This study aims to reveal how the educative communication strategy of Sanggar Anak Sungai Deli volunteers improves the worship of school dropouts on the banks of the Deli River. The research method used is a qualitative method by describing the results of the data obtained through interviews, observation, and documentation. This research was conducted at the Deli Anak Sungai Studio, Sei Mati Village, Medan Maimun District. The results of the research conducted showed that dropout children worship at the Anak Sungai Deli Studio in the form of obligatory and sunnah prayers. The fardu prayers that they do in a day and night are not performed often, most of them prefer to perform the evening prayers in congregation at the nearest musholla or at their respective homes. In addition, school dropouts also carry out worship practices such as fasting Ramadan, sunnah tarawih prayers, fardu kifayah practices, reading the Koran by holding Maghrib Koran, giving alms, and other worship practices. The increase in worship arose because of an educative communication strategy for Sanggar Anak Sungai Deli volunteers who were able to educate them with religious materials delivered, advice, directions, and in the form of information that educates the increase in the worship of out-of-school children on the banks of the Deli River

Optimizing the Role of Mosques: Communication Network Strategy of Mosque Managers in Dairi Regency

This study aims to analyze the communication network of mosque administrators in prospering mosques in Dairi Regency. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach using a case study approach. This study uses documentary studies, interviews, and observations. This study revealed that the communication network of mosque administrators in Dairi Regency plays a central role in the process of mosque prosperity. The main findings that were successfully identified specifically include: Intensity of Mosque Administrator Communication, Mosque administrators in Dairi Regency, especially core administrators (chairman, secretary, treasurer), have a high intensity of communication through routine discussions after prayers and informal meetings. This communication strengthens internal cooperation and supports the process of building and managing mosques. Communication between mosques is still personal and not yet structurally organized. Content of Communication Messages, The content of the administrator's messages focuses on matters of construction, maintenance, finance, and evaluation of mosque activities. For the congregation, the messages are in the form of invitations to participate in worship and social activities. To the Government and KUA, the messages are administrative in nature. Discussions are also carried out through WhatsApp groups facilitated by the Ministry of Religion, although there is no official organizational forum between mosque administrators. Communication Media Used, The main communication media are WhatsApp and telephone because they are practical and easy to use by administrators, most of whom work as farmers. For formal purposes, such as meetings and activity invitations, printed media in the form of letters are used. This combination of media supports effective communication, although the limitations of communication structures between mosques remain a barrier to broader collaboration

The Jamaah’s assessment on Friday Sermon at the Mosques of Medan city, Indonesia

Every Muslim is required to perform the Friday prayer coupled with the Friday sermon in Medan. As long as Muslims are still on the surface of the earth during that time, the Friday sermon will continue. Secondly, the implementation of the Friday sermon generally takes place simultaneously in every country if it is only a few hours apart. So the message in the Friday sermon can be disseminated throughout the Islamic world with uniform material. Thirdly, in terms of communication, the Friday sermon is a communication in one direction and communication from top to bottom. A preacher is not only a seat position higher than the congregation but also the message conveyed should not be interrupted during the sermon. the jamaah practice what the preacher preached was also influenced by the credibility of the preacher himself. So if the preacher is well known and pious, the possibility of jamaah to procatice it is higher than if the preacher is considered less credible. Keywords: Friday sermon; mosques; preacher; jamaa

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    Get PDF
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    Get PDF
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
