    The effect of calcium (Ca+2) applications on R/S values in tomato and pepper rhizosfer soils

    Amaç: Bu araştırma, farklı kalsiyum (Ca+2) dozu uygulamaları altında yetiştirilen domates ve biber bitkilerinin kök bölgesi topraklarının bazı mikrobiyal aktivitelerini belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Biber ve Domates bitkileri, Hatay tarımında özellikle örtüaltı yetiştiriciliğinde önemli bir yere sahip olup, kuraklık ve susuzluk streslerinden olumsuz yönde etkilenebilmektedir. Yöntemler ve Bulgular: Sera koşullarında yürütülen bu araştırma için rizosfer (R) ve rizosfer dışından alınan topraklarda (S), Ca uygulamalarının mikrobiyal aktivitelere etkilerini belirlemek için, toprak solunumu (CO2), dehidrogenaz enzim aktivitesi (DHA) ve mikrobiyal biyomas karbon (MBC) içeriği analizleri ile birlikte kök biyomas ağırlıkları (g/bitki), pH (1:5) ve EC (S/cm) analizleri de yapılmış ve her iki bitki için Rizosfer etkisi (R/S) değerleri hesaplanmıştır. CO2, DHA ve MBC analizleri yapılmıştır. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre, biber ve domates için rizosfer topraklarında (R) tespit edilen CO2, DHA ve MBC ortalama sonuçları sırasıyla, 71.98-68.74 g CO2-C.gkt-1, 12.84-12.48 g TPF.10 gkt-1 , 53.00-39.24 g.gkt-1 olarak belirlenirken aynı toprakların ortalama S değerleri sırasıyla 58.64-59.54 g CO2-C.gkt-1 , 1.55-1.57 g TPF.10 gkt-1 , 25.43-25.94 g.gkt-1 olarak belirlenmiştir. Bu sonuçlara göre oluşturulan R/S değerleri ise biber ve domates için sırasıyla, 1.23-1.17 CO2, 8.19-8.06 DHA ve 2.09-1.52 MBC olarak belirlenmiştir. Genel Yorum: Biber rizosfer mikrobiel aktivitesinin domatese göre azda olsa daha yüksek olduğu belirlenmiştir. Ca uygulamalarının artan dozları biber ve domates rizosfer CO2 ve DHA değerlerinin düşmesine neden olurken MBC değerlerinde artışlara neden olmuştur. Kök ağırlığı değerleri her iki bitki için, artan Ca dozları ile artışlar göstermiştir. pH değerleri Ca uygulamalarından önemli derecede etkilenmezken, EC değerleri biber ve domates bitkisi için önemli düzeyde farklılıklar göstermiştir. Çalışmanın Önemi ve Etkisi: Antakya sera koşullarında önemli bir yeri olan domates ve biberde görülen bazı fizyolojik hastalıkların neden olduğu verim ve kalite sorunlarını çözmek için Ca uygulamaları çözüm olabilir. Meyvedeki çiçek burnu çürüklüğünün ana nedeni, toprakta kalsiyum eksikliği veya mevcut kalsiyumun birçok etmenin etkisiyle topraktan alınamamasıdır. Meyveye kalsiyumun (Ca) alınamaması sonucunda meyvenin çiçek burnundaki hücre ve dokular ölmekte, çökük ve batık bir alan oluşmakta ve daha sonra bu alan genişlemektedir. Yapılan bu araştırma ile sera koşullarında, domates ve biber bitkisinde, çiçek burnu çürüklüğüne karşı uygulanan Ca’un, rizosfer bölgesi topraklarında mikrobiyal aktivitelere etkileri belirlenmiştir.Aims: The aim of this study was to determine some microbial activity of the tomato and pepper plant rhizosfer soils under different doses of Calcium (Ca+2) applications. Pepper and tomato plants could be adversely affected by drought and water stress have an important place in Hatay agriculture especially greenhouse plant production. Rhizosphere (R) and out of the rhizosphere soil (S) were used for the research that carried out under greenhouse conditions. Methods and Results: In order to determine the effects of Ca applications in conditions to pepper and tomato production on soil microbial activities, soil respiration (CO2 produce), dehydrogenase enzyme activity (DHA) and microbial biomass carbon (MBC) content some biological analyzes were performed. In addition, root biomass weights (g plant-1 ), pH (1:5) and EC (S cm-1) analyzes were performed and R/S values were calculated for both plants. Results of CO2, DHA and MBC values in rhizosphere soils (R) for pepper and tomato were determined as 71.98-68.74 g CO2-C.gkt-1 , 12.84-12.48 g TPF.10 gkt-1 , 53.00-39.24 g.gkt-1 and the average S values of the the soils were determined as 58.64-59.54 g CO2-C.gkt-1 , 1.55-1.57 g TPF.10 gkt-1, 25.43-25.94 g.gkt-1, respectively. R/S values calculated according to these results were 1.23-1.17 CO2, 8.19-8.06 DHA and 2.09-1.52 MBC for pepper and tomato, respectively. Conclusions: Increasing doses of Ca applications resulted in reductions in CO2, DHA values for pepper and tomato, while increasing MBC values. Root weight values showed increases with increasing doses of Ca for both plants. While the pH values were not significantly affected by the applications, EC values differed significantly for pepper and tomato plants. Significance and Impact of the Study: Ca applications may be the solution to solve the yield and quality problems caused by some physiological diseases seen in tomatoes and peppers which have an important place in Antakya greenhouse conditions. The main cause of rotten flower rot in the fruit is the lack of calcium in the soil or the lack of existing calcium due to many factors. As calcium (Ca) cannot be taken into the fruit, the cells and tissues in the flower nose of the fruit die, a collapsed and submerged area is formed and then this area is enlarged.     Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Determination of pre-servıce scıence teachers' science process skills and investigating of relationship with general academic achievement

    Bu çalışmanın amacı, fen bilgisi öğretmen adaylarının bilimsel süreç beceri düzeylerini belirleyerek bu becerilerin sınıf düzeyine göre nasıl değiştiğini ve genel akademik başarıları ile ilişkisi düzeyini incelemektir. Çalışma nedensel karşılaştırma ve korelasyonel çalışmanın birlikte kullanıldığı modelde tasarlanmış betimsel bir çalışmadır. Çalışmada veri toplama aracı olarak; Okey, Wise ve Burns (1982) tarafından geliştirilen ve Türkçeye uyarlaması Geban, Aşkar ve Özkan (1992) tarafından gerçekleştirilen Bilimsel Süreç Beceri Testi (BSBT) ve adayların otomasyon sisteminden alınan genel akademik not ortalamaları kullanılmıştır. Çalışmaya, 149 fen bilgisi öğretmen adayı katılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler betimlemeli istatistikler, pearson korelasyon katsayısı ve tek yönlü varyans analizi (ANOVA) kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Analizler sonucunda, fen bilgisi öğretmen adaylarının değişkenleri tanımlama ve kontrol etme ile işlemsel tanımlama becerilerinin düşük, hipotez kurma becerilerinin orta ve araştırma tasarlama ile grafik ve verileri yorumlama becerilerinin ise yüksek olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Bununla birlikte adayların sınıf düzeylerine göre BSBT ve alt boyutlarından aldıkları puanların üçüncü sınıflar lehine anlamlı derecede farklılaştığı tespit edilmiştir(F(2, 146)=11,773; p<0,001). Ayrıca, BSBT puanları ile genel akademik başarıları arasında orta düzeyde pozitif bir ilişkinin (r=+0.33) olduğu tespit edilmiştirThe purpose of this study is to determine levels of science process skills of pre-service science teachers and to examine relationships between their science process skills and general academic achievement. The study had a descriptive survey design that used with together causal comparative and correlation studies. Data were collected through &quot;general academic achievement&quot; obtained from automation system and &quot;Science Process Skills Test (SPST)&quot; which was developed by Okey, Wise and Burns (1982) and adapted by Geban, Aşkar and &Ouml;zkan (1992) for Turkish language. The SPST was administered to 149 pre-service science teachers in a public university in Turkey. Obtained data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, pearson product-moment correlations and one way analysis of variance (ANOVA). Results indicated that pre service science teachers' total SPST scores are moderate level. But recognizing variables and defining operationally scores are lower level, formulating hypotheses is moderate level and experimenting and interpreting data are high level. Science process skills scores of pre-service teachers according to their grade level have statistically differed favor third grade(F(2, 146)=11,773; p&lt;0,001). The participants of the study, which was conducted in Ataturk university Education Faculty, were 212 pre-service science teachers who are in the 1st , 2nd , and 3rd grades. The alternative ideas of pre-service science teachers were investigated by using concept cartoons and open-ended questions. Two tests made of concept cartoons and open-ended questions were used to determine the alternative ideas of the pre-service science teachers in the study. The data of the study was analysed using content analysis. It was found that the pre-service science teachers possessed some alternative concepts such as white cat could be seen in darkness and stars can not be seen in daylight because they only reflect moon light and while determining these alternative ideas, concepts cartoons were as effective as open-ended questions. It was found that pre-service science teachers had some alternative ideas and concept cartoons were as suitable as the open-ended questions to determine these alternative ideas. Preservice science teachers have ideas white cat can be seen in the dark, the stars can t be seen only in the light of the day to reflect the moonlight

    Araştırmanın amacı 1-5. sınıf Türkçe ders kitaplarındaki metinleri tür ve tema açısından incelemektir. Araştırma 2012-2013 yılları arasında yapılmış olup betimsel nitelikli bir çalışmadır. Araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden içerik analizi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın evrenini Talim Terbiye Kurulu tarafından kabul edilen 1-5. sınıf tüm Türkçe Ders kitapları, örneklemini ise yansız atama yoluyla 11 yayınevine ait 15 Türkçe ders kitabı içerisinden seçilen 492 metin oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma kapmasına alınan yayınevlerinin isimleri şifrelendirilmiştir. Verilerin elde edilmesinde metin türü ölçütü ve tema ölçütü kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde frekans, yüzde ve aritmetik ortalamadan yararlanılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda; 15 ders kitabında bulunan metinlerin 131'i bilgilendirici, 213'ü öyküleyici ve 148'inin şiir türünde olduğu ve 15 farklı temaya yer verildiği tespit edilmiştir. 1. sınıf E, O ve L yayınevindeki tüm temalarda, 2. sınıf V yayınevine ait 2 temada, 3. sınıf E yayınevine ait 5 temada, 3. sınıf K yayınevine ait 3 temada, 4. sınıf M yayınevine ait 2 temada ve 5. sınıf E yayınevine ait 2 temada bilgilendirici metine, 5. sınıf E yayınevine ait 3 temada, V yayınevine ait 1 temada ve R yayınevine ait 2 temada öyküleyici metine yer verilmediği belirlenmiştir. 15 Türkçe ders kitabının zorunlu ve seçmeli temalara uygun olarak hazırlandığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.The aim of the study 1-5. class text in Turkish textbooks is to examine in terms of gendre and thema.     Assessment of the relationship between the engagement in leisure time and academic motivation among the students of faculty of education

    he aim of the study was to determine the relationship between leisure time motivation and academic motivation among the students who studied at the Faculty of Education of Mustafa Kemal University. 260 students (Xyears: 21.29&plusmn;2.11) constituted the sample of the study. For the analyses of the data; Leisure Motivation Scale and Academic Motivation Scale were employed. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlation test and regression analysis. According to the findings of the study; it was explored that academic motivation was significantly correlated with the leisure motivation scale’s subscales of intrinsic motivation toward knowledge and accomplishment (r=0.360), experience stimulation (r=0.219) and introjected and identified regulations (r=0.212; p&lt;0.05). Also; the leisure motivation scale’s subscales of motivation toward knowledge and accomplishment accounted for 13% of academic motivation. In light of these findings; it may be concluded that there was a correlation between academic motivation and intrinsic motivation (toward knowledge and accomplishment, and experience stimulation) and more autonomous types of extrinsic motivation (introjected and identified regulations). As a result of the regression analysis; engagement in leisure time activities for knowledge and accomplishment significantly accounted for academic motivation.
