iMarNet: an ocean biogeochemistry model intercomparison project within a common physical ocean modelling framework

Ocean biogeochemistry (OBGC) models span a wide variety of complexities, including highly simplified nutrient-restoring schemes, nutrient–phytoplankton–zooplankton–detritus (NPZD) models that crudely represent the marine biota, models that represent a broader trophic structure by grouping organisms as plankton functional types (PFTs) based on their biogeochemical role (dynamic green ocean models) and ecosystem models that group organisms by ecological function and trait. OBGC models are now integral components of Earth system models (ESMs), but they compete for computing resources with higher resolution dynamical setups and with other components such as atmospheric chemistry and terrestrial vegetation schemes. As such, the choice of OBGC in ESMs needs to balance model complexity and realism alongside relative computing cost. Here we present an intercomparison of six OBGC models that were candidates for implementation within the next UK Earth system model (UKESM1). The models cover a large range of biological complexity (from 7 to 57 tracers) but all include representations of at least the nitrogen, carbon, alkalinity and oxygen cycles. Each OBGC model was coupled to the ocean general circulation model Nucleus for European Modelling of the Ocean (NEMO) and results from physically identical hindcast simulations were compared. Model skill was evaluated for biogeochemical metrics of global-scale bulk properties using conventional statistical techniques. The computing cost of each model was also measured in standardised tests run at two resource levels. No model is shown to consistently outperform all other models across all metrics. Nonetheless, the simpler models are broadly closer to observations across a number of fields and thus offer a high-efficiency option for ESMs that prioritise high-resolution climate dynamics. However, simpler models provide limited insight into more complex marine biogeochemical processes and ecosystem pathways, and a parallel approach of low-resolution climate dynamics and high-complexity biogeochemistry is desirable in order to provide additional insights into biogeochemistry–climate interactions

In order to the preparation of biodegradable, bioactive and strongly adhered coating layer to the bioinert zirconia substrate, a bioactive glass (BG) was successfully coated on the zirconia plates. To achieve this goal, the zirconia plates dipped into the 45S5 BG sol in the vacuum chamber (vacuum sol-dipping method) followed by sintering to fabricate a strongly adhered BG coating on the zirconia plates. The parameters such as surface morphology and BG coating coverage ability on the zirconia plates have been assessed before and after coating with 45S5 BG. Phase structure of the BG coating based on the X-ray diffraction (XRD) result could be indexed as Na4Ca4(Si6O18). The interfacial adhesive strength between the zirconia substrate and BG coating layer was higher than the measured adhesive strength (55±7 MPa). The viability results approved the satisfying conclusion for the offered coating method on the zirconia substrates.

This study aims to determine how important the procedure for cleaning the toilet room of PT Carefast at BG Junction Mall Surabaya is, it can be concluded that the toilet attendants work according to well-defined cleaning procedures. This research is a descriptive study in which the authors conduct direct research for 3 months, data collection is done by observation and interviews as well as documentation and literature study to find and collect data about things in the form of notes and photos. Therefore, in this work the author aims to find out more about the procedures for cleaning the toilet room of PT Carefast at BG Junction Mall Surabaya. Based on this research, the author states that the standard operating procedure for cleaning the toilet room of PT Carefast at BG Junction Mall Surabaya is going well, although there are some obstacles in the work process that do not affect the regular cleaning of the toilet, this is very helpful in keeping the toilet clean, dry and odorles

Thesis (Ph. D.)--Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology, 2005.This electronic version was submitted by the student author. The certified thesis is available in the Institute Archives and Special Collections.Includes bibliographical references (p. 153-166).The basal ganglia (BG) are a group of highly interconnected nuclei buried deep in the brain. They are involved in an important range of brain functions, including both lower-level movement control and higher-level cognitive decision making. Dysfunction of the BG has been linked to human neurological disorders such as Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, and schizophrenia. This thesis proposes a unified functional model of the BG, called multi-input multi-output adaptive switching (MIMOAS) model that attempts to account for the role of the BG in both higher-level rote behavior and lower-level motor control. In the model, BG circuitry effectively implements a large set of parallel noncompetitive logical OR and NOR circuits that can be driven by specific patterns of cortical activity. These afford selective gating of target thalamocortical neurons. This process can be viewed as a general mapping between binary context and response vectors. The mapping is proved to be learnable via a reinforcement mechanism that is consistent with actions commonly proposed for nigro-striatal dopaminergic pathways in the striatum and homeostasis in synaptic physiology. It appears that the cortico-striatal connections provide a biologically plausible realization of winner-take-all dynamics that is different from many engineering alternatives implementing the same function. With the winner-take-all units as functioning as a hidden layer, using corticostriatal weights as the only tunable parameters, the adaptive BG network can develop the capacity to perform universal binary mappings. In this way, the model can simulate important features of procedural learning in human experiments. At the same time, it can be shown that derangement of the winner-take-all dynamics could underlie the tremor and rigidity seen in Parkinson's disease.by Zhi-Hong Mao.Ph.D

TINJAUAN YURIDIS TANGGUNG JAWAB HUKUM TERHADAP PENJAMINAN BILYET GIRO (BG) KOSONG SEBAGAI ALAT PEMBAYARAN HUTANG (STUDI KASUS DI PENGADILAN NEGERI SURAKARTA

In business world, a businessman tends to prefer practical and safe payment instrument known as Commercial Paper (CP) and one of the CPs is Bilyet Giro (BG). The research discusses account receivable between litigant and defendant II through defendant I and the defendant II will pay the debt by using BG. Unfortunately, when the defendant cashed down the BG to a relevant bank at maturity date of the BG, he found that the BG had no fund. Judge’s verdict said that the payment is mutual responsibility of defendants. In fact, SEBI 091307 states that normatively the responsible person for empty BG is the owner of account, so that no other party can be harmed or jointly responsible for the empty BG, and it was proved by investigation that actually the defendant II owned the empty BG, therefore defendant I cannot be demanded to assume jointly the fault. In addition to a default, author has opinion that the act can be categorized as lawbreaking because the defendant II had committed a fraud by giving an empty BG that is intended to pay his debt to the litigant
