It was noted that during 25 years of scientific and teaching activity N.F. Filatov has made a significant contribution to the development of world Pediatrics. He is the author of over 70 scientific works, including “a Short textbook of pediatric diseases” (1893), aged 12 editions, and “Clinical lectures” (1900). His monograph “Lectures on acute infectious diseases” (1885) through 4 editions, “Semiotics and diagnosis of childhood diseases” (1890) – 9 editions, it is translated into German, Czech, Italian, Hungarian and French. In the monographs and manuals N.F. Filatov studied many of pokoleniya-pediatricians. He described the infectious disease named Filatov scarlatinal rubella. She was later described by the British physician Duxom; one of the presently used names of the disease – a disease Filatov-Dukes. In the first edition of "Lectures on infectious diseases" N.F. Filatov described is not known until the time of infectious mononucleosis, which he called idiopathic inflammation of the cervical lymphatic glands. The disease is now often called a disease Filatov. In 1895 N.F. Filatov, described an important diagnostic sign of measles is the appearance of catarrhal period of illness 1-2 days before appearance of rash spot grayish-white lesions on the mucosa of lips and cheeks. As was established later, this sign was first described by A.P. Belsky in 1890, then regardless of him F. Filatov, and in 1896 Koplik. In the literature, this symptom is known as spots Belsky-Filatova-Koplik. N.F. Filatov described the pathogenesis of some forms of edema syndrome in children, published works on prolonged afebrile forms of the flu. N.F. Filatov developed a clinical-physiological direction in Pediatrics. He created a large school of domestic pediatricians. Among his students were V.I. Molchanov and G.N. Speransky.</jats:p

In this paper, we describe some of the affordances, (the specific enabling features or characteristics), of an enterprise wiki to meet the needs of a developing community of practice. The Social Innovation Network (SInet) is a nascent research network that spans the social sciences, education and commerce at the University of Wollongong. It will use the enterprise wiki software Confluence to assist in the development of communities of practice across its groups and subgroups. This paper, describes some of the features of the software and how it might be used to perform some of the common activities identified by Wenger (nd) as contributing to the development of community

Oxidation of Aluminium-Magnesium alloys at elevated temperature in the solid, semi-liquid and liquid states

This thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and awarded by Brunel University.Sensitive thermogravimetric equipment was used to monitor the oxidation rates of A1-1 to 9% Mg alloys in 0.21 oxygen/0.79 helium mixtures with and without 0.03 atm water vapour pressure, in the temperature range 500-725°C which include their respective solid, semi-liquid and liquid states. These measurements were supported by structural and topographical studies of oxide films using SEM, X-ray diffraction, and TEM with electron diffraction and EDX techniques. The objective was to provide information in the context of dross formation during melting operations. The only oxidation product observed was MgO. The oxidation rates do not follow simple rate laws. The rate normally increases as the temperature is raised except for a curious inverse relationship for liquid alloys just above the liquidus temperatures due to the formation of undulating surfaces. An amorphous MgO film formed on liquid alloys restricted the initial oxidation but, following an incubation period, crystallisation of the film induced breakaway oxidation. The crystallisation was promoted by high magnesium contents, high temperatures and moist atmospheres. The oxidation rates for alloys in the semi-liquid state were as follows: (i) for 50% liquid, the rates were initially faster than those for wholly liquid alloys due to the presence of solid phase particles which acted both as disruptive stress-raisers and as sources of nuclei for crystallisation of the amorphous oxide film over the liquid phase. For the moist atmosphere: (i) wholly solid alloys and semi-liquid alloys with 50% liquid oxidised faster than in the dry atmosphere because of the injection of OH- ions into the oxide with consequent disruptive effects caused by hydrogen absorption by the alloy. The addition of 0.003% Be to Al-8% Mg alloy decreased the oxidation rate markedly by toughening the MgO films preventing cracking and hence the nucleation of tertiary MgO. Small additions of Mn or Zr offset the effect of Be and probably enhanced the Mg 2+ ion conductivity in the oxide by the 4+ injection of Mn 2+ , Mn 4+ or Zr ions. For alloys with Be, although breakaway eventually occurred it was not initiated by crystallisation of the amorphous film and moisture in the atmosphere increased the oxidation throughout the temperature range, 500-725°C.Financial support was provided by the Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC), Swindon, U.K

[[alternative]]Research of Moussorgsky/Ravel :"Pictures at an Exhibition"

No full text
[[abstract]]Abstract Although educated as a young officer, Moussorgky was completely a musician all his Life. With tragic characteristic, he was the most talented one among "the Russian Five". Mussorgsky composed very few piano works and even fewer orchestral works. His "Pictures at an Exhibition", born in piano form, was not popular until Ravel's orchestral arrangement was performed nearly half century later. This research about "Pictures at an Exhibition", Moussorgsky's most famous work, also one of the author's favorite, is to analyze this work. A literature review was made including the life time of Moussorgsky, the characteristics of his music and the progress of composing "Pictures at an Exhibition". Emphases ". Emphases were also placed upon the painter Hartman, the manusaript and the premiere. Analyses of the work itself including the structure, form, the relation with the pictures, the music language. After a brief introduction of the different arrangements, studies were made regarding Maestro Ravel's orchestral arrangement. The conducting of "Pictures at an Exhibition" was discussed in detailes based on several CDs and LD, live concerts, interviews with conductors, and personal interpentation of the author. Though emphasized on realism, Moussorgsky's colorful fantasy made people experience the natural Rassian spririt through music. With the efforts of so many arrangers and the master work of Ravel, it was proved that how possible and how progressive this piece was. No wonder Moussorgsky was considered as the most master musician of interpretating Russian soul .

A Comparison of Circumgalactic Mg ii Absorption between the TNG50 Simulation and the MEGAFLOW Survey

No full text
The circumgalactic medium (CGM) contains information on gas flows around galaxies, such as accretion and supernova-driven winds, which are difficult to constrain from observations alone. Here, we use the high-resolution TNG50 cosmological magnetohydrodynamical simulation to study the properties and kinematics of the CGM around star-forming galaxies in 1011.5-1012 M o ̇ halos at z ≃ 1 using mock Mg ii absorption lines, which we generate by postprocessing halos to account for photoionization in the presence of a UV background. We find that the Mg ii gas is a very good tracer of the cold CGM, which is accreting inward at inflow velocities of up to 50 km s-1. For sight lines aligned with the galaxy's major axis, we find that Mg ii absorption lines are kinematically shifted due to the cold CGM's significant corotation at speeds up to 50% of the virial velocity for impact parameters up to 60 kpc. We compare mock Mg ii spectra to observations from the MusE GAs FLow and Wind (MEGAFLOW) survey of strong Mg ii absorbers (EW2796 Å0 > 0.5 Å). After matching the equivalent-width (EW) selection, we find that the mock Mg ii spectra reflect the diversity of observed kinematics and EWs from MEGAFLOW, even though the sight lines probe a very small fraction of the CGM. Mg ii absorption in higher-mass halos is stronger and broader than in lower-mass halos but has qualitatively similar kinematics. The median-specific angular momentum of the Mg ii CGM gas in TNG50 is very similar to that of the entire CGM and only differs from non-CGM components of the halo by normalization factors of ≲1 dex

Cracking and induced steel stresses of reinforced and prestressed piles during driving

No full text
The problem of steel stresses during driving of reinforced and prestressed piles in case of concrete failure is analysed in this report using a momentum trap model that includes amplitude and shape of the reflected compressive wave. Special reference is made to the different performance of reinforced and prestressed concrete piles with respect to concrete and steel failure - cracking and yielding. The significant phenomena, bond behavior, prestressing level, prestressing rate and ratio of stress wave length and pile length, are clearly distinguished for assumed linear elastic material behavior which may serve as a basis for further numerical nonlinear analysis.Design & ConstructionCivil Engineering and Geoscience
