‘Patricio Muñoz’ is an aspiring writer. One day he meets Emmanuel Huffman, a professor at St. Sebastian University, Maragos. Professor Huffman offers ‘Mr. Muñoz’ a position as Writer in Residence and an opportunity to compile and edit an anthology of short fiction titled ‘Testimony’. The position entails relocating to Maragos and ‘Mr. Muñoz’ readily accepts the offer.
Upon arriving in Maragos, ‘Mr. Muñoz’ realises that Professor Huffman’s intentions were not entirely generous. Maragos is a country ruled by an oppressive regime. The government will do anything to find and prosecute individuals whom it believes oppose the regime.
Erasure is a work of fiction. It is divided into three parts. Part One is a complete copy of the anthology edited by ‘Patricio Muñoz’. Part Two is comprised of Professor Huffman’s reflections upon his situation. Finally, Part Three recounts the efforts of an over-zealous intelligence officer named Eric Garnett, who tries to find and prosecute the authors within the anthology.
Erasure deals with the nature of writing and the role of the author within society. It examines the issue of censorship and the pervasive sense of paranoia that underlies oppressive regimes.

Black Water explores the theory and practices that underpin the creative work Erasure. Beginning with an exploration of the exegetical work and its characteristics within the academy, the essay moves on to critically examine the factors that might impel one to write, the role of the short-short story and the issue of ethics in light of censorship and oppression. The exegetical work also examines the concepts of space and place and how they may affect the writing process; it concludes with a personal reflection upon the reasons for writing.

El desarrollo cultural de la región participó, desde épocas muy tempranas, de todos los elementos que definieron a las antiguas culturas de Norteamérica; destaca la originalidad y calidad estética de las figurillas y la cerámica preclásicas, enriquecidas durante el periodo Clásico por las influencias de Teotihuacán y ElTajín. Durante el Posclásico la cultura huasteca, de origen maya pero con una fuerte influencia mexica, se definió a través de sus rasgos culturales. Oficio de tinieblas por Galileo Galilei: una composición paradigmática del compositor Patricio Wang para Quilapayún
No full textThe interesting aspect of this article are three. Firstly, the figure of Patricio Wang is tackled as a composer, his academic training and his relationship with Quilapayún. Secondly, an analysis musical-poetic is done, the Oficio of Tinieblas by Galileo Galilei, having as a base, the creation of its form and content, putting emphasis in the used technical resources, that do not belong to the language neither the esthetic of the popular song. For the analysis, the play was watched as a unique scene divided into four levels. Finally, a panoramic vision of the history of the musical group Quilapayún is done, describing and analyzing the factors that allow them to assimilate a creative proposal with these features.
This study has been articulated based on the information given directly by Patricio Wang the author, and which has allowed to make out: his history as a composer and his direct influences, his particular vision of the play, and his personal relationship with Quilapayún. This, with the use of descriptive bibliography related with the New Chilean Song and its components, have allowed to support the idea that the play and the inclusion of the composer to the band, generate a new creative paradigm, materialized in an esthetic turn that these artist will give in their discographic productions of the 80’s.Los aspectos de interés para este artículo son tres. Primero se aborda la figura de Patricio Wang como compositor, su formación académica y su relación con Quilapayún. En la segunda parte, se realiza un análisis músico-poético, de Oficio de tinieblas por Galileo Galilei, teniendo como base, la creación en su forma y contenido, con énfasis en los recursos técnicos utilizados, que no corresponden al lenguaje ni a la estética de la canción popular. Para el análisis, se observó la obra como una escena única dividida en cuatro planos. Por último, se realiza una visión panorámica a la historia del grupo Quilapayún, describiendo y analizando los factores que posibilitaron que fueran capaces de asimilar una propuesta creativa de estas características.
Este estudio ha sido articulado, en base a la información proporcionada directamente por Patricio Wang al autor, y que ha permitido vislumbrar: su historia como compositor, sus influencias directas, su visión particular de la obra; y su relación profesional con Quilapayún. Esto junto a la utilización de bibliografía descriptiva relacionada a la Nueva Canción Chilena y sus exponentes, han permitido sostener la idea, de que esta obra, y la inclusión de su compositor al conjunto, generan un nuevo paradigma creativo, materializado en el giro estético que estos artistas darán en sus producciones discográficas de los años 80
De La Batalla… a La cordillera… Pactos interpretativos en el cine de Patricio Guzmán
No full textIn this paper we have set out to describe how Chilean historical documentaries give a sensitive form to the past, which means crossing the field of communication with that of aesthetics. In documentaries, the literature, as well as our previous research, indicates that representation strategies would appeal to three pacts or contracts of interpretation: history, memory and the hybridisation between the two. We review three exemplary films by the Chilean documentary filmmaker Patricio Guzmán, a reference author in the genre and in Chile, with an extensive and prolific career in the field of historical documentaries. These films have been chosen to describe, respectively, how each of the indicated pacts operate: The Battle of Chile, Part 2: The coup d'état (1977), Chile, the obstinate memory (1997) and The mountain range of dreams (2019).Este artículo describe cómo los documentales históricos chilenos dan forma sensible al pasado, cruzando el campo de la comunicación con la estética. Nuestra investigación previa señala que las estrategias de representación apelarían a tres pactos o contratos de interpretación: la historia, la memoria y la hibridación entre ambas. Revisamos tres películas significativas del documentalista chileno Patricio Guzmán, autor de referencia en el género y en Chile, con una trayectoria extensa y prolífica en el campo del documental de tema histórico, y con amplia repercusión mundial. Estas películas han sido escogidas para describir, respectivamente, cada uno de los contratos señalados: La batalla de Chile, parte 2: El golpe de Estado (1977), Chile, la memoria obstinada (1997) y La cordillera de los sueños (2019)
