The experiment was conducted on 40 female guinea pigs weighing 0.18-0.20 kg. The animals were divided into 4 groups, each contained 10 guinea pigs: I – intact guinea pigs (control), II–guinea pigs with model of IS on1st day of experiment;Ш–animals on 2nd day of experiment;IV- group of animals on 34th day of experimental model of IS. The results of our experimental work showed a significant accumulation of lipid peroxidation products in the lung`s tissure in different periods (on 1st, 2nd and 34th days) of immobilization stress. The state of antioxidant defence was characterized by moderate decrease of inzymes activity (superoxide dismutase, catalase and ceruloplasmin). disorders of balance between pro-oxidant and antioxidant systems couse oxidative stress development. Key words: immobilization stress; peroxide lipid oxidation; antioxidant system

Detection of Low Velocity Space Debris and Micrometeoroid Impacts: An Experimental Investigation

    No full text
Space debris and micrometeoroids are abundant around our home planet and offer both an opportunity of research for scientists and a threat to human’s endeavours in space. Impacts with even the smallest particles can happen at such high velocities that they can damage or destroy an operational spacecraft, creating even more debris and possibly endangering its crew, if manned. Detecting and cataloguing the debris and micrometeoroid population has thus been a priority for many space agencies around the world to ensure safe space access. Unfortunately, small debris in high orbits cannot be detected by ground based observatories that can detect objects with a minimum diameter of 10 cm in LEO and 1m in GEO. This is why space based detectors are needed. Current detectors are small in size and can often detect only high velocity impacts due to relying on ionisation of particles upon impact. This MSc thesis investigated the possibility of using the whole spacecraft as a detector, by employing vibration sensors on its structure to detect impact-induced oscillations. These vibrations could contain information on the impactor’s mass, speed, material class and other features. Impacts of pieces of debris were simulated in a laboratory environment and the vibrations generated in a spacecraft-like structure were measured and processed to study the effectiveness of such a detection method. Three types of projectiles were used, beads of glass (3mm diameter, 0.04g average mass), teflon (3.2 mm average diameter and 0.033g average mass) and steel (3 mm average diameter and 0.11 g average mass). As target, to represent a spacecraft, a 3mm thick aluminium panel, a 5 mm thick aluminium- skin aluminium-honeycomb sandwich panel and a flight spare model of a solar array were used. An impact-location estimation algorithm was developed that can successfully determine the point of impact based on the signal of at least 4 sensors with centimetre accuracy. Analysis of the waveforms acquired by the sensors showed that deformation phenomena upon impact affect the frequency content of the signal, showing that to preserve as much as possible the high frequency content of the signal stiffer parts of a satellite are more indicated for this type of technology. Lastly, it was observed that the maximum voltage measured grows linearly with the momentum of the particles, making it possible to estimate the impact momentum solely based on the signal acquired. The dependence of voltage from the impact momentum together with the experimentally calculated coefficient of vibration dissipation of -0.05 cm^(−1) was used to determine the maximum distance of sensors from the point of impact as a function of particle speed and mass for successful detection of the impact. Particles as light as 0.03 g (the lightest used in the experiments) travelling at speeds as low as 15 m/s are expected to be detectable from sensors as far as 50cm, while for objects of 0.2 g travelling at speeds exceeding 200 m/s it is expected that a sensor can be as far as 1 meter away from the point of impact. The method, for its simplicity and low-cost provides an easy way to greatly increase the amount of data on small pieces of debris and micrometeoroid around our planet, enhancing space exploration safety and supporting future missions.Aerospace Engineerin

A semiotic interpretation of national typology: the English, the Boers and ... the Russians (Ivan Goncharov’s Frigate Pallas)

    No full text
This article examines the text of renowned nineteenth century Russian travellers notes, The Frigate Pallada, by Ivan Goncharov, the author of Oblomov. Using the teachings of Victor Shklovsky, Yurij Tynianov and Yurij Lotman on the role of the genre of travellers notes in the history of Russian literature, the author examines the chapter on the Cape Province. She demonstrates that in his descriptions of the two nations of the Cape Province - the English and the Boers - Goncharov is applying that which is known to him - his own cultural model of the Russian society of the mid-nineteenth century. In his examination of differences between the English and the Boers Goncharov applies the ideological dichotomy between the Slavophiles and the Westernisers. Goncharov, by "inverting" the "dual model of Russian culture" (Lotman & Uspensky, 1984a) draws comparisons between the Russians of the Oblomov Slavophile type on the one hand, and the English on the other hand as the model for the improvement of the industry of the economically backward Russian nation. To Goncharov the Boers resemble the Oblomov, old world side of dichotomy, which by inversions of the dual model can fluctuate between "the good" and "the bad" categories

Установлено, что высокая стабилизация соседствует со сверхбыстрой коагуляцией коллоидов. Предложена идея теоретического обоснования последнего явления как броуновского движения, усиленного химическими процессами на поверхности коллоидных частиц.Using the flow ultramicroscope method the author shows retarding effect of the hydroxycarboxylic acids on dispersion coagulation of the titanium oxide in the strong solution of sodium chlorine. They established that the high stability goes together with the superfast colloid coagulation. The author offers a theoretical justification of this phenomenon as Brownian movement, intensified by the chemical reactions on the afloat of the colloidal particles.Челябинский государственный педагогический университе

City-states in medieval Russia and the Great Russian state system

The article provides an insight into the author’s view on the rise and development of the state institutions in Rus-Great Russia. According to the author, extant sources and historiographic heritage make it possible to draw a conclusion regarding the zemskoe (communal) origin of the medieval Russian state system. Thus, the united Russian state emerged as a communal-autocratic state. Without idealizing relations between the grand prince, the nobility, the bureaucracy and the communal institutions, we must acknowledge that there was a certain balance and in some cases — prevalence of the traditional communal way of life. For the first time in the history of Russian civilization the turn of the 16th century witnessed the rise of a united Russian state, which embodied principles of autocracy and a communal way of life, namely a state, which was both communal and autocratic in its form and nature. Бокарев Юрий Павлович, доктор исторических наук, профессор, главный научный сотрудник и заведующий сектором экономической истории, Институт экономики Российская Академия наук (Москва, Россия). E-mail: [email protected] Yu. The article deals with the history of the Russian pension system from the moment of its separation from charitable and other social activities until the retirement statutes of the late XIX — early XX century. The article analyzes the progressive expansion of the number of citizens covered by this system of social protection from naval officers and their families to employees of state agencies with attempts to cover people of civil professions (clerics, scientists, teachers, artists, employees of some private enterprises, etc.). Along with pensions paid from the state budget, attempts were made to create pensions on the basis of emerital cash desks. The author does not agree with researchers who believe that the pension in pre-revolutionary Russia was of exclusively class character
