In this paper the Author analyses the principle of political neutrality of sport in the particular context of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. On one hand, the Author focuses on the principle of political neutrality, its meaning and its main normative references; on the other hand, the Author focuses on the rulings of the CAS of Lausanne which rejected the appeal brought by the Russian Football Federation against the decisions of UEFA and FIFA to exclude Russian teams from participating in international competitions
Usefulness of statins in preventing atrial fibrillation in patients with permanent pacemaker: A systematic review
Patients with permanent pacemakers (PM) are at high risk of developing atrial fibrillation (AF). Minimal ventricular pacing modalities have been demonstrated to reduce AF in such patients, although they are not suitable for patients with advanced atrioventricular conduction disease. Recent evidences suggest that 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase inhibitors (i.e. statins) may represent a new strategy to prevent AF in patients at risk. In this article, we sought to review data regarding the effectiveness of statin therapy in preventing AF patients with a PM. We reviewed all available studies that assessed the effect of statin therapy on the occurrence of AF in patients with PM, implanted due to sinus node dysfunction or atrioventricular conduction disease. Moreover, a random effect inverse variance-weighted meta-analysis was performed, by entering directly the logarithm of the hazard ratio (HR) of AF provided in the multiple Cox regression analyses from each study. Three studies were identified, including 552 patients, of whom 159 received statins. Follow-up ranged from 1 to 2.77 years. Two studies (one observational and one prospective randomized) included predominantly patients with sinus node dysfunction (70 and 91 of patient population, respectively) and, consistently, showed a beneficial effect of statins on the occurrence of AF. On the other hand, the study including predominantly patients with atrioventricular block (60 of patient population) failed to show a beneficial effect of statins on AF occurrence. The HR for AF occurrence for the cumulative data was found to be 0.43 (95 confidence interval: 0.28-0.67, P < 0.001). Statistical heterogeneity between included studies was not detected (χ2 = 1.68, P = 0.43, I2 = 0), although significant clinical differences were found in terms of study design, patient populations, statins use and dosage and AF-monitoring capabilities. Statins may represent a novel treatment strategy to prevent the occurrence of AF in patients with PM, especially for those who had a PM implanted due to sinus node dysfunction. Basing on our findings, a randomized clinical trial with a proper design to evaluate the utility of statins in preventing AF in these patients is warranted. © The Author 2010
Russian sectarianism: origin and development of the movement. Attempted analysis of the work The Silver Dove by Andrej Belyj.
Russian sectarianism is an extremely relevant and complex phenomenon in Russia, which over the centuries developed and spread throughout the country for internal political, but above all spiritual and moral reasons. However, this topic is almost completely ignored, as the study of social-religious movements in Russia remains one of the most backward areas of Soviet historiography. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to consider the historical process of the spread of religious sectarianism in Russia, as well as to outline the more general contours of this large and complex historical phenomenon with the aim of making a contribution to studies on Russian sectarianism, as studies of sources on this issue are insufficient. Furthermore, the aim of this research will be to establish whether, among the numerous Russian literary works between the 19th and 20th centuries, there are those that consider and illustrate Russian religious sectarianism, thus attesting to the importance of the phenomenon itself. For the study of the history of Russian sectarianism, it is indispensable to increasingly adopt the principle of the combined study of sources, as well as a broad appeal of the material on sectarians collected by ethnographers, folklorists, economists, statisticians and representatives of other branches of knowledge.
Ultimately, we will examine one of Andrei Belyj's masterpieces, The Silver Dove, in order to understand the motivations that drove the author to write such a work and establish the actual essence of the sectarian current of the chlysty within the text. To do this, we will use the text The Silver Dove and through it, fragments of the text, useful for our research, will be reported and commented upon
Earth Dams in Near-fault Areas: From the Regional to the Site Model
AbstractThe seismic response of large embankments in near-source conditions may be investigated by a multi-scale and multidisciplinary approach, where the seismological and geological aspects of the problem are firstly studied on a regional scale while the local and geotechnical aspects are studied on a detailed scale, including the structure of interest. A detailed knowledge of the basic seismological aspects of the area on a regional scale is necessary to properly simulate the seismic source and the wave propagation pattern within the rock basement to get the input motion at the bedrock formation for the reference site. The proper characterization of the motion at the bedrock level is crucial for large earth-dams or embankments for which a strong variability of the input motion may be dangerous, since differential settlements and fractures of the embankment may be promoted, with the consequent reduction of structure safety. Worth mentioning is the case-history of Conza Dam (AV) during the 1980 Irpinia earthquake: the embankment was partially jeopardized by the seismic event, being the dam site very close to the Irpinia source (≈10km). To merge the different scales of analysis (macro and micro) the mathematical formulation of the Domain Reduction Method (DRM), initially proposed by [1], has been recently implemented [14] in a FDM commercial code. One of the main advantage of the DRM procedure is the possibility of sub-structuring the real problem, dealing the generation and propagation of the seismic waves (model on a regional scale) separately from the seismic response of the specific site and structure, carried out on a reduced and detailed model (site model). According to the DRM approach, the dam is inserted in the refined internal domain and will receive the seismic motion from the external domain (which contains the source and propagation medium) through an interface boundary. To quantitatively evaluate the variability of the ground motion at the bedrock of the reference site, synthetic parameters were selected and suitable represented
Our knowledge about the activity of Girolamo Rainaldi (1570-1655) in northernItaly, and particularly inMilan, has recently been enriched with data coming from previously unpublished documents. From those, we discover that the architect was active in theLombardcity for the long-running question of the conclusion of Duomo’s façade, for which a project dating to circa 1607 is preserved in the Ambrosiana Library. Now the discovery of a presentation drawing with a proposal for the façade of the same church, dated and signed in 1642, preserved in a private collection, allows a further contribution to the information on Rainaldi's activity in Milan where he claims to be at the time of execution of the drawing. In 1642 the bishop ofMilanwas Cardinal Cesare Monti, for whom, in the same year, Girolamo had presented a project for the transformation of a suburban building into the family residence. In the occasion of this design for the façade of the largest Lombardchurch, we appreciate how Girolamo is dealing with a pre-existing building. His "hybridizing" approach already expressed in the drawing for the same church of 1607 and in the well-known foglio with the proposal for the façade of the Basilica of San Petronio in Bologna from the 1620s, gets confirmed in the project discussed in this study, albeit less explicitly. At the same time, this study permits reaching some clarifications on Rainaldi's graphic corpus which confirm the attributions previously made by the author and resolves some historiographical issues on the architect's activity during his long career.
The individual employment contracts are the acts that regulate the bilateral relationship between the employee and the employer. In recent years, in Italy as well as abroad, the legislator’s intervention concerning the negotiating structure was decisive; this intervention was motivated by the legislator’s conviction that its amendment could be an instrument for the labor market’s change in melius. This paper aims to analyze the Russian law contract types with the new structure emerged in Italy after the Jobs Act. This comparison is made from the comparative perspective. The author focuses not only on the analysis of contract types , but also analyzes the evolution of the Russian labor law, the structure and the characteristics of the Russian Federation’s labor market, looking for the corresponding elements within the Italian labor market. Based on the statistical data the author offers an objective reading of the Russian labor market by identifying the points of contact and divergence from the Italian reality, and suggests possible actions for the improvement of the both
