Sociodemographic correlates of discrimination against PLHIV in High HIV prevalence states of India, NFHS 2016–21
Abstract This study investigates the socio-demographic correlates of HIV discrimination among individuals aged 15–49 years. This study also aims to assess the change in discriminatory attitudes towards PLHIV in high HIV prevalence states from 2016 to 2021 using data from the national Demographic Health Survey (4th and 5th). To identify factors associated with discriminatory attitudes, a multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed. Further, predicted probabilities and average marginal effects were computed, and the difference in discriminatory attitudes across both rounds was examined using a non-linear Fairlie decomposition. Mass media exposure, improved wealth index, and comprehensive knowledge significantly reduced the discriminatory attitudes towards PLHIV. Fairlie decomposition indicated that comprehensive knowledge, knowledge of mother-to-child transmission, and mass media exposure was significant contributor to the differences observed in the discriminatory attitude towards PLHIV across survey rounds. This study emphasizes the importance of spreading accurate information about HIV transmission modes and reinforces existing programmes and policies aimed at reducing stigma and discrimination against PLHIV. These programmes' efficiency and effectiveness can be ensured by linking them with community-level programmes and activities organized by Self Help Groups (SHGs), which have resulted in a paradigm shift in empowering women in India

Songs of UP elections: Ka ba, Sab ba, maangat ba Akhilesh ke and Maya bahin ke jitiyaha
It is impossible to have an election in Uttar Pradesh without its accompanying song and dance. With the rise of social media, what we are seeing is a sophisticated coming together of propaganda and parochialism. Between articulating distress and hope, worshiping of leaders and ‘jai shri Ram’, and evoking Bharat Mata and Jyotiba Phule, the election songs fight to find room in the crowd space of democracy, literature, performing arts and resistance. From Neha Singh Rathore’s UP mein ka ba to Ravi Kishan’s Sab ba, all have a target audience
After Chipko: from environment to region in Uttaranchal
Although the Chipko movement is practically non-existent in its region of origin it remains one of the most frequently deployed examples of an environmental and/or a women's movement in the South. A small but growing number of commentators are now critiquing much neopopulist theorising on Chipko, and this paper provides an overview of these critiques. It then takes the debate further with reference to a more recent regional movement in the hills. By doing so, the author argues that it is possible to develop a more plausible account of gender, environment and the state in the Uttaranchal region, and illustrate common weaknesses in neopopulist understandings of Chipko and other social movements in the South
Wealth based inequality in the prevalence of teenage pregnancy and its correlates: Evidence from National Family Health Survey, 2019-21
Abstract Background The inclusion of adolescent fertility in the Sustainable Development Goals demonstrates the widespread recognition of the possible health hazards as well as social and economic disadvantages encountered by young women and their infants. Moreover, adolescents are in a precarious situation due to their socioeconomic vulnerability coupled with the responsibility of motherhood at an early age. The present study has been conducted to examine factors associated with adolescent fertility in India and to understand the socioeconomic inequality in teenage pregnancy utilizing data from the National Family Health Survey-5 (NFHS-5). Methods Binary logistic regression and marginal effects are applied to determine the association between teenage childbearing and other independent variables. The socioeconomic inequality in teenage pregnancy is assessed by Errygers decomposition. Results Around one-fifth of the respondents aged 19 years reported being pregnant in their teenage (21%). The risk of teen pregnancy was negatively associated with increasing educational attainment, improving wealth index, and working status. The risk of teenage pregnancy was 46% lower among individuals with family planning mass media exposure (OR: 0.54***0.4–0.75). Marginal effects showed that with secondary and higher educational attainment, the probability of having teenage pregnancy reduced by three and eight percent points in comparison to women without education. Results from Erregyers decomposition indicated that variables such as rural place of residence (47%), attempt to delay pregnancy (25%), no exposure to mass media related to family planning (13%), incorrect knowledge of ovulatory cycle (4%) were positive contributors to inequality attributable to wealth quintile in teenage pregnancy. Conclusions Promoting formal, institutional sources of knowledge regarding sexual and reproductive health, availability of contraception and their effective usage can enable adolescents to understand the negative repercussions of adolescent pregnancy. Moreover, work participation, higher schooling and access to family planning can also positively contribute to the reduction of teenage pregnancies
A Solid-State Transformer for Interconnection between the Medium- and the Low-Voltage Grid
In recent years the complexity of the grid systems has grown due to the increased penetration of renewable energy and distributed generation sources. The increased complexity requires new methods to quickly manage the changing sources and loads. This research focuses on one of such technologies, called the Solid State Transformer (SST). A SST uses power electronic devices and a high-frequency transformer to achieve isolation and voltage conversion from one level to another. Several SST topologies have been proposed by different research groups, without a clear consensus on which is most suited for grid applications. To ensure a proper choice of topology, a separate literature review is presented in this thesis. The final choice of topology is extremely modular and can be expanded to any voltage and power level. A first order design is made based on this topology for quantitative research. In order to reduce computation times during simulations, the SST circuit is reduced to an averaged model. After development of the averaged model, the controller for the different parts of the SST is designed. The averaged model of the SST along with its controller is then placed in several grid scenarios to investigate its behavior. These simulations show satisfactory behavior of the SST under both normal operation and disturbances.Electrical Power EngineeringElectrical Power ProcessingElectrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Scienc

Introduction
On September 16, 2013, the Ananda Bazar Patrika—a leading Bengali daily published from Calcutta—carried a provocatively titled piece in its op-ed pages. The piece was called “Shri Chaitanya: Our Fathomless Self-Forgetting,”1 and it attempted to draw its readers into the realization that they—the Bengali people, as it were—had been complicit in a collective performance of amnesia. Otherwise, the sixteenth-century mystic Shri Chaitanya could not have been condemned to such a degree of apathy and disinterest as he has been in contemporary times. The author of the piece—a scholar of Vaishnavism and the Hindu ...</p

FENOMENOLOGI AGAMA: PENDEKATAN FENOMENOLOGI UNTUK MEMAHAMI AGAMA
In this article the author explains what is called ‘phenomenological approach’ in the study of religion. Starting from Husserl’s philosophy of phenomenology, the author tracing its influences in social science through one of Husserl’s students, Alfred Schutz. Based on Husserl’s ideas developed by Schutz, the author presents his views how those ideas can be applied in the study of religion, and how religion can be defined phenomenologically. The author further explains some methodological ethical implications of doing phenomenological research on religion.***Dalam tulisan ini penulis menjelaskan apa yang disebut ‘pendekatan fenomenologi’ dalam kajian agama.
