie Town, Fukushima Prefecture, affected by the Tokyo Electric Power Company's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident, and discusses their utilization. Specifically, it focuses on the case of the Japanese restaurant "Shinohara," which operated a restaurant in Namie Town, Futaba District, Fukushima Prefecture, where people could not return due to the nuclear accident. The archives of the Japanese restaurant "Shinohara" consisted of 202 records, with half of them being local information magazines. There was a difference in the degradation between the materials left in the restaurant due to the nuclear accident and those left in the office space. After creating a catalog again, it was evaluated as a collection of materials that could speak to the nuclear accident. The discovery of these points was made possible through interviews, revealing the crucial role of interviews in understanding the context of the material. These materials were positioned as valuable resources for narrating the nuclear accident, along with the "life magazine" reproduction.departmental bulletin pape

Three‐Dimensional Vascular Structure of Caudal and Dorsal Fins of a Dwarf Sperm Whale

    No full text
ABSTRACT Previous studies have described two distinct vascular systems in cetacean fins. However, these studies have been limited to Delphinoidea species, with little information on their three‐dimensional structures. In this study, the anatomical analysis of the caudal and dorsal fins of a dwarf sperm whale was conducted using X‐ray computed tomography and gross dissection with staining, providing the first confirmation of the two vascular systems in the fins of the family Kogiidae. This finding suggested that these vascular systems are common across Odontoceti species. In addition, we observed unique three‐dimensional structures in the superficial veins, which formed a reticulate pattern in both fins and converged at the centerline at the base of the dorsal fin, potentially influencing individual's heat reduction capabilities

This article examines the creation, the transfer, and the management of documents in modern times, especially some aspects of the territory control, in the case of the Sōma Nakamura Domain. The Sōma Nakamura Domain owned the whole region where current Shinchi-machi, Sōma-shi, Minami-Sōma-shi, Iitate-mura, Katsurao-mura, Namie-machi, Futaba-machi, and Ōkuma-machi are located, and the domain was worth 60,000-koku. Due to the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, many of those areas are classified "difficult-to-return zone" or "zone-in-preparation-for-the-lifting-of-the-evacuation-order" (formerly known as "restricted areas" and "planned evacuation areas"). In those disaster-stricken areas, relief and conservation of historical materials are still continuing, and many new historical materials are discovered. The document management history of the area based on the archives studies of each area is essential in grasping the contents of newly-discovered historical materials. This article discusses the creation, transfer, and management of documents conducted by Kimoiri, the administrator of Gō (a unit of local administration) in the Sōma Domain by mainly using Zai-Gō-Yakunin-Shokumu-Shōtei, a material issued to the local government from Han-chō (main government office of each Domain). A lot of documents were being created indeed. In addition, in the village where was carried out methods for rebuilding agricultural management and reviving rural areas through living guidance of farmers focusing on thrift and saving money, which was called Hōtoku-shihō and which was proposed at the end of the Tokugawa period, a vast amount of document were being managed.departmental bulletin pape

I remember teaching at Seabrook School

    No full text
In this "I remember" memoir, Olive Dougherty, a second-grade teacher from Seabrook School, recalls her past students. She enjoyed teaching at Seabrook because of her exposure to diverse cultures and backgrounds. Seabrook teachers were encouraged to visit students and their families in their homes, as well as to invite students to their houses. This community closeness helped alleviate the fears of students who initially felt lost and isolated in their new, unfamiliar homes. Ms. Dougherty has stayed in contact with many of her former students, some of whom have become teachers themselves. The Seabrook Educational and Cultural Center has been soliciting current and past residents of Seabrook Farms for an "I remember" project. Residents are asked to create narratives regarding their experiences at Seabrook Farms. These memories help preserve the history and multi-cultural heritage of Seabrook Farms
