    Examining the articulation between reading and writing and the way it is built into Edmond Amran El Maleh's fictional texture enables us to discern the subtle links between the texts that most impressed the author. In particular, the reading of Walter Benjamin's works appears as a source of inspiration that enables us to better understand a tangle of borrowings underlying a certain homogeneity in the development of El Maleh's writing. Establishing this link between the two authors allows us to re-read El Maleh's works as an extension of Benjamin's thought, as a carrying out of allegoric writing, inducing a particular connection to speech, history and art.Interroger l'articulation lecture-écriture et la manière dont elle s'inscrit dans le tissu fictionnel d'Edmond Amran El Maleh permet de discerner les enchevêtrements subtils entre les textes qui ont le plus marqué cet écrivain. Mais s'il est une lecture qui donne une certaine homogénéité à cet entrelacs de paroles rapportées et qui permet de mieux saisir le cheminement de l'écriture maléhienne, c'est bien celle de Walter Benjamin.     Résumé  Dans sa quête d’identité, Edmond Amran El Maleh fait de son écriture une plaidoirie pour sa ville natale, Essaouira. Il trace l’itinéraire des lieux immémoriaux et millénaires qui avaient constitués le périple d’un passé glorieux des juifs du Maroc. A travers le voyage qui constitue la matrice de son œuvre littéraire et critique, l’auteur fait d’Essaouira l’image-refuge par laquelle les Juifs marocains se permettent d’échapper au silence et à la mort.   Mots- clés : identité- Essaouira-le voyage- ancestrale- refuge.   Abstract In his quest for identity, Edmond Amran El Maleh makes his writing a plea on his ancestral city, Essaouira. It traces the route of the immemorial and millennia-old places which had constituted the journey of a glorious past of the Jews of Morocco.     Biomass Production and Formulation of Bacillus Subtilis for Biological Control

    Bacillus subtilis is a widespread bacterium found in soil, water, and air. It controls the growth of certain harmful bacteria and fungi, presumably by competing for nutrients, growth sites on plants, and by directly colonizing and attaching to fungal pathogens. When applied to seeds, it colonizes the developing root system of the plants and continues to live on the root system and provides protection throughout the growing season. The study on biomass production and formulation of B. subtilis for biological control was conducted in the laboratory of Department of Plant Pathology, College of Agriculture, University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB-CA), College, Laguna from May to July 2005. The objective of the study was to determine the optimum pH and a good carbon source for biomass production of B. subtilis and to develop a seed treatment formulation of B. subtilis as biological control agent. Results showed that the optimum pH for growth of B. subtilis was pH 6 (1.85 x 109 cfu/ml). In laboratory tests for biomass production using cassava flour, corn flour, rice flour, and brown sugar as carbon sources, it grew best in brown sugar plus yeast extract medium (6.8 x 108 cfu ml-1 in sterile distilled water and 7.8 x 108 cfu ml-1 in coconut water). In test for bacterial biomass carriers, talc proved to be the best in terms of number of bacteria recovered from the seeds (3.98 x 105 cfu seed-1)

    Effectiveness of the biopesticide of Bacillus subtilis BNt 8 and botanical pesticide in controlling banded leaf and sheath blight disease on maize. Banded leaf and sheath blight disease (BLSB) caused by the fungus Rhizoctonia solani is difficult to control because it pertained soil borne fungus that can survive in a long time in the soil. Control the disease with synthetic pesticide causing contamination to the environment, so that an environmentally friendly alternative control is needed. This study aimed to obtain a Bacillus subtilis formulation as biological agents and selected botanical pesticides that effective to control BLSB in the field. The study was conducted at the Plant Pathology Laboratory of Indonesia Cereals Research Institutein Maros and at the Bajeng Experimental Farm in Gowa, held from February to August 2015. The reatments consists of several botanical pesticides, B. subtilis formulation, a synthetic fungicide, positive and negative controls. In vitro test was inhibition test between botanical pesticide with R. solani and antagonistic test between the B. subtilis and botanical pesticides, each of them consists of 6 treatments and 3 replications, while the field activity consists of test of effectiveness of single treatment and combination between B. subtilis formulation and botanical pesticides. The results showed that combination of formulated B. subtilis with botanical pesticide of cloves leaves, betel leaves, and turmeric were not significantly different from single treatment of formulated B. subtilis and botanical pesticides. Formulated B. subtilis suppressed the severity of BLSB as much as 39.1% and yield reached 8.4 t/ha.</jats:p

    Zakat : a Singapore perspective

    This report puts the spotlight on zakat, a major Islamic institution based on social justice that makes it obligatory for a Muslim who satisfies certain conditions, to contribute a portion of his wealth to the society. Issues relating to zakat are highlighted and discussed in three ways: by focusing on zakat itself and its potential, bycomparing it to taxation, and by applying these issues to the Singapore context. This report also introduces a Malaysian model for zakat administration, which is a company established for that sole purpose, and examines whether it can be implemented in Singapore. The knowledge of the Muslim public on zakat matters are assessed. In addition, the position of the Islamic ReUgious Council of Singapore (MUIS) in zakat administration is given a close look. The above discussions lead to the conclusion that MUIS is indeed the best body to administer zakat and that in this matter, it should both seriously consider the Malaysian model and take a more proactive approach. Finally, this report recommends that MUIS employ a more effective marketing strategy, qualified personnel and appropriate modem technology to help increase the awareness of zakat and of its own capabilities to administer zakat, among the Singapore Muslims. MUIS should also give serious consideration to the the issues pertaining to zakat on salary and to the possibility of effecting a more innovative distribution policy such as the one recommended in this report.ACCOUNTANC

The 1916 Sykes-Picot Agreement between Britain and France pre-maturely divvied up the Ottoman Empire in the event of a collapse. Mandatory Palestine, as promised, would fall to the British. The nation quickly became a mangle of commitments to the Arab and Jewish community. The acquisition of Palestine was imperative to the introduction of a Jewish state, proximity to the burgeoning supply of Oil and the defence of India.     Banded leaf and sheath blight (BLSB) and maydis leaf blight (MLB) caused by Rhizoctonia solani and Bipolaris maydis, respectively are considered as important diseases in maize.   The use of biopesticides is an alternative method to control the diseases. This study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of bacterial formula Bacillus subtilis to inhibit the development of BLSB and MLB on the plant. Testing of biopesticide formula was done in two different applications, i.e. seed treatment for BLSB control and leaf spraying in the field for MLB. The results showed that the B.subtilis formula effectively suppressed the development of BLSB but it was not effectively suppressed the development of MLB .     Salah satu kendala dalam penyimpanan jagung adalah serangan hamagudang. Salah satu hama gudang jagung adalah Sitophilus zeamaisMotschulsky (Coleoptera: Curculionidae). Hama ini ditemukan didaerah panas maupun lembap. Hama ini bersifat polifag, dapatmerusak serealia seperti beras/gabah, jagung, gandum, dan sorgum,namun dilaporkan sebagai hama penting pada jagung. Kehilanganhasil jagung di wilayah tropis akibat S. zeamais berkisar antara 30-100%. Biji jagung yang disimpan selama 6 bulan menunjukkankerusakan 85% dan bobot biji menyusut 17%. Telur hama tersebutdiletakkan di dalam biji dan dalam beberapa hari akan menetasmenjadi larva. Larva menyelesaikan siklus hidupnya di dalam biji.Telur berwarna putih Bening, berbentuk lonjong, lunak dan licin,berukuran 0,7 mm x 0,3 mm. Larva berwarna putih kekuningan,tidak bertungkai, kepala berwarna cokelat, terdiri atas empat instar,panjang 1,5–4 mm. Periode larva berlangsung 25 hari. Imago S.zeamais berukuran 3-4,5 mm. Hama S. zeamais dapat dikendalikandengan cara: 1) menyimpan jagung dalam wadah maupun gudangsecara higienis, 2) menanam varietas tahan, 3) menggunakanmusuh alami yaitu parasit, predator, dan patogen, seperti parasitoidLariophagus distinguendus dan Anisopteromalus calandrae, sertapatogen Beauveria bassiana, 4) memanfaatkan insektisida nabatiyang memiliki toksisitas tinggi terhadap S. zeamais, yaitu Ageratumconnyzoides (bandotan), Andropogon nardus (serai), Allium sativum(bawang merah), Nicotiana tabacum (tembakau), Zingiber officinale(jahe), dan Azadirachta indica (mimba), serta 5) menyemprotkaninsektisida sintetis metil pirimifos
